Shouya walked to the bedside, took the blanket and covered her, gently brushing aside the hair from her forehead. He lightly caressed her cheek and kissed her smooth forehead before stepping out of the bedroom and into the living room, where he poured himself a small glass of whiskey and began to drink.
That night, he slept on the sofa in the living room, afraid that if he touched her body, his own body would react, making him uncomfortable enough to rush to the bathroom to relieve himself. Thinking of this made him chuckle.
As he expected, within two days, he had successfully bought off all the major shareholders of the Bai Family. He then instructed Rowe to acquire shares of the Bai Family from several minor shareholders.
All of this was done secretly behind the scenes. Bai Jingsong was completely unaware and kept trying to find out if there were any intentions to invest in the Bai Family.
Once there was an investment in the Bai Family, it would grow stronger, and all declining stocks would rise, gaining the trust of investors and attracting more companies to invest.
Shouya knew what this old fox was plotting and decided not to reveal his true intentions for now. However, he had already secretly taken control of all the shareholders of the Bai Family.
For this first move, Shouya felt very satisfied with how quickly and steadily it was executed. He never expected that a doctor who only knew how to operate on an operating table or sit in a laboratory could also stand in the business world and engage in covert battles. It was truly gratifying!
Shouya couldn't wait to share this good news with An Xinya. He said, "Xinya, do you know? I have successfully bought off several shareholders around the Bai Family and acquired shares from some minor shareholders. I believe that soon, the Bai Family will be back in your hands."
An Xinya blinked her eyes at Shouya with disbelief, showing a surprised expression as she smiled and asked, "Really? So I can get my father's company back soon?"
"Yes!" Shouya confirmed again as he looked at the happy Xinya.
"I can finally get my father's company back." An Xinya was overjoyed; she wanted to share this good news with her father who had passed away many years ago. Then, accompanied by Shouya, she went back to West Quiet Cemetery in Beijing. It wasn't raining that day, but the weather had turned somewhat chilly.
An Xinya stood before the grave, quietly looking at the photo on the tombstone. The man in the photo still smiled gently and elegantly. She softly spoke to her father, "Dad, I will soon get back Bai Group. If it weren't for Brother Shouya's help, I wouldn't have been able to do it alone."
After saying this, An Xinya glanced at Brother Shouya beside her, her eyes filled with genuine gratitude.
Shouya looked at her tenderly, smiled slightly without saying anything.
After paying respects to her father, An Xinya left West Quiet Cemetery with Shouya.
Sitting in the car, Shouya looked at Xinya, whose expression was dim but no longer filled with despair. He knew she had come to terms with things and was no longer trapped in a gray world.
Shouya reached out and held her hand, suddenly saying, "I'm taking you to a place."
"What place?" An Xin Ya snapped back to reality, turning her face to look at him, curious about where he intended to take her.
"To meet your biological mother." Rowe had already found out where Xinya's mother was buried; it turned out she was laid to rest on a hill in Garden Village, which was quite a distance from West Quiet Cemetery. It would take at least three or four hours to get to Garden Village, no wonder she had forgotten about this woman long ago.
According to the information, Xinya's biological mother was named Wang Meixin and lived in Garden Village, where she ran a flower shop. Her beauty and kindness deeply attracted Bai Jingyan. Bai Jingyan fell in love with her and frequently visited Wang Meixin's flower shop. Wang Meixin developed feelings for the refined Bai Jingyan, and soon they became involved, resulting in her pregnancy with An Xin Ya that same year. Unfortunately, due to her weak health, Wang Meixin died during childbirth when she was only twenty-three years old.
"What? Brother Shouya, you know where she's buried?" An Xin Ya's eyes widened in surprise as she looked at him. The person buried next to her father was his first wife, not her biological mother.
"She's buried on a hill in Garden Village," Shouya replied before starting the engine and driving toward Garden Village.
Although her biological mother died during childbirth, if it weren't for her, An Xin Ya wouldn't be in this world. Thinking of this made An Xin Ya's heart suddenly ache with an impulse to cry, but she fought to suppress it and held back her tears.
By the time they arrived at Garden Village, it was already late evening and dark outside. According to local residents, Wang Meixin's grave was on a hill that would take another half hour to climb, so they decided to visit it the next day.
They stayed at a small inn in Garden Village. Unlike hotels, this inn was simple and rustic, built from bamboo. The night was peaceful and cool.
An Xin Ya leaned against the window, gazing at the sky outside filled with twinkling stars; it was truly beautiful! In Las Vegas, one could hardly see such a stunning starry sky because in that bustling city, looking up meant seeing tall buildings and crowded apartments.
She never imagined her mother had lived in such a beautiful place as Garden Village. It was easy to see that her mother must have been a lovely, simple, and kind woman.
