Horror in Medical School

Everyone knows that places like the Morgue in a medical school easily evoke thoughts of ghosts and those things that human science cannot explain. Therefore, students in the medical school are very cautious about mentioning the word "ghost." At Yijiang University, almost all students go to the Morgue in large groups. 0

"Better to believe it exists than not." 0

"Yiqian, do you believe it?" Linyuan seemed intrigued as well. 0

There are those who believe in demons and those who do not. Rumors have circulated in the medical school that the Morgue is a passage to the underworld, which is why few are willing to visit it. Whether ghosts truly exist in this world remains unknown. 0

The Morgue at Yijiang University is located at the far end of the campus, and one can only reach it by passing through a forest. 0

"I’m afraid you won’t believe me, but even I can hardly believe it happened," Li Yiqian said, lowering her head. 0

"What do you mean? Have you seen a ghost?" Linyuan stood up and sat next to Li Yiqian. "What does a ghost look like? Tell us!" 0

"It's better not to mention ghosts; it's quite ominous," Du Xiaonan said, scanning every corner of the dormitory. 0

"I don't believe in them, so I’ll just treat it as a story," Linyuan insisted on seizing the opportunity to hear a "story." 0

Su Jin'er also seemed intrigued. People often say that places with heavy yin energy are where ghosts are most prevalent, and the Morgue is considered a passage to the underworld. Naturally, many ghost stories circulate in the medical school. Humans are contradictory beings; they are clearly afraid of ghosts yet still enjoy hearing ghost stories. Although Su Jin'er did not believe in them, she acknowledged that ghosts are formless, and to say she wasn't scared would be a lie. However, with nothing else to do at that moment, she decided to listen to the story. 0

"Actually, I have seen one, but I didn't see it clearly at the time. It was after our college entrance exams when a few classmates and I went out to celebrate finishing our exams. The incident happened on our way home. For some reason, that day was particularly dark; we could hardly see anything, as if there were thick fog everywhere, which felt very oppressive. At first, we thought it was just changing weather and didn't pay much attention. But when we passed through a grove of trees, we suddenly saw a woman walking towards us." Li Yiqian trembled all over as if she were back on that night, her face filled with terror. "No, rather than walking, it was more like floating," she suddenly said, gripping her hands tightly. 0

"Floating?" Linyuan exclaimed. 0

"And then what happened?" Jin'er asked. 0

"Later, we all thought we were seeing things, but when we looked closely, that woman had disappeared." 0

"You must have just imagined it; there can't be any ghosts. I was just joking," Du Xiaonan said with a smile, clearly forced. 0

"I thought it was just my imagination too, and we even joked about how no woman would be wandering around alone in such darkness. It must have been an illusion. But one of our classmates said, if it was just an illusion, how could everyone see the same thing?" Li Yiqian seemed to want to laugh but continued, "We saw her again the second time, and what was even stranger was that she was standing in a tree watching us." 0

Wait! Her words seemed contradictory! 0

"At first, you said the fog was so thick that you couldn't see anything. How could you see a woman approaching you? And when you saw her the second time, how could you see her standing in a tree watching you?" Su Jin'er asked. She had never believed in demons and thought people were scarier than ghosts. 0

"I found it strange at first too, and she was wearing a long red dress, as red as blood. The reason I said she was looking at us is that when I saw her the second time, I felt completely frozen, as if that coldness was coming from deep within my heart," Li Yiqian said, trembling as she looked at Jin'er in terror. 0

Knock knock— 0

"Who is it?" Linyuan asked reflexively. 0

"It must be a classmate calling us for military training," Jin'er said with a smile. 0

"Oh right! I almost forgot!" 0

The first thing upon entering college was military training. Good health is the foundation of revolution; only with good health can one study well. This was what the instructor said on the first day of military training. The content of their first day of military training was simple: practicing running and turning left and right on the playground. By the end of the day, they were exhausted, but the next day's military training content was even more unbearable. 0

"Tomorrow's military training is really giving me a headache!" Du Xiaonan said while drying her hair, clearly unhappy with the arrangements for tomorrow's training. 0

"Exactly! We're not going to be living in the wild anymore; why do we have to train deep in the mountains?" Linyuan pouted in dissatisfaction, twirling a strand of hair with one hand. 0

Su Jin'er laughed while typing on her notebook, saying, "Actually, I think this is great!" 0

"What's so good about it? I really don't want to go; I'm afraid of snakes! Just looking at those slimy creatures makes me uncomfortable." Linyuan frowned tightly. 0

"I feel the same way as Jin'er." 0

The next day, at five in the morning, the first batch of freshmen heading to Military Training gathered at the school gate. They were neatly lined up in the uniforms provided by the school, waiting for the bus to arrive. 0

Everyone's expressions varied—some were excited, some were scared, some were thrilled, some were dissatisfied, and others had no expression at all. Su Jin'er and her three friends stood at the back, with Linyuan gripping Su Jin'er's arm tightly, still complaining about the school's actions. Lin Yiqian and Du Xiaonan stood behind them, discussing what they should pay attention to during this Military Training. 0

