"Miss Hao, you should go back to Xingcheng with Mr. Gao." My hand holding the spoon paused, feeling bitter and sour inside.
"Aunt Zhang, you should go back; there's no need to worry about me."
"How can that be? Mr. Gao instructed me to take good care of you."
My eyes stung as I forced a smile. "He really doesn't need to do so much for me."
Aunt Zhang's expression darkened upon hearing this. "Miss Hao, Mr. Gao has not married all these years; he is waiting for you."
I was taken aback, staring at her in shock. "What did you say?"
Aunt Zhang sighed and spoke softly, "When you left the the Gao Family, Mr. Gao searched everywhere for you, nearly turning Xingcheng upside down..."
"...Later, Madam Gao chose someone else, and Mr. Gao refused to marry. The master had no choice but to arrange an engagement for him."
"But Mr. Gao said that unless it was Miss Hao, he wouldn't marry anyone else."
The master couldn't go against him, so he let him be.
I listened in a daze, my heart filled with mixed emotions. Aunt Zhang continued to persuade me for a long time, and I learned that Gao Huaizhong's father had kept a mistress outside, and even after his death, that woman still came to take advantage of the situation.

I nodded, watching him warily. The young man took a letter from his pocket and handed it to me. When I opened it, I recognized my father's handwriting.
"A Jing:
Seeing this letter feels like meeting you in person.
Dad is going to a faraway place and may not return for a long time.
Do not be sad or afraid; someone will take care of you in my stead.
His name is Gao Huaizhong, and he is my disciple.
I trust him, and you should trust him too."
