Summer has passed, autumn has arrived, and soon winter is here! The plump An Xin Ya, dressed in loose maternity clothes, sits on the sofa in the living room, watching her grandmother busying herself every day to take care of her. Shouya, in order to support the family and for the child about to be born, manages to find time each month to accompany her for prenatal check-ups. He is busy with work almost every day but always returns home in the evening to see her.
That night, Grandma An went back to her room to rest. Shouya carefully helped An Xin Ya back to their room, assisting her to sit on the bed. With her large belly, her movements were quite inconvenient. He squatted in front of her, gently stroking her belly and placing his ear against it, quietly listening to the sounds from within. A smile appeared on his face as he spoke to the baby inside, "Baby, my little treasure, Daddy is talking to you. Can you hear me?"
Seeing Brother Shouya's adorable demeanor made An Xin Ya chuckle and say, "Honey, you're so funny! How could he hear you?"
"How could he not hear?!" Shouya replied as he sat beside her, gently wrapping his arm around her shoulder and looking at his wife with a tender smile.
Xinya leaned against his shoulder, caressing her belly as she said, "Time flies! In the blink of an eye, it's already winter. My belly has grown so big in such a short time. In two months, I will give birth. Just thinking about it makes me a bit scared!"
"What are you afraid of? I'm right here by your side; I will always be with you," Shouya said as he took her hand and looked at her affectionately. He understood her anxiety; it was something every pregnant woman experiences. He was there every day to encourage and support her!
"Mm!" Xinya softly responded. With Brother Shouya by her side, that sense of panic faded away.
At the hospital, An Xin Ya had just finished an ultrasound while Shouya accompanied her, listening as the doctor explained the ultrasound images—showing the baby's head, little hands, legs, and feet… Hearing this made Xinya incredibly excited! They were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their child.
A little over a month later, An Xin Ya was admitted to the hospital early for delivery. Grandma would come by whenever she had time to visit her. Xinya worried about Grandma and asked her not to come to the hospital too often, but Grandma wouldn't listen. Occasionally she would bring soup for Xinya, and sometimes Shouya would accompany Grandma when visiting.
As she thought about how close they were to welcoming their child, her emotions grew more excited yet more nervous each day…
Just two days before she was due to give birth, Shouya canceled all his work commitments and stayed by Xinya's side continuously, even choosing to spend nights at the hospital. One evening around seven or eight o'clock, Shouya had just returned from outside with a pot of hot water when he saw Xinya collapsed on the floor, clutching her belly tightly: "It hurts so much… Honey, it hurts!"
Shouya rushed over with wide eyes filled with panic upon seeing water flowing from beneath her skirt; he realized she was going into labor. He quickly got up and shouted for a doctor and nurses outside the room.
Soon after, doctors and nurses rushed in. Shouya held Xinya as she lay on the bed while she was wheeled out of the room by medical staff. "Ah… ah… it hurts so much! Brother Shouya…" Xinya cried out in pain as beads of sweat formed on her forehead.
"Xinya, I'm here; don't be afraid…" Shouya tightly held Xinya's hand and comforted her.
Xinya was then pushed into the operating room by the doctor and nurses, while Shouya paced anxiously outside, thinking about how Xinya was about to give birth and how he was soon to become a father. His heart was filled with both excitement and nervousness.
"Ah..." Xinya cried out in pain, her face pale, her hair soaked with sweat, her hands gripping the sides of the bed tightly, her legs spread apart...
"Don't be nervous, take it slow, breathe deeply, breathe again..." The nurse beside Xinya instructed her. She listened to the doctor's words, breathing in and out, but the pain was still overwhelming, as if every nerve in her body was taut and ready to burst.
"Push harder, keep going, you can do it..." the doctor encouraged Xinya.
"Doctor, the baby's neck is wrapped in the umbilical cord," one of the nurses said.
Due to the baby’s neck being entangled in the umbilical cord, a natural birth was impossible; a cesarean section was necessary to deliver the baby. With a glance exchanged among them, everyone began to prepare.
Meanwhile, Shouya continued to pace outside the operating room, worried about Xinya. Just then, a nurse came out, and he hurriedly approached her, asking, "How is my wife doing?"
"The baby is wrapped in the umbilical cord around its neck. A cesarean section is needed to deliver the baby; otherwise, there is a risk to the baby's life," the nurse informed him before quickly rushing off to prepare some things.
Shouya stood there in shock, his mind racing with confusion. How could this happen? Hadn't everything been fine during the previous check-ups? He prayed fervently for both Xinya and the baby to be safe.
As time ticked by slowly, Shouya anxiously walked back and forth until he finally heard the sound of a baby's loud cry coming from inside the operating room. At that moment, the weight on his chest began to lift.
The lights in the operating room turned off, and a nurse came out holding a baby. She walked up to Shouya with a smile and said, "Congratulations! It's a girl!"
