She couldn't get through.
I smiled lightly, waved at her, and returned to the hospital room.
Chuming was standing outside the room.
When he saw me come back, he smiled at me in a flattering way.
I avoided his hand and walked into the room.
I had just sat down when Du Ming returned.
"Yang Juan, I want to tell you..."
"Du Ming, I'm tired and want to sleep."
Du Ming paused for a moment and said gently, "Alright, you sleep. I'll keep watch over you."
I closed my eyes and quickly fell asleep.
When I woke up again, it was already the next morning.
Du Ming was still sitting by the bed.
Seeing that I was awake, he smiled and asked, "Are you hungry? I made lean meat porridge for you to try."
I shook my head, "I don't want to eat."
Du Ming's smile froze, "Then... you rest a bit, and I'll come back to see you."
I nodded.
After Du Ming left, I closed my eyes and continued to sleep.
When I woke up again, it was already afternoon.
Du Ming came again.
He looked much more haggard.
He brought the porridge and fed me.
I managed to eat a couple of bites before falling asleep again.
When I woke up once more, it was already evening.
Du Ming was still by the bedside. His eyes were red, tightly holding my hand. "Yang Juan, you can't sleep anymore." I opened my mouth to speak but couldn't find the words. I was too tired. Du Ming's eyes were moist. "The doctor said to prepare for... the end." He could no longer hold back and ran out of the ward, hiding in the bathroom to cry. I closed my eyes and drifted into a deep sleep.
Shen Rou saw Chuming downstairs in the community. He was smoking. Upon seeing Shen Rou, he angrily asked, "What’s going on with those photos?" Shen Rou felt a sense of glee at Chuming's anger. The more upset he was, the more it showed he cared about her. She put on a wronged expression and said, "A-Ming, I was forced; those men pressured me into taking those photos."
Chuming shouted angrily, "Are you still lying?" He raised his hand and slapped her. Shen Rou was stunned by the blow. She covered her left cheek, tears streaming down her face. In disbelief, she looked at Chuming and said, "You actually hit me?"
Chuming replied coldly, "I’ve already told you that I love Yang Juan. I married her because I like her; I won't get angry with her over your issues. Why do you keep bothering her?"
Shen Rou screamed, "Impossible! You can't possibly love Yang Juan!"
Chuming wearily said, "Think what you want. If you dare to trouble Yang Juan again, don't blame me for being rude."
Shen Rou wiped away her tears and said, "Do you believe I’ll make those photos public?"
Chuming sneered, "Do you think I'm afraid?"
Shen Rou's face was pale. After Chuming left, she called Du Ming again. Unfortunately, Du Ming had also added her to his blacklist. Shen Rou was furious.
The next day, she appeared in Grandma Jiang's hospital room with a stack of photos. She smugly asked, "Old lady, do you see clearly now? Your granddaughter has divorced Chuming. If your granddaughter doesn't leave Chuming, you'll see photos of her as a mistress all over the place."
Grandma Jiang trembled as she picked up the photos, shaking her head repeatedly, "Impossible, Juanjuan and A-Ming won't get divorced."
Shen Rou laughed heartily, "I'm telling you, Yang Juan is dying; she deserves it!"
Grandma Jiang's expression changed drastically. The nurse noticed something was wrong and rushed in, shouting, "Doctor!" Shen Rou only intended to provoke Grandma Jiang but didn't expect it to escalate like this; she was frightened and ran away.
