Jonas put away his earlier smile and asked in a half-serious tone, "So, Raymond, how did you end up in this place?" 0

Upon hearing the question, Raymond's smile faded slightly. He shrugged lightly, his tone becoming casual and flat. "After the war ended, the troops were disbanded, and I didn't want to continue living that life on the edge. To be honest, I'm a bit tired of constantly facing the threat of death." He paused for a moment, his gaze drifting into the distance as if reminiscing about the past years. "I happened to see that they were hiring professional security here, and the pay was decent. I thought, why not give it a try? At least it's better than risking my life on the battlefield." 0

Jonas pretended to be dissatisfied and shook his head, but a teasing smile crept onto his lips. "Such a great job, and you didn't even tell me in advance? Aren't you considering recommending it to an old friend?" 0

Raymond couldn't help but burst into laughter. His hearty laughter echoed vibrantly in the cold environment of the basement. "You old boss! I never expected you to turn into an adventurer! Forget about recommending jobs; I can't even believe you're doing something so thrilling!" 0

Jonas waved his hand with a smile, seemingly embarrassed by the title. "What adventurer? I'm just running around looking for some old stuff. It's just a bit more interesting than sitting in an office." 0

Looking at Jonas's nonchalant demeanor, Raymond wore a relaxed smile but his eyes held a hint of understanding. No matter how casually Jonas downplayed it, Raymond knew that they veterans could not easily adapt to a peaceful life; that desire for challenge and danger had long been ingrained in their bones. Perhaps it was this very desire that led them down such different paths, yet the camaraderie and understanding forged on the battlefield remained unchanged. 0

"I know you won't be satisfied just wasting time in an office," Raymond teased, then gave Jonas's shoulder a hearty pat. 0

Raymond's smile carried a hint of mischief as he patted Jonas's back with evident pride. "That's why I recommended you to my superiors, Jonas. You're essential for this operation." His tone was light yet conveyed an underlying seriousness and determination, clearly a well-considered decision. 0

Hearing this, Jonas couldn't help but show a wry smile. He knew that sometimes Raymond made harmless jokes, but this time his tone surprised him. Jonas forced out a resigned smile and shook his head, trying to sound casual as he said, "Come on now, stop teasing me. I'm just an outdated soldier; I can't bear such high expectations." 0

Seeing this, Raymond also laughed naturally without any malice. He reached out and gently pushed Jonas's shoulder with an undeniable force. "Come on, stop being modest. This operation is already set; you're an indispensable part of it. Now, let me take you to meet the members of this operation; everyone is waiting to see you." 0

Jonas shrugged helplessly, unable to refuse Raymond's half-joking yet half-serious invitation. They walked out of the room together, heading down the long and cold corridor of the underground base. The surrounding environment still felt so indifferent and serious, but their light-hearted conversation made the journey feel less oppressive. 0

The corridor lights were dim yellow, and their footsteps echoed sharply on the metal floor. Walking side by side, Raymond occasionally shared memories from old battlefields, making the atmosphere more relaxed. The subtle tension within Jonas seemed to fade gradually with these conversations as he found himself looking forward to meeting those people soon. 0

Soon, they arrived at a heavy metal door, marked with a sign that read "Conference Room." Raymond stopped, turned around, and offered Jonas an encouraging smile. "Alright, here we are. The people inside are top-notch experts; some of their professional backgrounds are even stronger than those we encountered back in the day. Just wait until you meet them; they'll open your eyes." 0

Jonas took a deep breath, nodded slightly, and maintained a faint smile on his face. He knew that behind this door lay more unknown challenges, but no matter what, he would face them in his best state. At that moment, Raymond pushed open the thick metal door, revealing a spacious and bright conference room. The light poured in, illuminating their faces as if signaling the beginning of the action about to unfold. 0

As Raymond opened the heavy metal door, Jonas stepped inside, and the scene before him made him slow his pace. The conference room was spacious and bright, with walls made of stark metal and glass that reflected the cold glow of fluorescent lights, giving the entire space an especially chilly and serious atmosphere. A long table was already filled with people who appeared focused, seemingly immersed in the discussion at hand. The atmosphere in the room felt somewhat oppressive, even evoking a sense of invisible pressure. 0

Jonas quickly scanned the room and noticed a woman sitting at the center of the table, around thirty-five years old. She wore a dark professional suit that fit her well, her short hair neatly styled, and her expression was stern and focused. At that moment, she was pointing at a complex chart displayed on the screen, explaining her research project in a calm yet firm tone. 0

"Our Stem Cell Synthesis Technology is based on a mysterious and ancient Cell," her voice was clear and powerful, capturing everyone's attention in the room. Jonas listened silently, his gaze becoming more intent. He knew this woman was evidently one of the key figures in this operation. 0

She continued her explanation: "The origin of this Cell remains a mystery, but we are certain it possesses exceptionally strong regenerative abilities. When we introduced this Cell into stem cells, we found it could reactivate dead stem cells and replicate them in various ways." Her finger glided across the screen, showcasing a series of complex data and microscopic images. Jonas caught glimpses of those stem cells under the microscope displaying astonishing regenerative capabilities as if witnessing some miracle of life. 0

"More importantly," she paused slightly, causing everyone present to hold their breath involuntarily, "this Cell does not trigger any rejection response in the human body. Our experiments show that these Cells can fully integrate with human tissue and promote the regeneration and repair of damaged tissues. This means we could not only cure Leukemia but potentially repair other irreversible injuries." 0

Jonas stood at the door quietly listening to her explanation. His gaze fell on the data charts displayed on the screen as various possible outcomes flooded his mind. If this technology truly worked as she claimed, it would completely revolutionize modern medicine and even change humanity's understanding of life's limits. Despite all this hopefulness, Jonas felt an inexplicable unease within him. 0

The woman's voice continued to echo in the conference room; each word seemed to outline a brand new future. Her explanation was filled with a scientist's calmness and confidence, yet in this cold atmosphere, Jonas sensed an elusive danger lurking beneath—a dark force he could not fully comprehend hidden behind this technology. 0

The others in the conference room listened quietly, occasionally whispering among themselves but mostly lost in deep thought. Each person present—scientists, engineers, or security experts—seemed to be weighing the infinite potential and risks this technology might bring within their minds. Raymond gently nudged Jonas's shoulder, signaling him to find a place to sit down. Jonas said nothing; he simply nodded and found an empty seat at the table to continue observing everything silently. 0
