After two years, Jade Wing was handling affairs in the demon realm as usual when he suddenly discovered a plate of chicken dishes on the table.
In a panic, he shouted, "Someone, I wants to know who made this!" After asking many people, no one admitted to making it.
In the depths of the demon realm's palace, the cry of Jade Wing echoed through the empty corridors. This sudden discovery plunged the entire palace into a strange chaos.
Jade Wing looked puzzled and curious. He couldn't understand why such a dish of chicken suddenly appeared. This was extremely rare in the usual demon realm palace, especially when it was so fittingly connected to the jokes between him and Zhiyun.
He ordered his subordinates to gather all possible informants in the hall. Soldiers, attendants, and even chefs from the demon realm all reported to Jade Wing, but each one claimed to have no knowledge of the chicken dish.
Jade Wing sat back on his throne, furrowing his brow as he pondered the possible hidden meanings behind this. At that moment, Elder Chise slowly walked into the hall, his eyes seemingly flashing with a strange light.
"Jade Wing Your Highness, this may be a sign, or perhaps just a coincidence. But regardless, the appearance of this dish surely holds a special meaning." Elder Chise's voice carried a hint of mystery.
Jade Wing turned to look at Elder Chise, feeling a stir in his heart. He suddenly remembered some small things about Zhiyun when she was alive, especially the day she secretly learned to cook a chicken dish to make him happy, whether it was a capercaillie or not.
On that day, they opened their hearts and shared long-lost laughter.
"What do you mean?" Jade Wing's voice carried a hint of anticipation.
Elder Chise did not give a direct answer, but instead smiled faintly, turned and left the hall, leaving behind the words: "Perhaps you should go to the place where you both experienced joy to find the answer."
Jade Wing immediately understood Elder Chise's hint. He hurriedly got up, left the palace, and headed towards the earthly residence where he and Zhiyun had spent many wonderful times together.
When Jade Wing arrived at the residence, everything was as beautiful as he remembered. Under the moonlight, every flower in the garden emitted a faint glow, and the air was filled with a delicate floral fragrance. Jade Wing walked to the stone bench where they had once sat together, filled with countless memories in his heart.
At that moment, he noticed an open book on the small table next to the stone bench, with a passage written on the page that caught his eye - "When you read this, I am no longer here, but my heart will always be with you... - Zhiyun."
Jade Wing's heart suddenly shook, and he lightly touched the words as if he could feel the warmth that Zhiyun had left in those words. Tears unconsciously fell from his eyes and dropped onto the page, leaving behind a trail of marks.
Suddenly, he noticed a small and delicate Penglai caldron placed next to the book page, an item he had always carried with him but had disappeared at some point. Jade Wing instantly understood that all of this was left to him by Zhiyun, who had in some way transcended the boundaries of life and death to give him this final gift.
He tightly grasped the Penglai caldron, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again, he was full of determination, with a firm resolve shining in his eyes.
"Zhiyun, I understand. Your will, your love, will always be with me. I will continue to move forward, for our dreams, for protecting the peace of this world," Jade Wing said softly, her voice filled with reluctance and determination.
As Jade Wing was preparing to leave the place full of memories, a scent of roasted claypot chicken wafted into his nose, catching his attention. This aroma was both familiar and unfamiliar to the Fourth Prince of the demon realm, as it evoked the wonderful times he had spent with Zhiyun. His steps involuntarily moved towards the source of the fragrance, filled with curiosity and anticipation.
After walking through the winding path and passing through the brilliantly lit courtyard bathed in moonlight, Jade Wing finally arrived at a secluded garden. Surrounded by ancient trees, each seemed to tell a distant story. In the center was a stone-built oven, next to which sat a large claypot, emitting an enticing aroma.
At this moment, a figure stood by the stove, attentively turning the roast chicken in the pot. The person was dressed in a simple blue long shirt, with their back to the moonlight, their face vaguely discernible in the night. Jade Wing felt both familiar and strange about this scene, as if the person's actions, the garden, and even the fragrance were leading him into a distant memory.
"Who are you?" Jade Wing couldn't help but ask, his voice carrying a hint of undisguised tremor.
The person turned gently, illuminated by the moonlight, revealing a familiar and gentle face. It was Zhiyun, yet somehow not quite. There was a sparkle in her eyes and a faint smile on her lips, as if time and space had lost their meaning in that moment.
"Who I am is not important. What's important is that you have found your way here," the person's voice was gentle and mysterious, as if carrying a sense of transcendental tranquility.
The shock in Yuyi's heart was indescribable. At this moment, he almost believed that Zhiyun had not left, that she was here with him. However, his rational mind told him that there must be a deeper meaning behind everything in front of him.
"How could you be here? Zhiyun... Is it really you?" Yuyi sought for answers, his voice filled with longing and uncertainty.
The person approached step by step, handing a piece of already roasted chicken to Jade Wing, with a gesture that revealed an indescribable sense of closeness and familiarity. "Eat, this is prepared for you. And as for me, perhaps what you should ask is not who I am, but to use your mouth to confirm."
Jade Wing took the chicken, and instantly, a warm energy spread throughout his body from the palm of his hand. As he took a bite, it was a familiar taste from his memory, and it seemed to have been enhanced with fruit to remove the gamey taste, making the whole chicken sweet but not greasy.
"This taste, it's you, Zhiyun, you're back!" He was ecstatic, leaving the chicken aside and embracing the person in front of him, just to make sure this was real, not a dream!
In that moment of embrace, Jade Wing felt the long-lost warmth and reassurance. Zhiyun's body gradually became tangible, no longer just a figment of his imagination. She gently pushed Jade Wing away, her gaze soft yet firm, as if wanting to convey all the unspoken words to him.
Zhiyun's eyes were filled with tenderness and a hint of bitterness as she gently caressed Jade Wing's face, as if trying to smooth away all his doubts and pain. "Yes, I'm back. My spirit has been nourished by the Penglai caldron. During this time, I have been working hard to recover until I have the strength to appear before you in this form again."
Jade Wing held Zhiyun tightly, his heart filled with complex emotions. Joy, shock, and reluctance intertwined, forming an indescribable whirlpool of emotions. "So, can we be together forever this time?" Jade Wing's voice was low and filled with uncertainty.
"Of course, it's forever." Zhiyun responded with a playful smile.
