A few days later, I went to inspect my family's restaurant as usual, only to find that the shop across the street had somehow transformed into Zhao Lingfeng's establishment. The manager was none other than Manager Qian, who had previously left my side.
Today marked the grand opening of Zhao Lingfeng's restaurant, and guests were flocking in continuously. In contrast, my restaurant appeared quite desolate. Just as I was about to turn and leave, Manager Qian spotted me and proudly invited me to Zhao Lingfeng's private room. I raised an eyebrow and gladly accepted the invitation.
Zhao Lingfeng was drinking when he heard footsteps; he slowly turned his head, a complex expression flashing through his drunken eyes. "You’re here," he said.
I remained silent and took a seat opposite him. "Come, have a drink with me," Zhao Lingfeng raised his glass, his tone carrying an undeniable insistence. He had drunk quite a bit, and his face was flushed.
I shook my head lightly and replied, "I can't drink."
Zhao Lingfeng smiled with a hint of pride. "Wei Yang, do you know? Marrying the Prime Minister's daughter is a reluctant choice. I need the Prime Minister's support to inherit the throne."
"Don't blame me, Wei Yang; after all, you are of merchant status. My father would never allow a merchant girl to become the future queen."
His words revealed a sense of fatigue and helplessness. I listened quietly, but my heart remained unmoved. "Your Highness speaks too heavily; I am merely a merchant girl and dare not presume to discuss royal matters," I responded coolly, with a hint of distance in my tone.
"Rest assured, once I stabilize my position, I will depose the Prime Minister's daughter and make you queen," Zhao Lingfeng declared as he unsteadily stood up, attempting to embrace me.
I frowned slightly and deftly evaded his approach. He stumbled forward and nearly fell to the ground.
I said coldly, "Your Highness, please conduct yourself properly."
Zhao Lingfeng's expression darkened. "Hua Weiyang, are you still sulking? Do you know that allowing you here today is already showing you enough favor?"
"Don't think that just because you have War King Manor as your backing you can rest easy. Let me tell you, even if you are the Daughter of the War King, so what? A woman in business is simply disgraceful and unpresentable!"
"If you admit your mistake now, I might still take you into the Crown Prince's residence; if not, don't blame me for being heartless!"
I chuckled lightly. "Your Highness, do you wish to marry the Daughter of the War King?"
Zhao Lingfeng scoffed, "Hmph, marrying her is just a temporary measure. Once I inherit the throne, the first thing I'll do is dispose of her!"
I nodded, "Your Highness, if I were to be mistaken, would you marry me?"
Zhao Lingfeng smiled, "If you are mistaken, I will naturally grant you the title of Consort, as long as you obey. In the future, I might even let you manage the harem."
"However..."
Zhao Lingfeng's gaze wandered over me, a lewd smile appearing on his face.
"However, you cannot reveal your identity yet. I have prepared a concubine's quarters for you outside. Just endure for now, and when the time comes..."
As he spoke, he lunged towards me again.
I frowned and easily dodged, then kicked him in the knee.
Zhao Lingfeng winced in pain and knelt on one knee.
"Your Highness, you've had too much to drink; it's best if you return early."
With that, I turned to leave.
Zhao Lingfeng stood up angrily and shouted, "Hua Weiyang! Stop right there!"
I paused but did not turn back.
Zhao Lingfeng gritted his teeth and said, "Hua Weiyang, if you walk out that door today, don't even think about coming back!"
"If you regret it later, even if you kneel down and beg me, I won't spare you another glance!"
I scoffed and stepped away.
