In the Girls' Dormitory Area A, Room 502.
Jiang Liuying sat in front of the computer, her smile radiant.
This smile was worth a fortune.
"Liuying, what's the happy news? Don't keep it to yourself, share it so we can all enjoy it together. It's better to have fun together than alone," Shen Xiaomeng loved to tease Liuying. Whenever it came to Liuying, she had to chime in and always aimed to mock her before anyone else could.
Despite Shen Xiaomeng's usually quiet demeanor and gentle appearance, once she spoke, she was sharp-tongued and witty.
This time, Liuying didn’t glare at Shen Xiaomeng but instead waved at her cheerfully, "Come over and take a look; it’s hilarious."
"What is it?" Shen Xiaomeng walked over with a cup of warm milk.
Liuying pointed at her computer screen and said, "Look, this online friend of mine is really funny."
Shen Xiaomeng leaned in closer, staring at the screen for a while before bursting into laughter.
"Pretty funny, right?" A hint of shy amusement finally appeared in Liuying's usually stern gaze.
"He seems to like you, Liuying," Shen Xiaomeng said after studying Liuying's smiling face for a moment.
"What?" Liuying pretended to be clueless.
"Are you two... you know..." Shen Xiaomeng made a gesture with her thumbs to indicate a couple, "Are you two in an online relationship?"
"Online relationship?" Liuying scoffed lightly. "I'm not interested in that."
"But it feels like you two are in an online romance," Shen Xiaomeng emphasized again, thinking that Jiang Liuying wouldn't admit it. She had always liked to challenge Jiang Liuying, so she insisted on her feelings.
"Because I want to turn this online romance into reality. I've already decided to meet him," Jiang Liuying said calmly, her expression as composed as if she were simply stating that she wanted a glass of water.
"Meet?" Shen Xiaomeng put down her cup and pinched her ears with both hands. "Hmm, both ears are working fine. I didn't hear wrong, did I?" She could hardly believe her ears.
Seeing Shen Xiaomeng's exaggerated behavior and expression, Jiang Liuying was somewhat puzzled. "What's the problem? Can't we meet?"
Qinglan, who was sitting at the desk writing a work summary, and Hu Jiao'er, who was lying on the bed reading and listening to music, also put down what they were doing.
"Jiang Liuying, have you really decided to pursue an online romance?" Hu Jiao'er asked, pulling out the earbuds from her ears.
Qinglan just stared at them.
"I've heard that online romances are very unreliable; many are scams," Shen Xiaomeng said.
"I met him on our school's campus network. He is from our school, okay? He's from the Fine Arts College," Jiang Liuying shook her head, feeling helpless about their exaggerated reactions.
"What?" As soon as Jiang Liuying's words left her mouth, Shen Xiaomeng, Qinglan, and Hu Jiao'er almost simultaneously exclaimed.
"Our school?"
"From the Fine Arts College?"
The three of them looked completely stunned, their eyes wide open like saucers.
"The boys at the art academy are all handsome!" The first to react was Shen Xiaomeng, who screamed like a sprite.
"Whether they are handsome or not, I don't know; we haven't met yet," Liuying replied with her usual calm demeanor, as if the topic they were eagerly discussing had nothing to do with her, her tone devoid of any emotion.
"When are you planning to meet?" Qinglan was more composed and practical, finally getting to the most important part of the conversation. "Tonight; it's already been arranged." Behind her glasses, Liuying remained as indifferent as the early spring wind in Beijing—though not cold, it always gave a chilling feeling. "Tonight?" After hearing Liuying's words, the three girls couldn't help but admire Liuying's composure once again.
Their excitement was even harder to contain than Liuying's, and the dorm room immediately erupted like a pot of boiling porridge.
First, Shen Xiaomeng picked up her phone from the desk to check the time and asked, "What time is the date?"
"Seven o'clock," Liuying replied, never one to waste a word.
"Seven o'clock? Oh my gosh, it's already six!" Shen Xiaomeng exclaimed.
At this moment, Hu Jiao'er had already gotten out of bed, and Qinglan walked over to Jiang Liuying.
"A date at seven and we haven't prepared anything yet," Qinglan said.
"What do we need to prepare?" Liuying countered.
"Makeup! Even if you don't like it, you have to put on at least some light makeup."
Shen Xiaomeng was already rummaging through her drawer, which was filled with various cosmetics. In the past, during some cultural activities in class, it was mostly Shen Xiaomeng who helped with makeup.
"Why do I need to wear makeup?" Liuying asked.
Qinglan and Shen Xiaomeng had already given up on continuing the debate with Liuying. One pushed and the other pulled, managing to get Liuying from in front of the computer to right in front of Shen Xiaomeng, forcibly sitting her down on a chair.
"Why do you have to wear makeup for a date?" Liuying had just given in when Hu Jiao'er chimed in with a sarcastic remark.
As soon as she heard someone supporting her view, Liuying perked up and jumped off the chair. "Exactly! Why must you wear makeup for a date? Is my skin not fair? Isn't it rosy enough?" Liuying asked while touching her cheek.
Qinglan and Shen Xiaomeng glared at the meddling Hu Jiao'er, especially Shen Xiaomeng, who gritted her teeth and raised her fist in a threatening manner towards Hu Jiao'er. "You better watch out; when it's your turn to date, I'll make sure you look terrible."
"I don't date," Hu Jiao'er replied nonchalantly.
"Okay, I’ll remember that. If you ever go on a date, I’ll definitely tag along to sabotage it," Shen Xiaomeng laughed.
"You are quite the sharp-tongued one," Qinglan said, pointing at Shen Xiaomeng. "You never hold back your words."
"Come on, help Liuying with her makeup," Qinglan said as she pressed Liuying back down onto the chair, holding her shoulders so that she couldn't move.
"Are you two kidnapping me or something?" Liuying could only turn her head to look back at Qinglan and then at Shen Xiaomeng.
Only Hu Jiao'er was enjoying herself, returning to her bed to listen to music.
With no other choice, the kidnapped Jiang Liuying had to tilt her face up and let Shen Xiaomeng apply makeup on her delicate features.
After finishing with her face, Shen Xiaomeng suddenly began inspecting Jiang Liuying's outfit from top to bottom. "Your outfit is too strange," Shen Xiaomeng said, crossing her arms and resting her chin on one fist while scrutinizing Jiang Liuying. "And what about those glasses? Can you not wear them tonight? In all of A University—oh no, not just A University, but all of Beijing City and even all of China—who still wears glasses like yours? Except for old ladies." Shen Xiaomeng's sharp tongue showed no mercy.
"What’s wrong with these glasses? I've been wearing them for many years; they've always been like this," Jiang Liuying replied dismissively.
