Bai Jingsong saw the woman beside Shouya, her long black hair cascading down like a waterfall, elegant eyebrows, large watery eyes, a straight nose, and charming cherry lips—truly a stunning beauty! Her skin was as white as snow, and she wore a white spaghetti strap gown. Under the crystal chandelier's light, her skin appeared exceptionally translucent.
Yet, there was something about her features that reminded him of someone, though he couldn't quite recall who.
"This must be Mr. Shouya's wife!"
"Yes," Shouya replied with a half-smile as he glanced at Bai Jingsong. He could never have imagined that the girl standing before him was his brother's illegitimate daughter, Bai Xinhui—the very infant he had sent to the orphanage.
"Hello, beautiful madam!" Bai Jingsong said with a flattering smile that revealed uneven yellow teeth, gazing at the sweet and innocent woman.
"Hello, Mr. Bai!" An Xin Ya replied awkwardly, looking at her uncle. His demeanor made her feel somewhat nauseous; she couldn't fathom how her refined father could have such a distasteful brother.
"Mr. Shouya, Mrs. Shouya, please make yourselves comfortable!" Bai Jingsong said, eyeing Shouya, a prominent figure. Given that the Bai Family was currently struggling, he wanted to seize this opportunity to persuade Shouya to turn his acquisition of the Bai Family into an investment instead. This way, the Bai Family could grow stronger and money would flow into his pockets.
An Xin Ya accompanied Shouya as he met several business figures and some shareholders of the Bai Family. Shouya communicated with these shareholders through glances, conveying his intentions silently. The shareholders nodded in understanding and raised their glasses to lightly sip in return.
"Brother Shouya, I’d like to sit down for a bit," An Xin Ya said, feeling a bit sore in her feet from wearing high heels all night while standing and toasting with them.
"Alright, I'll help you to a seat over there," Shouya replied as he assisted An Xin Ya to a quieter area where they could sit down.
At that moment, Bai Jingsong suddenly approached and pulled Shouya aside with a cunning smile. "Mr. Shouya, I know you're eager to acquire our Bai Family. However, I hope you will consider investing in the Bai Family instead. This way, everyone profits, right? If you agree to invest in the Bai Family, I am willing to give you five percent of my shares."
Mokani was a well-known large corporation, and Shouya was very wealthy; how could Bai Jingsong easily let this opportunity slip away? If they were acquired by Mokani, he would have to declare bankruptcy and lose everything.
Shouya looked at Bai Jingsong expressionlessly while internally sneering. He knew what this old fox was up to and understood his calculations; however, he had already bought out several major shareholders of the Bai Family and even acquired shares from some minor shareholders around them. Now he stood alone.
With an ambiguous smile in his eyes, Shouya regarded this old fox. Since he was so eager, he decided to play along and said, "Allow me a few days to consider; I will provide you with a satisfactory answer."
Hearing Shouya say this, Bai Jingsong couldn't help but smile broadly, rubbing his hands together as he said, "Then I will wait for Mr. Shou's reply. If possible, I hope we can have a pleasant cooperation!"
"Of course!" Shouya replied with a strange smile, thinking that by the time it came to cooperation, they wouldn't even have the chance to enjoy it.
An Xin Ya sat quietly, watching Brother Shouya and Bai Jingsong discussing something and laughing happily.
"Oh right, do you need anything to eat? I can have someone bring it over," Bai Jingsong suddenly changed the subject when he noticed Shouya's wife sitting alone. He thought to himself that he hadn't expected his wife to be so beautiful; she seemed familiar, as if he had seen her somewhere before, but his memory was too vague for him to recall.
"No need!" Shouya replied curtly and walked straight over to Xinya, sitting down beside her.
Bai Jingsong received his answer; although it wasn't a definitive one, he believed success was certain. He smiled at them and then left to greet other guests with his wine glass, engaging in conversation.
An Xin Ya looked at Shouya with confusion and couldn't help but ask, "What were you talking about?"
"He wants me to invest in the Bai Family, and in return, he's willing to give me five percent of his shares," Shouya thought it was utterly ridiculous; how could he possibly cooperate with such a shameless person?
"So what did you say to him?" An Xin Ya asked with wide eyes, unable to believe that the Bai Family had been nearly ruined by him yet he still wouldn't let go.
"I just said I would think about it..." Shouya replied.
"You agreed to him! Brother Shouya, how could you do this? You promised me you would help me get my father's company back," An Xin Ya said nervously, grabbing his arm with a furrowed brow and an expression of confusion.
Shouya patted her hand reassuringly and said, "I'm just going along with him to give him a taste of success. Once the time is right, the Bai Family will return to you, and he will end up losing everything."
