Lin Xi tugged at a leaf from the Holly Tree by the roadside and threw it forcefully into the middle of the street, but the leaf lightly floated down to her feet again.
"Lin Xi." Just as Lin Xi was about to walk away, she suddenly heard someone calling her from behind.
It was a familiar voice! An eagerly anticipated voice! Lin Xi couldn't afford to be pretentious or dramatic; she quickly turned around. Sure enough, it was him! Just like the first time she saw him, wearing a pure white t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, looking healthy and sun-kissed, but with a mischievous grin, casually leaning against the wall behind her, gazing at her.
"Why are you here?" Lin Xi almost forgot her earlier excitement and blurted out this question.
Under Lin Xi's scrutinizing gaze, Lu Chenyu suddenly felt a bit shy. He scratched his head, chuckled lightly, and said, "I just noticed you in front and couldn't help but call out to you."
"Oh!" Lin Xi responded with an "oh" and then didn't know what else to say.
At that moment, Lu Chenyu had already walked up beside Lin Xi.
Standing next to Lu Chenyu, Lin Xi suddenly felt a strange sensation because they had never walked this close together before. She lowered her head, feeling nervous and flustered, unable to say a word despite being usually eloquent.

Lin Xi stopped in front of a utility pole, turned to glance at him, waved her hand, and said, "Goodbye."
Lu Chenyu still kept his head down, seemingly pondering what he wanted to say to Lin Xi, but he didn't say goodbye.
It wasn't until Lin Xi turned to walk in another direction that he finally gathered the courage to call out.
"Lin Xi..." Just as Lin Xi's figure was about to disappear from his sight, Lu Chenyu suddenly shouted.
Lin Xi did not turn back; she simply paused in her steps.
"Which school are you planning to apply to?" Lu Chenyu shouted across the street.
Lin Xi still did not turn around or look back; she just paused for a moment before continuing to walk forward.
It wasn't that Lin Xi didn't hear his voice.
It was just that what was the point of asking these things now! Lin Xi felt a surge of frustration inside!
You wouldn't listen when I told you to study hard, and you ignored my advice to cherish our time as desk mates. What good is it to ask these questions now?

Qinglan, who had just finished her college entrance examination, was packing her things in the dormitory. The room was in disarray; other students who lived closer to the school or had relatives and friends in the county had already finished packing and left.

Simple often came to Qinglan's school to hang out with her, and they had become close friends who shared everything.
"Hehe." Before Simple could speak, her face was already beaming with joy as she laughed.
"What's the good news? Did you do well on the exam?" Qinglan asked while continuing to pack her things.
"Yeah, it was okay," Simple replied, nodding vigorously while holding an ice pop in her hand.
Qinglan looked up at this food-loving girl; her eyes lit up for a moment. It was indeed impressive that Simple felt she had done okay on the exam.
"I'm just hoping to get into a junior college," she said as she took a bite of her ice pop.
"You're only aiming for a junior college?" Qinglan said somewhat irritably. "I told you to study hard and aim for a good university. You didn't listen because you were afraid of hardship. If we could both get into the same school and major, that would be great."
"Yeah." Simple sat amidst a mess, feeling discouraged, and said, "I just wanted to be classmates with you. Your grades are so good, you're so outstanding, but you look down on me. Look at our classmates; they're all from second-rate high schools and classes, none of them are better than you, yet they all look down on me. You're the best, and I just want to be friends with you." She pouted and spoke with a sense of grievance.
"Who told you not to listen to me? When I asked you to come here every day to study together during revision, I could explain things you didn't understand, but you didn't listen. You only study sporadically."
"But, sister." A drop of popsicle juice fell on her green skirt, and she quickly got up to ask Qinglan for a tissue to wipe it off. "If only I had met you in kindergarten! If you had started supervising me back then, I could have kept up with you. I met you too late; by the time I got to know you, we weren't even starting from the same starting line. How can I catch up with you? Sigh! Now I finally understand the meaning of 'regret for not meeting earlier.'"
Qinglan turned around and helplessly glared at her. "You always have a thousand excuses to justify yourself; there's really no way to deal with you." Qinglan poked her forehead.
She tilted her body and fell onto the bed.
"Hey, hey, hey." Qinglan suddenly shouted, hurriedly putting down what she was holding and running over to Simple, pulling her up from the bed with one hand. "Young lady, I can only go home tomorrow morning. I still have to stay here tonight. Look at this; all the popsicle juice has dripped onto my bed. How am I supposed to sleep tonight?"
"Oh, I remember now." Simple suddenly jumped up from the bed without needing Qinglan's help. "The reason I came to find you is that I wanted to tell you not to sleep alone in the dormitory tonight; it's not safe. We just finished the exam, and the area around campus is very unsafe." Simple's eyes always sparkled with a magical light. "I know it's unsafe too, but if I don't sleep here, where else can I go? Stay in a hotel? I'm just a high school student; I have no money. Sleep on the street? Even though it's summer, it's still cold, and besides, the police won't allow it; they'll take me away as a beggar." Qinglan looked at Simple and spoke word by word.
"Come to my house!" Simple said proudly as she pointed her head. "I specifically came here to take you home with me."
