Rao Jie earnestly discussed the gossip surrounding Wu Rong with Long Yong, seemingly unaware of any personal matters regarding Wu Rong. The bits of information he did know were merely what he had heard from Wu Xin.
Long Yong let out a sigh of relief. No matter what Wu Rong meant, at least one thing was certain: Rao Jie had no interest in him. This thought put Long Yong at ease.
Just then, Long Yong's phone vibrated. He opened it to find a message from He Dong.
"Professor Wu has arrived."
Long Yong interpreted this as meaning that whatever was going on with Professor Wu had concluded, and he was ready to leave with Rao Jie. So, he shared his understanding with Rao Jie.
Rao Jie nodded and said, "Then let's head back!"
Long Yong responded with a smile. As they walked back, they continued their leisurely conversation.
"Professor Wu is truly an outstanding gentleman—handsome and talented. Honestly, before he appeared, I never imagined someone could achieve such accolades before turning thirty. Professor Wu has really changed my perspective; there are indeed extraordinary people out there."
For reasons unknown to him, Long Yong found himself deliberately praising Wu Rong in front of Rao Jie, curious to see her reaction afterward.
Rao Jie had heard more about Wu Rong's legendary status in Foreign Country from Wu Xin, so she felt indifferent and simply nodded. "Professor Wu is genuinely dedicated and professional when it comes to mathematical research. Given his high intelligence, it's not surprising that he received the award."
Just as she was speaking, a few graduate students preparing to leave at the entrance snickered derisively.
Their laughter was loud enough for Rao Jie and Long Yong to hear.
Long Yong frowned slightly, and although Rao Jie felt a bit displeased as well, she chose to ignore it for the sake of avoiding trouble.
However, the group of graduate students showed no signs of restraint.
"Hmph! That award should have gone to Professor Ma. He has contributed to this field for twenty years and still hasn't received any recognition. Yet someone who just entered the field gets it—what a well-orchestrated arrangement!"
"Don't say that! You still don't understand the phenomenon of idolizing foreign talent? As long as someone has studied abroad at a prestigious school in Foreign Country, they are automatically considered superior to our local researchers. That's how first impressions are formed."
"How great! Shencheng University can take pride in having the youngest recipient ever; they must have put in quite a bit of effort!"
"Effort? How could that be? There were so many qualified predecessors blocking the way; based on experience alone, this newcomer shouldn't even be in contention. The judging process is inherently subjective; perhaps they just overlooked our professor's research results!"
"Professor Liu is the real victim here. He spent a year working on that report, spending most of his time in the office. We assistants helped him compile data for ages; we even created ten drafts together! We thought we were helping Professor Liu achieve something significant before graduation—something that would justify our time as graduate students—but then someone swooped in and stole it from us. Don't you think that's unfair?"
The five students—three men and two women—chattered incessantly, their words dripping with sarcasm aimed directly at Long Yong and Rao Jie.
Rao Jie felt her face turn pale with anger upon hearing this, but she was not someone who was good at arguing or debating with others. At that moment, Long Yong couldn't hold back any longer and said coldly, "Have you all had enough?"
