"How did you get here?"
Wang Zhan looked at Marin with some surprise.
Marin smiled as she walked in, "I heard you had an accident, so I came to check on you."
She placed the thermos on the table, "I made porridge myself; you should try it."
Wang Zhan glanced at the thermos on the table and then at Marin, "You came late; I just had porridge."
Marin's smile froze on her face.
"But..."
Wang Zhan changed his tone, "You can heat it up for dinner; that way, you won't have to cook again."
Marin immediately brightened up, "Okay, I'll bring you dinner later."
Wang Zhan nodded.
Marin sat beside Wang Zhan chatting with him. Worried she might be cold, he even took a blanket and draped it over her legs.
I lay on the table nearby, watching the two of them laugh and talk, feeling a mix of emotions inside.
I didn't know when I dozed off.
After Wang Zhan was discharged from the hospital, he still needed someone to take care of him.
He had been in an accident and was unable to move around easily, so he could only stay at home.
Fearing that his mother might be overwhelmed, I planned to go over and help out.
As soon as I entered the door, I ran into Marin wrapped in just a bath towel.
She had just taken a shower; her hair was damp, and her bare white shoulders looked like a lotus flower emerging from the water.
We stared at each other in shock.
She seemed startled and then hurriedly hid behind Wang Zhan.
The door to the master bedroom was open.
An ambiguous atmosphere lingered inside.
Marin appeared flustered.
I feel like the one who is in a difficult position.
I took out my phone and handed it to Wang Zhan:
"Auntie couldn't reach you just now, so she called me."
Wang Zhan paused for a moment, took the phone, and walked aside to answer the call.
He didn't notice my feelings at all.
Of course.
We don't have any relationship, so why should he consider my feelings?
A wave of nausea rose in my heart.
Marin has been going to Wang Zhan's house almost every day this past month.
Sometimes she even greets me.
I thought this was an exception that belonged only to me.
I never expected that this exception would be broken now.
Everyone can enter his home.
Only I cannot.
I even once thought that I was the most special person.
How ridiculous.
I couldn't help but smile faintly.
Marin stood behind Wang Zhan, showing a shy expression:
"Jiang Wan, I hope you won't tell Auntie about what happened just now."
"We were just impulsive."
I smiled lightly: "Okay."
I nodded and turned to leave.
Fortunately, she didn't stay here overnight.
Back home, I sat in the dimly lit room, feeling completely drained.
I didn't want to imagine what had happened between the two of them.
But those images kept invading my mind.
I felt so sad that I wanted to cry.
But not a single tear would come out.
I looked down at my hands, which had turned purple from my grip.
It turned out my feelings for Wang Zhan had run this deep.
So deep that I could no longer bear it.
I had to let him go.
Leaving this city seemed to be the best choice.
There was no possibility left between me and Wang Zhan.
His mother hoped he would be with Marin.
He didn't refuse her.
I had completely lost my chance.
I told my best friend Yuan Yuan about this.
After hearing it, Yuan Yuan slammed the table in anger:
"What? Wang Zhan is actually that kind of person?"
"Marin isn't a good person either!"
"How could she take advantage of someone else's misfortune!"
I smiled lightly, "It's fine; anyway, there's no chance for me and Wang Zhan."
"I'm planning to let him go."
Yuan Yuan sighed:
"Since that's the case, let me introduce you to my cousin."
"Once you meet my cousin, you'll definitely forget Wang Zhan completely."
"Okay."
I casually replied.
