I was taken aback for a moment and looked down, only to realize that my wrist was covered in bruises. It was Ma Jia who did this last night. I hurriedly used my sleeve to cover the wound and said, "It's nothing." 0

"Did he do this?" Xiao Huai asked coldly. 0

I shook my head, "No." 0

"Then who did?" Xiao Huai pressed on. 0

I glanced at him, "It was Ma Jia." 0

"Who is he?" Xiao Huai asked in a cold voice. 0

I was momentarily stunned; Ma Jia was him, didn't he remember? But then again, he had forgotten me, so how could he remember Ma Jia? I lowered my head and said, "It's nothing, just an old friend." 0

"Old friend?" Xiao Huai scoffed, "An old friend would do this to you?" 0

I remained silent. 0

Xiao Huai looked at me and said, "Jiang Yue, is this your life now?" 0

I nodded, "Yeah." 0

"This is it?" Xiao Huai looked at me with disdain, "You've ended up like this?" 0

I lowered my gaze, "Yes, I have no ability, so I've ended up like this." 0

"You don't lack ability," Xiao Huai retorted coldly, "You are just wallowing in self-pity." 0

"Whatever," I said quietly, "Say what you want." 0

Xiao Huai glanced at me but didn't say anything more. 0

Soon, the car stopped at the entrance of my mom's neighborhood. 0

I got out of the car and walked away without looking back. In that moment, I suddenly felt an unprecedented sense of relief. However, it seemed like a part of my heart was empty, as if… something was missing. I recalled what Xiao Huai had just said to me. He was right; I had been wallowing in self-pity. 0

Six years ago, I followed a big shot to Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. In the end, I was deceived. The big shot had a wife there; I was merely his plaything. Once he grew tired of me, he discarded me. When I was thrown back, I had nothing. 0

Fortunately, my mother was willing to take me back. She said that as long as I followed her well, she could give me the best of everything in the world. But I no longer believed in those promises. The harsh realities of society had awakened me completely. I was no longer that naive and carefree girl from before. 0

I understood how cruel this world could be and how indifferent people could be. So, I stopped chasing after those illusory things. Xiao Huai asked me why I had become like this; honestly, I wanted to ask him the same question. Back then, I liked Xiao Huai so much, yet I still chose to follow that big shot. I thought I was pursuing my dreams. But after going through all this, I realized how foolish my choice had been. 0

Fortunately, I'm still young; there's still time for everything. 0

So I chose the ordinary, the mundane. Even if life isn't happy, at least I won't be covered in scars. Xiao Huai said I dumped him. I couldn't help but smile a little. Actually, if you think about it, he should be the one who dumped me. After all, when I left back then, he had no idea. If he had known, he would have definitely tried to stop me. But even if he did try to stop me, what difference would it make? With his abilities, he wouldn't have been able to keep me. So who dumped whom? Does it even matter? Youth always carries a bit of regret. Fortunately, I gained growth from it. 0

That evening, my mom called me home. When I arrived, I found both families were there—my relatives and those from Xiao Huai's family. Seeing this scene, I instantly understood. It must be that Ma Jia's breakup with me had been revealed. Sure enough, as soon as I stepped into the living room, someone started questioning me. 0

"Jiang Yue, what on earth is going on?" 0
"This wedding is about to happen; how could you break up?" 0
"Did you do something to hurt Ma Jia?" 0
"Is there someone else?" 0

Everyone was talking over each other, and it gave me a headache. 0
