Jiang Liuying scoffed and retorted, "How am I being inappropriate? You're the one thinking too much. What I meant was, move into his dorm. Doesn't he have a lot of empty beds? You could set up a bed in his dorm, and you both could sleep in separate beds. Is it necessary to sleep in the same bed? Even if you do share a bed, does that automatically mean it's inappropriate?" Jiang Liuying pressed Hu Jiao'er until she had no words to respond.
Hu Jiao'er blocked Jiang Liuying's advance with her hands, pushing her back a step. "You have ulterior motives, don't you? You want me to get expelled in my last semester before graduation, right? Even though Zhou Xiaochuan and I are together all the time, we aren't in the dorm; we're in the study room!" Hu Jiao'er pouted defiantly, looking as if she shouldn't be underestimated.
"Wow," Jiang Liuying laughed, "I didn't expect that Hu Jiao'er and Zhou Xiaochuan would still be squeezing in study time right before graduation. Truly, time is money, ha ha."
Hu Jiao'er appeared uninterested. "Believe it or not, just because you and your Mosen love studying for graduate school doesn't mean it's the same for us. Zhou Xiaochuan and I are preparing for civil service exams; we plan to go back to his hometown for stable jobs."
Shen Xiaomeng sat on the upper bunk watching Hu Jiao'er and Jiang Liuying playfully argue. She had already finished knitting a scarf during her internship but was now working on another one, this one in dark green.
"Mengmeng, why are you knitting so many scarves?" Jiang Liuying stopped teasing Hu Jiao'er and turned to Shen Xiaomeng.
After her internship ended, she and Hao Chuanze had been almost at a standstill. It was said that during the internship, another guy from a different college who was interning at the same place was pursuing her. She neither accepted nor rejected him but maintained a good friendship, claiming he was like an older brother. Her relationship with Hao Chuanze remained similar to before the internship—neither advancing nor retreating. Hao Chuanze's internship location was far from hers, but it was rumored that he visited her several times during the internship. However, her attitude remained lukewarm each time, leaving him happy when he arrived but disappointed when he left.
Everyone said this showed that Hao Chuanze truly cared for her. The problem was with her; she lacked confidence and felt unworthy of him, which led her to deliberately show an aloof demeanor to others.
Recently, there were rumors that Hao Chuanze was preparing to go abroad, which also explained Shen Xiaomeng's indifference towards him. She wasn't intentionally trying to act aloof; she had genuinely decided to break up with him.
Lately, she had become increasingly quiet, prompting Jiang Liuying and Hu Jiao'er to occasionally pull her into conversations; otherwise, she might not speak a word all day. They were genuinely worried she might be developing depression.
Shen Xiaomeng smiled at her but remained silent.
"Stop knitting and come down. Let's go out and have some fun," Jiang Liuying looked up at her.
"No thanks." She smiled again before lowering her head to focus on knitting her scarf, ignoring Jiang Liuying further.
Jiang Liuying sighed helplessly.
Hu Jiao'er had been standing by her bed, quietly watching Shen Xiaomeng.
"Liuying, how's your graduate school application going?" After a moment of silence in the dormitory, Hu Jiao'er suddenly remembered Jiang Liuying's application and leaned over to ask.
At the beginning of this semester, Qinglan, An Shaojie, Xu Wen, and another student were recommended by the college for exemption from the entrance exam due to their excellent grades and overall performance. However, since An Shaojie went abroad, his spot was given to the student ranked fifth overall. Qinglan then voluntarily gave up her qualification, allowing Jiang Liuying, who was ranked sixth overall, to take her place.
Although she had obtained the qualification for graduate school application and did not need to take a written exam, she still needed to prepare for an interview. So during this time, she was preparing for the interview, but it was much more relaxed than her usual study sessions.
"Yeah, I'm preparing. I have no idea what they will ask in the interview," Jiang Liuying said while sitting in front of her computer searching for information related to the graduate school interview.
"It should be fine. You can ask last year's senior sisters and seniors about what to pay attention to in the interview and what questions to prepare," Hu Jiao'er suggested.
"Yes, I've already contacted a senior sister from last year. She gave me some advice."
"That's good. You should be fine; I heard there won't be any extra interviews this year," Hu Jiao'er added.
"Yeah, I heard that too, but I can't do too poorly; I'd feel bad about it myself," Jiang Liuying said without looking up from her computer.
"That's true." Hu Jiao'er had already started lying on her bed, preparing to put on her headphones and listen to music.
"Hey!" Jiang Liuying suddenly sighed and said, "I wonder what's going on with Qinglan? Is it because of An Shaojie's sudden departure that she felt impacted? She gave up on her graduate school application and now suddenly got sick and went home without even meeting us. I don't know what illness she has or what's going on."
Hearing Jiang Liuying suddenly mention Qinglan, Hu Jiao'er pulled out the earplugs she had stuffed in her ears. Shen Xiaomeng also stopped knitting her scarf and perked up to listen intently.
"Have you contacted her?" Hu Jiao'er asked, leaning forward.
"I did, but she won't say anything," Jiang Liuying shook her head.
"Then ask Xu Wen," Hu Jiao'er suggested.
"Ask Xu Wen? Do you think he would say anything? His mouth is tighter than anyone else's, and his logic is so rigorous that you can't get a word out of him," Jiang Liuying pouted.
"What kind of illness could make her take such a long leave? I heard she didn't even attend her internship in the last month," Jiang Liuying continued, lifting her head from the computer.
"Yeah," Hu Jiao'er completely took off her headphones and placed them on the desk beside her bed, losing interest in listening to music. "If it's a serious illness and we didn't go to see her, it would be sad to think about it later."
"That shouldn't be the case," Shen Xiaomeng, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up. "Xu Wen is doing fine; he comes to class every day and even works at his internship during his free time. If Lanlan's illness were serious, he wouldn't have the energy to attend classes or work."
Jiang Liuying and Hu Jiao'er both looked at Shen Xiaomeng. "That's true," they said almost in unison.
"Why don't we three go to the hospital to find out what's going on?" Jiang Liuying suggested anxiously.
"Who can find out? I heard that Xu Wen is the one handling her leave. With him managing it, how could anyone find out the reason? His mouth is so tight that he probably asked the hospital not to disclose anything. Given his character and reputation, which teacher in the hospital wouldn't trust him?" Shen Xiaomeng replied.