Hearing this from Shouya, An Xin Ya finally relaxed but still didn't understand why he was doing this. With Mokani's power, reclaiming the Bai Family should be an easy task; why complicate things like this?
No matter what, An Xin Ya respected Brother Shouya's intentions. Since he acted this way, there must be a reason behind it. He had promised her that he would retrieve her father's company.
At that moment, Bai Jingsong approached them, followed by a Female Secretary who was holding something in her hands. She came over, nodding and smiling at them, flattering them as she said, "Mr. Shou, Mrs. Shou, I have a gift for you. I hope you will accept it!"
After saying this, Bai Jingsong turned around and took the exquisite box from the Female Secretary's hands. Upon opening it, they found a piece of jade. Shouya looked at the jade under the light; its texture was delicate and pure, with a bright and rich uniform green color. It was indeed high-quality jade worth hundreds of thousands.
Shouya remained calm, knowing what Bai Jingsong meant by this gesture. Earlier, he had offered to give him five percent of his shares, and now he was presenting jade as well, constantly trying to curry favor with him. It was clear that he was eager for him to invest in the Bai Family.
An Xin Ya gazed at the beautiful jade with sparkling eyes but hesitated to take it out for a closer look. She glanced at Bai Jingsong's scheming smile and couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Bai, what do you mean by this? Why are you giving us such an expensive piece of jade?"
"Mrs. Shou, this is a token of our first meeting. I hope you will accept it," Bai Jingsong replied with a bow and a smile, looking at Shouya to gauge his reaction.
"This is too valuable; we cannot accept it," An Xin Ya said, looking at his smirk with distaste. She didn't like him at all; for some reason, she felt an innate aversion towards him—perhaps because he exuded an air of insincerity.
"This..." The smile on Bai Jingsong's face faded as he became somewhat awkward. He looked towards the silent Shouya.
"My wife has said so; just take it back!" Shouya finally spoke up. Although he claimed it was a token of their first meeting, it was actually a bribe hoping he would quickly agree to invest in the Bai Family. There was no way he would comply so easily; he intended to make him wait a few days.
Bai Jingsong's expression stiffened momentarily but then turned to his secretary standing behind him and gave her a knowing glance before putting on a flattering smile again. He then said some more complimentary words to Shouya and An Xin Ya before leaving.
They left the banquet hall at nine o'clock in the evening, with Bai Jingsong personally escorting them out of the hotel. Shouya and An Xin Ya got into their car and left the grand hotel.
As the car started moving, An Xin Ya saw through the rearview mirror that Bai Jingsong's smiling face suddenly turned gloomy, shifting like clouds—one moment flattering them in front of others and the next revealing his sinister nature behind their backs.
This was her father's biological brother, her so-called uncle—the same man who bribed lawyers to secretly alter her father's will and sent her to an orphanage. She did not harbor hatred for this man; she only felt pity for her father having such a brother.
An Xin Ya felt a sense of sadness in her heart as she rested her head on Brother Shouya's shoulder, not saying a word.
Shouya held her hand and silently promised himself that he would reclaim her father's company, but now was not the right time; he needed to wait for the opportune moment to take back the Bai Family.
Privately, Shouya had already sent Rowe to find the servants and nursemaid who had served Bai Jingyan and his wife, as well as Bai Huixin. Just two days later, Rowe called.
"I have found them!" Rowe's voice came through the phone.
A faint smile appeared on Shouya's lips as he held the phone, his deep eyes becoming sharper. He said, "Good. Keep a close watch on them; I will be there shortly."
At that moment, An Xin Ya walked out of the bedroom and saw him putting on his suit jacket, looking like he was about to go out. She remembered hearing him say he was going out earlier and curiously asked, "Brother Shouya, where are you going?"
After fastening his jacket, Shouya approached her with a gentle smile and said, "I have some matters to attend to but will be back soon. If you get hungry, you can eat something at the restaurant downstairs in the hotel."
An Xin Ya chose not to press further about what he was going to do or where he was headed; if he didn't say anything, she wouldn't ask.
Shouya placed his hands on her shoulders, his gaze softening. He gently pecked her cheek before walking out of the room, striding into the elevator and heading down to the first floor. He quickly exited the hotel where his car was already parked at the entrance. After getting into the driver's seat and starting the engine, he drove towards Chaoyang District.
In a dark basement in Chaoyang District, two middle-aged women huddled together on the ground, trembling with fear as they looked up at the man who had brought them there. He was tall and imposing, with a fierce and intimidating face.
"Behave yourselves, or I won't be nice to you!" The man clenched his fists, the sound of cracking bones echoing in the air.
