Shu Ran was held in his arms, hearing his slightly deep and hoarse voice whispering in her ear, "Does it still hurt?"
Suddenly, Shu Ran's face turned bright red, and she lowered her head, shyly biting her lip without answering.
"Mm?" Qin Xian lifted her chin, his deep-set eyes looking at her seriously as he persistently asked.
Although they had been honest with each other, his straightforward question made Shu Ran feel bashful and embarrassed.
Her face burned like a tomato, and her response was almost a whisper as she buried her head in his chest and shyly said, "It doesn't hurt anymore."
To avoid further questioning from him, she quickly changed the subject and asked, "Where is Aunt Chen?"
Since she woke up, the house had been empty, with no one around.
Usually at this time, Aunt Chen would be busy in the kitchen, or the servants would be coming and going to clean. Today was strange; there wasn't a single person around, let alone any sounds of movement. It felt as if the entire villa was quiet except for the two of them.
"Aunt Chen went back home for the New Year. I also gave the other servants time off," Qin Xian said slowly, his hand caressing her delicate and smooth face, his gaze profound. "Until the sixth day of the New Year, it will just be the two of us at home."
Upon hearing this news, Shu Ran felt a mix of emotions.
The joy was that there were only the two of them in this house.
Without the gaze of servants around, it was a pure world for just the two of them.
The worry was that there were only the two of them in this house.
An inexplicable sense of anticipation mixed with nervousness filled the air, as if some hidden madness was at play.
Shu Ran, when her thoughts were unsettled, had a habit of biting her lips. Unconsciously, at this moment, her crimson lips, lightly grazed by her teeth, had lost their color.
"Let go." A pair of large hands suddenly grasped her chin, forcing her to release her red lips. Shu Ran slowly opened her eyes and collided with his displeased gaze. He seemed to dislike her habit of biting her lips; every time he saw it, he would coldly stop her.
Yet she always told herself that she would change next time, but she never did; it remained the same as ever.
Shu Ran smiled apologetically at him, secretly determined to break this bad habit this time.
Qin Xian's fingertips brushed against the lips she had just bitten, gently touching the faint teeth marks on the surface. He looked into her dazed eyes and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Shu Ran turned her gaze back to reality and shook her head. "Nothing."
"Aunt Chen won't be back until the sixth day. So what are we having for dinner?" Shu Ran tilted her head and asked.
Without lifting his head, Qin Xian continued to look at his documents and casually replied, "Whatever."
Usually, their meals were decided by Aunt Chen, consisting of a standard four dishes and a soup. Whatever Aunt Chen prepared was what they ate, and Shu Ran had long gotten used to this way of life since moving into the Qin Family.
Now that Aunt Chen had suddenly gone back to her hometown, it left them with the question of what to eat.
Shu Ran hadn't cooked in nearly two months; it was an understatement to say her skills hadn't dulled. Moreover, being suddenly tasked with preparing dinner meant she would probably have to work until nine o'clock before they could eat.
She really didn't want to go out for dinner today; it was just too much trouble.
Shu Ran thought for a moment, nestled in his arms while looking at the cold, gloomy sky outside the bay window, and suddenly an idea popped into her mind.
"How about we have hot pot?"
It wouldn't take long to prepare, and they wouldn't have to go out. Just the thought of finishing a steaming hot meal felt so comforting.
Moreover, she hadn't had hot pot in almost a year. Every winter, the Shu Family would have various lamb and beef hot pots, gathering together as a family to enjoy the warmth and excitement of eating meat together.
During her school days, her dorm mates would secretly pull out a hidden electric stove and buy a bunch of fresh meat and vegetables, carefully enjoying hot pot in their dorm room.
The entire memory was warm, resisting all the cold winds of winter.
Shu Ran had a deep affection for hot pot.
She truly loved it; if given the chance, she could eat hot pot every day in December without getting tired of it.
Thinking of those wonderful memories made her desire for hot pot stir again. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she repeated, "Let's have hot pot. I want to eat hot pot."
Qin Xian wasn't particularly interested in food. If she just wanted to eat, he would satisfy her. Moreover, since she was so eager about it, he wouldn't refuse.
He nodded in agreement. "Okay."
Shu Ran was very happy as she struggled to break free from his embrace, her voice filled with joy. "You wait here for me. I'll go check if there are any hot pot ingredients in the fridge. If not, we can go to the supermarket, okay?"
"Okay." Qin Xian watched her small, energetic figure and couldn't help but smile. He would agree to any request she made.
With his affirmative response, Shu Ran felt cheerful and bounced into the kitchen. After about ten minutes, her little figure peeked out from the kitchen, happily saying to him, "We don't need to go out to buy anything. Aunt Chen has put a lot of things in the fridge—there's beef and lamb, and even hot pot base!"
When she was happy, her smile was radiant, and her clear, bright eyes sparkled like stars. It inexplicably touched a chord deep within Qin Xian's heart.
He remembered the first time he saw her; it was when she fell in love at first sight, and she smiled just like that.
She was stunningly beautiful.
After all this time since their reunion, he had never seen her smile like that again until today.
One smile could captivate a city; another could captivate a nation.
She stood at the doorway, gazing at him with a cheerful smile, her clear eyes only reflecting him. She playfully asked him, who seemed lost in thought, "What are you daydreaming about?"
Qin Xian did not respond; he just looked at her, his deep gaze lingering for a long time, overlapping with the image in his memory.
Seeing that he still didn't respond and was merely staring at her, Shu Ran smiled gently and said, "You can keep busy; I'll go prepare everything. It will be ready soon."