The bus slowly pulled up to the school gate, and everyone entered in order. There were a total of 30 people going for this Military Training. Su Jin'er found a seat by the window, with Linyuan sitting next to her, while Lin Yiqian and Du Xiaonan sat in front of them. The bus quickly became noisy, drowning out the sound of the engine. Su Jin'er furrowed her brow as she looked at the unfamiliar faces filled with excitement or dissatisfaction, her thoughts drifting off to an unknown distance. 0

During middle school, because Dad and Mom were busy with work, she would be sent to her grandmother's house in the countryside every summer vacation. She preferred that warm-hearted village over the city. She remembered that every summer vacation, a boy named Qiangzi would take her to catch fish by the river. His skin was tanned from the sun, giving him a very healthy appearance, completely unlike the boys in the city who stayed indoors all day with fair and delicate skin. 0

Every summer vacation was her happiest time. Although her skin would turn wheat-colored from sun exposure each time, she felt that was when she was truly healthy. 0

In her first year of middle school, Jin'er returned to her grandmother's house and met Qiangzi. He was only twelve years old then; Qiangzi was a year older than her but was also in first grade due to starting school late in the countryside. When she first saw Qiangzi, he was very shy and didn't dare to look up. Jin'er remembered that Qiangzi spoke with a stutter back then; it took him several minutes to finish a sentence. 0

Thinking about their first meeting made Jin'er smile. 0

"How can you still smile when we're going to such a terrifying place for Military Training?" Linyuan looked at Su Jin'er in surprise, noticing her smile. 0

"I'm not! I just thought of someone." 0

"Who? Do I know them?" 0

Jin'er shook her head. Although she had been good friends with Linyuan since middle school, she didn't know Qiangzi from the countryside. 0

Linyuan seemed to forget where they were going and kept pulling on Jin'er, insisting she tell her who that person was. Feeling helpless under Linyuan's questioning, Jin'er could only say it was someone she met in the countryside. 0

Hearing that it was someone from the countryside, Linyuan became even more curious about what kind of person could make the usually quiet Jin'er suddenly smile. 0

The car drove steadily forward, and the people inside seemed to forget their fears, chatting with their new friends about all sorts of topics. 0

"What kind of person is it?" Linyuan persistently asked. 0

Jin'er thought for a moment and replied, "He's a very shy boy." 0

"A boy!" Linyuan exclaimed, her mouth agape. Although she had guessed it was a boy, she still pretended to be surprised. 0

Su Jin'er didn't feel embarrassed by this; she nodded and said, "He's a really interesting boy. The first time I met him, he was nervously fiddling with the hem of his shirt and couldn't look at me, his face was as red as a sunset. It made me think I must look scary and frightened him!" 0

"No way! How come I haven't met someone like that?" 0

"Right!" Du Xiaonan turned around to look at Jin'er and said. 0

"He's a really interesting boy. Every time I go to my grandmother's house, he takes me to the river to catch fish and loaches, then wraps them in mud and cooks them over the fire." 0

"Do you dare to eat that?" 0

Jin'er shook her head. "At first, I didn't dare to eat it, but he kept saying it was delicious and encouraged me to try it. My grandmother also urged me, so in the end, I did eat it. It was really tasty! There was no fishy smell at all; it was very fragrant." 0

"I didn't expect you had such experiences, Jin'er!" Du Xiaonan said in surprise. In her eyes, Jin'er seemed like someone who had never faced hardship, a sheltered flower that needed protection. 0

"I really like rural life," Jin'er said with a smile. "If I could, I would prefer to live in the countryside." 0

"So many people are fighting to get into the city, yet you actually like such a poor place in the countryside," Li Yiqian said somewhat resentfully. 0

"Poor? Not at all! I think it's great!" 0

For a moment, Su Jin'er seemed to catch a glimpse of hatred in Li Yiqian's eyes. Although she tried hard to hide it, it did not escape Su Jin'er's notice. She always felt that this girl had some untold secrets. 0

Not wanting to continue the topic, Su Jin'er turned her face toward the window. The school was no longer visible, as it was located in a remote area. The place for Military Training was not far from the school, but from the moment they left, she felt a vague sense of unease, sensing that something was off, yet unable to pinpoint what it was. 0

Trees began to appear outside, and Su Jin'er knew they had entered the mountains. With the car windows sealed, the air inside was difficult to circulate, and she felt her breathing becoming increasingly labored. 0

I really want to get out of the car. This was her only thought at that moment; the stifling air made her uncomfortable. 0

Although it was already September, the weather remained hot and humid. Fortunately, it was still morning, and the sun had not yet risen. The sky, which should have been blue, now appeared pale and unsettling. 0

"Students, we have arrived. Please gather your belongings and prepare to disembark," the coach's voice suddenly came from the front. 0

Looking at the lush trees outside, her feeling of unease intensified. What exactly was wrong? She remained anxiously seated, her somewhat dazed face faintly reflected in the car window. 0

"Jin'er, we're getting off. What are you daydreaming about?" Linyuan's voice came from behind her. 0

She snapped back to reality and smiled as she replied, "Okay!" 0