Just then, Shouya came out after taking a shower. Seeing An Xin Ya leaning by the window lost in thought, he walked over and sat beside her, softly asking, "What are you looking at?"
"I'm watching the stars," An Xin Ya replied with a sweet smile as she gazed at the beautiful night sky. "This place is like a paradise."
Shouya also looked out the window, where the stars were twinkling in the sky. However, he had no interest in counting stars with her, so he got up and lay down by the bed. He was exhausted after driving for nearly four hours and wanted to get a good night's sleep since he needed to search for Wang Meixin's grave on the mountain tomorrow!
An Xin Ya wanted to say something to him, but when she turned around and saw that he had already fallen asleep on the bed, she realized how tired he was. She got up and walked over to his side to cover him with a blanket.
That night, Xinya tossed and turned for an hour or two before finally falling asleep. She kept wondering what her biological mother looked like. To have caught the attention of the chairman of Bai Group, she must have been an extraordinary beauty.
Early the next morning, Shouya woke Xinya up for breakfast, and then they headed up the mountain to find Wang Meixin's grave. Following the directions given by the locals, they climbed up the mountain, encountering many farmers from Garden Village along the way. They carried large baskets filled with fruits they had picked and some herbs.
An Xin Ya was drenched in sweat and panting heavily. She sat down to rest for a while before continuing up the mountain, unable to believe that Wang Meixin's grave was located so high up. It was said to be a superstitious practice among the local residents.
After half an hour, they finally reached Wang Meixin's grave. An Xin Ya walked over briskly; there were no photos on the tombstone, which left her feeling somewhat disappointed. She had hoped to see a picture of her biological mother, but at least she could come to pay her respects.
An Xin Ya held a White Lily in her hand and placed it in front of the grave. She lit incense and burned paper offerings while quietly gazing at the inscription on the tombstone. No tears fell from her eyes; she had a thousand words she wanted to say to her mother but didn't know how to express them.
Standing silently beside her, Shouya burned paper offerings as well. He watched An Xin Ya's serious expression with concern, fearing that she might break down and cry. However, she did not cry; he knew she was hiding all her sorrow deep inside.
After all, hearing about both of her biological parents passing away suddenly was something no one could accept, especially not An Xin Ya!
Afterward, Shouya supported An Xin Ya as they walked down the mountain. By the time they returned to the inn, it was already noon. They quickly packed their things and left Garden Village, heading back to Beijing Millennium Hotel.
That day, Shouya received news that Bai Jingsong had invited him to attend a social banquet scheduled for the following evening at a large hotel in Beijing's Dongcheng District.
"Xinya, accompany me to a social banquet tomorrow," Shouya said as he walked into the bedroom that evening. He saw Xinya leaning against the bed reading a magazine and sat down beside her with a smile.
An Xin Ya looked up from her magazine with wide eyes and asked curiously, "You can go by yourself; why do you want me to accompany you?"
To be honest, An Xin Ya did not enjoy attending social banquets or parties because she was not fond of lively scenes. She found them overwhelming and often felt anxious and flustered.
"Because you can see Bai Jingsong, your so-called uncle," Shouya said as he took her hand.
An Xin Ya looked into Shouya's deep eyes; no matter what, he was her father's brother, which made him her uncle. She nodded in agreement to Brother Shouya, promising to accompany him to the banquet.
A luxury hotel in Beijing
A Black Rolls-Royce smoothly stopped outside the hotel entrance. The car door opened, and Shouya stepped out, dressed in a black suit that accentuated his tall and handsome figure.
He walked around to open the door, and An Xin Ya emerged, wearing a white strapless gown that highlighted her snow-white skin, looking beautiful and graceful!
An Xin Ya raised her eyes to admire the magnificent and brilliantly lit hotel, linking her arm with Shouya's as they entered.
The banquet was set in the lobby on the first floor. Shouya and Xinya walked in together, observing the men and women at the banquet holding glasses, laughing and chatting softly.
The milky white marble was as smooth as a mirror, with rows of red satin-covered tables neatly arranged with various delicious dishes. The round wooden tables draped in white tablecloths were piled high with different types of champagne and fine wines.
Waiters built several stunning crystal towers using transparent wine glasses, with golden liquid slowly flowing from a glass bottle perched atop the tower. The overflowing champagne cascaded down the sides of the glasses, sparkling like starlight under the dazzling crystal chandeliers, resembling a dreamlike fountain shimmering with colorful lights.
Soft melodies floated through the crowd, quietly flowing. Everyone appeared elegant, gentle, and humble, but inwardly they all had their own hidden agendas.
Bai Jingsong, who was greeting guests, spotted Shouya and broke into a wide smile as he hurried over. "Mr. Shou, it's truly an honor to see you again!" he said cheerfully.
