She is the most lecherous princess in the world, not only secretly meeting with men in front of her husband but also making him kneel beside her to serve.
After enduring long-term abuse, her husband finally killed her.
She is Princess Liu Xiande of Yincheng.
On a certain day in the year 130 AD, a piercing scream suddenly echoed through the Dingyuan Marquis Residence in Chang'an. The sound was exceptionally jarring in the usually quiet mansion, and when the family members traced the source, they found it coming from Consort Ban Shi's bedroom.
Upon opening the door, they were shocked to see Consort Ban Shi holding a blade, blood dripping from it as it flowed onto the floor, sending chills down their spines.
Not far away, on the large bed, lay the lifeless body of Princess Liu Xiande, blood pooling around her.
Liu Xiande was the granddaughter of Emperor Zhang of Han, Liu Zhi.
Her father, Liu Qing, was originally the crown prince but was framed by Emperor Zhang of Han's Empress Dou during palace struggles and was instead titled Prince Qinghe.
Fortunately, the new crown prince, who would later become Emperor Han He, Liu Zhao, was very friendly with his brother. They had a close and respectful relationship.
Emperor Han He would consult Liu Qing on matters, and Liu Qing held great respect and trust for him. Thus, they plotted together to take revenge on their common enemy, Dowager Empress Dou, eliminating the arrogant and overbearing relatives.
During Emperor Han He's reign of over a decade, Prince Qinghe's Mansion enjoyed great prosperity. Emperor Han He was a wise and virtuous ruler but unfortunately passed away at the young age of 27.
His successor, Liu Long, died just eight months after birth, making him historically the youngest and shortest-reigning emperor.
After Han Shangdi, although Emperor Han He had other sons, due to high infant mortality rates previously, most of his sons were sent to be raised by commoners.
Emperor Han He's empress, Deng Sui, after much consideration, decided to establish Liu He’s son Liu Bao as emperor, known as Emperor Shun of Han.
From then on, the throne returned to the Liu Qing lineage.
Liu Xiande was also conferred the title of princess, making her part of the royal family.
More than a decade ago, the Ban Family was a prominent family during the Eastern Han Dynasty, especially during the time of Ban Chao.
In his early years, Ban Chao took up arms and was sent to the Western Regions. He worked diligently in the region for decades, bringing dozens of countries under the rule of the Han Dynasty. Ban Chao himself was granted the title of Dingyuan Marquis, achieving great success and fame.
After the Han Dynasty, its successors changed the previous policy of appeasement to one of harsh taxation and oppression against various nations, leading to turmoil in the border regions. Ban Shi's father, Ban Xiong, and uncle, Ban Yong, returned to the historical stage. They were appointed by the emperor, allowing the Han Dynasty to reestablish its control over various nations, which soon stabilized. Ban Xiong was promoted from a military officer to the position of Jingzhao Yin, and the Ban Family continued to enjoy wealth and prosperity.
At that time, the Ban Family formed a marital alliance with Prince Qinghe's Mansion. Although it did not carry the same prestige as marrying into a royal family, it was still considered a prominent and wealthy household.
During the ten years of Han An Emperor's reign, Ban Xiong remained relatively healthy, and Qinghe Princess behaved herself. Although she occasionally bossed her husband around at home, she still showed him respect in public.
After Han An Emperor's death, Emperor Shun of Han ascended to the throne. Naturally, the Ban Family became close associates of the current emperor, their status rising in prominence. However, at this time, Yincheng Princess began to show signs of restlessness.
First, her father-in-law Ban Xiong passed away. Although her husband Ban Shi inherited his position, their foundation was unstable. Soon after, in the second year of Emperor Shun's reign, there were changes in the Western Regions. Ban Shi's uncle Ban Yong submitted a request for additional troops to attack North Road.
In court, Dunhuang Governor Zhang Lang led 3,000 soldiers from four counties in Hexi to assist Ban Yong. Ban Yong gathered over 40,000 soldiers from the Western Regions and divided them into two routes. Zhang Lang would lead his troops along South Road while Ban Yong would take North Road, agreeing to meet on a specified date. However, Zhang Lang had previously committed an offense and sought to redeem himself by seizing credit; thus he launched an attack before Ban Yong arrived and killed over 2,000 captives.
Due to his disobedience leading to failure, Zhang Lang was later pardoned despite his actions. However, Ban Yong was falsely accused and subsequently pardoned as well. From then on, life became difficult for the Ban Family; it would not be an exaggeration to say they fell into decline.
Amidst this change, Yincheng Princess began to indulge herself due to her noble status.
Initially, Yincheng Princess was still cautious about concealing her behavior. However, seeing that Ban Shi did not react much made her feel less restrained.
Although Ban Shi felt frustrated under pressure from his wife’s noble status and their family's declining situation, he dared not voice his anger or resistance due to his lack of power.
One day, she was fooling around in her room and unexpectedly called Ban Shi inside, making Ban Shi kneel by the bed to watch the "live broadcast."
This was something that Uncle could tolerate, but Aunt could not. Humiliated to such an extent, Ban Shi could no longer hold back and angrily killed her.
According to the "Book of the Later Han, Volume 47, Biographies of the Ban Family," it is recorded: "The aunt of Shun Emperor, Princess Yincheng, was proud and indulgent, living with her favorite in the chamber, and summoned Shi to enter, making him hide under the bed. Shi accumulated anger and, in the fifth year of Yongjian, drew his blade and killed the princess."
After killing the princess, the matter escalated. Although Yincheng Princess had acted outrageously, regardless of the circumstances, killing a princess was a grave crime punishable by extermination of the entire family, except for the emperor.
The declining Ban Family could no longer bear such a significant risk.
Upon learning of this incident, Emperor Shun of Han was furious. He did not take into account the merits of the Ban Family's ancestors and directly ordered that Ban Shi be executed by slicing in half and displayed in public.
Other members of the Ban Family were not spared either; they were all executed.
Looking back at events during the time of the Ban Family, I can only say that marital relationships have always been a challenge throughout history. Disharmony between spouses is like a ticking time bomb; even today, news of spousal murders frequently surfaces.
We can only understand certain aspects through text; only those involved can truly convey their feelings at that time.
It is a pity for Ban Chao, Ban Gu, and their sister Ban Zhao. They were all prominent figures during the Eastern Han period and made significant contributions to the Han dynasty in their respective fields.
Because of this incident, the Ban Family withdrew from the stage of history, disappearing into the dust of time.
