Aunt Chen couldn't help but wonder what was going on with Young Madam Qin today, as it was already so late and she still hadn't gotten up.
Could it be that she didn't come home last night?
That couldn't be, as she clearly heard the sound of the door opening and closing while she was half-asleep.
While pondering this, Aunt Chen slowly climbed up to the second floor.
When Aunt Chen knocked on the door, Qin Xian had just finished showering, standing by the bed with a dry towel, rubbing his damp short hair.
He leisurely walked to the door, pulled the handle, and opened it. Seeing Aunt Chen there, he asked in confusion, "What's wrong?"
"Young Master, you're up. I thought you weren't home," Aunt Chen said at the door, concerned. "Lunch is ready. Are you coming down to eat?"
Qin Xian replied lightly, "Maybe later."
Aunt Chen had been with the Qin Family since Qin Xian's parents got married and had watched him grow up. With her own children back in her hometown, she had long regarded Qin Xian as her own son to care for and look after.
Having seen him grow up, she understood his habits well; she knew he was picky about food and didn't like to eat much—Old Qin couldn't do anything about it either.
It was only after Young Mistress married into the family that things improved a bit; he reluctantly started eating more. Aunt Chen noticed all of this and felt a sense of comfort in her heart.
Seeing Qin Xian's indifferent expression as he casually mentioned eating later, Aunt Chen knew he would probably skip it again.
Thinking this, she smiled warmly and added, "Yesterday, Young Mistress made dumplings with me and said she wanted to wait for you to come back to eat together. Since both of you came home late last night, I figured you might miss out, so I cooked some for you and left them downstairs. Remember to eat them while they're hot."
Sure enough, Qin Xian's eyes brightened slightly as he turned to glance at the person on the bed who was lazily sleeping with their eyes closed. His expression paused for a moment before he finally turned back to Aunt Chen and replied, "Okay."
On this side, Aunt Chen finally received a positive response, so she happily went downstairs, no longer concerned about the young ones' schedule.
Tonight, she would return to her hometown for the New Year. She wondered if leaving them alone at home would allow the Young Mistress to take good care of the young master.
Well, there was no need to think too much; after all, the young master had grown up and gotten married, so he could take care of himself. He wouldn't starve himself.
With that thought, she relaxed and began packing her bags to prepare for the New Year.
...
After Aunt Chen went downstairs, Qin Xian closed the door. Turning around, he saw Shu Ran still sleeping on the bed. She looked utterly exhausted, with no energy left in her body, curled up lazily like a fragile little white rabbit.
Seeing her like this inexplicably ignited Qin Xian's desires.
He thought to himself that he was doomed; after years of avoiding women, all his resolve crumbled in her presence.
It was all fake.
The moment he saw her, he turned into an animal that could only think with his lower half.
Ah, this was truly troublesome.
Qin Xian struggled to control himself and avoid looking at her. Last night, he had exhausted her three times, each time intense and prolonged.
Today, although his desires burned hotly, he dared not touch her again.
After a lingering kiss, he applied medicine to her while she was asleep, realizing how excessive and rough he had been the night before. A sense of guilt and affection welled up in his heart.
He bent down, carefully gazing at her delicate oval face, the curled lashes, the cherry-red lips, and the smooth skin inch by inch. With a slight curve at the corners of his mouth, he gently placed a kiss on her forehead.
...
When Shu Ran woke up, the sky was already dimming, and it was nearly dusk.
Many people feel an inexplicable sense of loneliness when they wake up at dusk, as if they are the only one left in the entire world. A vague sense of loss washes over them.
It wasn't being overly sentimental or grumpy; it was just that looking at the gradually darkening sky brought a moment of confusion.
She sat on the bed, staring blankly, unsure of where Qin Xian had gone. The pain beneath her felt less intense for some reason; she guessed it was probably because she had slept for a while.
After sitting for a long time, she slowly got up from the bed and tiptoed barefoot to the door.
At home, she rarely wore shoes. Shu Mother had mentioned more than once that this could lead to dampness and colds.
But after all these years, her bad habit hadn't changed at all; she felt that wearing shoes was too constricting and preferred being barefoot for comfort.
She opened the door and quietly made her way downstairs, step by step, towards the light and sounds below.
Qin Xian was sitting on the sofa in the living room, with a laptop on the table in front of him displaying several documents. On the left side, a voice call was ongoing as he spoke softly and quickly, seemingly giving orders.
Shu Ran realized he was indeed very busy; even during his time off at home, he often dealt with work matters—either reviewing documents or attending meetings.
The second floor also has a study, but he doesn't like to go there much.
Most of the time, he is in the living room or his room.
She had just taken a step down the stairs when his gaze, which had been focused on the computer, instantly shifted upward, landing just on her bare little feet.
He unconsciously frowned and said displeased, “Shu Ran, come here.”
Shu Ran tiptoed down, intending to scare him. However, as soon as she stepped down the stairs, he noticed her. Pouting, she slowly climbed down.
Just as she reached the sofa, he stretched out his long arm and pulled her directly into his embrace. His warm palm wrapped around her delicate ankle, and a chill instantly surged through her.
Qin Xian's expression darkened slightly, his voice carrying a hint of anger. “Why aren't you wearing shoes? Your health is just getting better; what will you do if you catch a cold later?”
Shu Ran playfully blinked at him and said, “I’ll be fine! I’m not that fragile; you don’t need to worry.”
Though she said that, his large hand still gently covered her ankle, rubbing it lightly to warm her up. Shu Ran felt a bit ticklish and instinctively wanted to pull away, but was met with his serious reprimand, “Don’t move.”
Seeing his worried expression warmed her heart inexplicably, so she obediently let him be.
The computer screen was still on, but the voice chat had been turned off at some point. He held her and asked, “Did you just wake up?”
“Yeah, I came down because I couldn't find you.”
