Previously, Qing Shusheng was busy shouting with other men, and he was sent atop the coffin by them. At the same time, Liu Jiawei was also on top.
The huge coffin was lifted by eight people and headed towards the back mountain of Liu Family Village. Lin Wenhui followed beside the coffin, serving as both a close friend and brother to Qing Shusheng while supporting both Qing Shusheng and Liu Jiawei to prevent any mishaps during the ascent. Since Liu Jiawei was a grandchild, he could dismount from the coffin halfway up, while Qing Shusheng, as a son-in-law, had to remain on the coffin until they reached the burial site.
At the moment Qing Shusheng sat atop Liu Dezhou's coffin, Liu Xiuzhen's tears fell like threads.
For her, these tears were not of sorrow but of emotion. In that moment, she felt a tide of feelings; she truly realized that the tall and imposing man sitting on her father's coffin was her man—one that no one could take away.
No! It wasn't that no one could take him away; it was that he had already firmly established himself as Liu Dezhou's son. A son is bound by blood and familial ties that cannot be taken away, just like his steadfast charisma.
Liu Family Village had rules: the Azure Dragon enters, and the White Tiger exits. Therefore, after departing from Azure Dragon Hill on the left side of the village for burial in the back mountain, those who carried the coffin and those who buried it had to descend from White Tiger Head on the right side of the village.
Only males could accompany Liu Dezhou up the mountain, so Liu Xiuzhen's three sisters, despite being close relatives, could only escort him partway and were ordered to stop before reaching Azure Dragon Hill.
By the time those who buried Liu Dezhou returned home, it was nearly two or three in the morning. Most women and girls in other households were already asleep.
However, all the women and girls in Liu Xiuzhen's household were still awake, waiting for those from the mountain to return and needing to prepare some late-night snacks for them. Thus, Bai Cuifen and Jia Zhilan were still helping in Liu Xiuzhen's home.
When everyone was finally settled down to sleep, roosters in the yard had already crowed several times, and dawn was beginning to break.
The next day, An Shaomin and Jian Ming left.
Lin Wenhui also left due to classes. Jia Zhilan was forced to stay by Bai Cuifen and Liu Xiuzhen and only returned to Provincial Capital after staying in Liu Family Village for three days.
An Shaojie also planned to leave the next day. Bai Cuifen angrily said, "Are you busy starting a career or what? You didn't come back before, and now you're rushing off again—what's the reasoning behind that?"
An Shaojie said, "I have to go back to school, and the round trip will delay several days of my studies. Am I still going to school?" An Shaojie was also annoyed; he knew that Xu Wen had come back with Qinglan when he was at school.
"Qinglan is also studying. Is it really going to affect her grades just because of a few days' delay? Does anyone not have important matters at home that require a few days away from school?" Bai Cuifen questioned.
An Shaojie snorted dismissively and said, "What kind of important matter is this? What does it have to do with me?"
Before An Shaojie could finish his sentence, a loud slap landed on his face. "You ungrateful brat!"
Bai Cuifen looked pale as she stared at An Shaojie. He covered his face, stunned as he gazed at Bai Cuifen.
This was the first time Bai Cuifen had truly hit him in his more than twenty years of life, and she hit hard. He could feel a burning pain on his face.
Where did he go wrong? He glared angrily at Bai Cuifen!
In a fit of anger, he ran out.
Watching him run away, Bai Cuifen slumped into a chair.
After An Shaojie ran out, he went to the back slope of Wife Mountain. Memories from his childhood flashed through his mind—humiliation, anger, and the time he felt moved carrying Qinglan down the mountain all surged in his heart. He shouted to the sky, "I don't owe her anything! Why should I? Why?"
Especially when he thought about how Qinglan actually let Xu Wen come back with her to Liu Family Village, An Shaojie became even more furious.
"Since she decided to only like me since we were young, why did she have to get involved with Xu Wen in college? Isn't it just because he's more handsome, has a better family background, better conditions, and a brighter future?" An Shaojie thought indignantly.
"She has been involved with someone else, is it still my fault? Why does everything have to be blamed on me? From childhood to now, I have never been in a relationship, I have never liked anyone, yet she has liked others in her heart, and everyone points fingers at me while defending her? Why? Is there still any fairness?" An Shaojie shouted at the sky and the trees.
In the end, An Shaojie still succumbed to Bai Cuifen's arrangements. Three days later, he returned to school with Qinglan.
Upon arriving at the Provincial Capital, Xiang Yuanqiu had already bought tickets for Qinglan and her companions and accompanied them to the train station. Along with her was a boy named Wang Wei, who had previously come with her to send off Qinglan.
When Wang Wei saw Qinglan, he was very enthusiastic and seemed quite familiar with her. He didn't care that An Shaojie was beside Qinglan; he kept chatting with her and even brought up the last time they sent Qinglan off.
Qinglan felt a bit awkward because she had almost forgotten him and didn't remember that he had come with Xiang Yuanqiu to pick her up at the station before.
Most importantly, An Shaojie's expression was not pleasant, but Wang Wei seemed oblivious. He ignored Xiang Yuanqiu and An Shaojie, focusing solely on talking to Qinglan.
Xiang Yuanqiu then started talking to An Shaojie. Initially, An Shaojie was unwilling to engage with Xiang Yuanqiu; ever since she reported him about the meal tickets back in middle school, he had not liked her much. However, seeing Wang Wei chatting happily with Qinglan, he endured his feelings and made an effort to converse with Xiang Yuanqiu.
Finally, they boarded the train.
They found their seats right next to each other in the same row. Qinglan was very happy; recalling how he had taken care of her during their last train ride made her secretly delighted. This time she had another opportunity to ease the tension between them.
As soon as Qinglan sat down and saw An Shaojie coming towards her from behind, she hurriedly stood up and waved at him vigorously, saying, "Brother Shaojie, over here!" However, An Shaojie merely glanced at her without approaching. His eyes continued to search around. Ignoring Qinglan, he walked past her and approached a young girl sitting nearby. "Beautiful girl, could you swap seats with me?" he asked.
He showed the girl his train ticket seat number and explained, "You see, all the girls are on my side; it wouldn't be comfortable for me to sit in between them. On your side are all boys; it wouldn't be convenient for you either. Wouldn't it be better if we swapped?" The girl laughed at An Shaojie's humorous words. After glancing over at Qinglan's side and confirming his claim, she readily agreed and moved her things to sit next to Qinglan. An Shaojie shot a glance at Qinglan as if feeling somewhat pleased before moving over to chat with several boys nearby.