Shouya took the child from the nurse's arms and looked at his newborn daughter with overwhelming excitement. At that moment, medical staff wheeled Xinya out; she had undergone a cesarean section and was still under anesthesia, needing time to wake up once it wore off.
The nurse took the baby from Shouya's hands and looked at An Xin Ya with furrowed brows. Seeing that she was okay brought immense relief.
"Baby... baby..." After coming out of anesthesia, An Xin Ya slowly opened her eyes. The first thing she wanted was to see her child. During her time in the operating room, she had painfully heard that her baby could not be born naturally due to being wrapped in the umbilical cord and needed a cesarean section. After that point, she had been unaware of anything else.
Shouya, who had been by her side all along, heard her faint call and tightly held her hand, saying, "Xinya, you’re awake!"
"Honey, where is our child?!" An Xin Ya, pale-faced, looked at Shouya and asked.
"Our child is safe. She’s in the nursery right now. I’ll call the nurse to bring her over for you to see..." Shouya got up to find a nurse. Soon after, a nurse entered holding their daughter. Shouya took their daughter from the nurse and brought her in front of Xinya, smiling as he said, "Our daughter..."
An Xin Ya looked at their daughter. She wanted to get up and hold her, but as she moved slightly, pain shot through her abdomen. Shouya pressed her down gently, reminding her that she had just undergone a cesarean section and told her not to move around. Xinya had no choice but to lie back and watch her daughter, her eyes filled with joy and emotion as she reached out to gently touch the chubby little face and held her tiny hand, smiling as she said, "Our daughter is so cute!"
After a short while, the nurse took their daughter away. Xinya watched reluctantly as the nurse walked away with her.
Shouya sat beside her, holding her hand tightly and sincerely said, "Xinya, you’ve worked hard!" He then reached out to gently stroke her face and tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.
An Xin Ya didn’t say anything; as long as their daughter was safely brought into this world, it was the most touching and happiest thing for her. Just like Grandma said, no matter how painful it was, seeing the child born made all the pain seem insignificant because all that remained was emotion and excitement.
Grandma An received a call from Shouya in the middle of the night saying that Xinya had given birth to a daughter. Without hesitation, she rushed to the hospital to visit Xinya in her room.
"Grandma..." Xinya's eyes filled with tears upon seeing her grandmother.
Seeing her granddaughter cry, Grandma An hurried over to give her a hug and gently wiped away the tears on her face, saying, "My Xinya, you’ve worked hard!"
Xinya didn’t know what to say; her feelings were beyond words. The birth of her daughter filled her with overwhelming excitement. She wished she could always be by her side, but now she felt unwell and could only temporarily be apart from her child.
Later, Shouya took Grandma An to the nursery. When Grandma saw her lovely and beautiful great-granddaughter, she couldn’t stop smiling. This child combined the best traits of both parents; she believed that when she grew up, she would definitely be a beauty.
Xinya stayed in the hospital for a few days; the pain in her abdomen lessened. The nurse brought their daughter over for feeding.
Watching her daughter nurse was incredibly adorable! The little one resembled her in some features while taking after Brother Shouya in others... A happy smile spread across Xinya's face as maternal love filled her heart.
After leaving the base, Shouya immediately went to the hospital to visit his wife and daughter.
Grandma An made delicious soup every day to bring to Xinya in the hospital. She happily held her great-granddaughter, reluctant to let go, occasionally talking to her. Seeing her grandmother so happy made Xinya very happy as well.
Shouya felt the same way, holding her tightly until their daughter fell asleep, then gently placing her in the crib, almost entirely focused on his daughter.
Upon learning that Xinya had given birth to a girl, Wushuang, Lefas, Faisal, and Yezi all came to the hospital to congratulate them. Wushuang saw her beautiful and adorable niece and wanted to arrange a marriage between her son and Xinya's daughter. Xinya laughed at her, saying that it should happen naturally; when their daughter grows up, she might not even be the type that her son likes!
A few days later, Xinya was finally able to be discharged from the hospital. Shouya personally came to pick her and their daughter up. Grandma originally wanted to come along, but Shouya insisted she stay home and rest while he went to get them.
Winter had just passed, and spring had arrived; everything was coming back to life, bringing new beginnings for the new year!
As soon as they arrived home and parked in the yard, Grandma couldn't wait to rush out of the house to help carry things. Seeing Xinya holding her sleeping great-granddaughter filled her heart with joy!
Entering the house, Xinya carried her sleeping daughter back to the room and gently placed her in the prepared crib, quietly watching as her daughter slept peacefully, sucking on her little fingers.
Shouya brought in all their belongings and set them on the sofa before walking over. Seeing his daughter's chubby face, he couldn't help but reach out and pinch it lightly. "My little treasure, Daddy loves you!"
"She just fell asleep; don't wake her!" An Xin Ya pulled him back with a pout.
"I know, my dear wife!" Shouya said with a smile as he wrapped his arms around her.
