The Vietnam War is one of the most influential wars in the world after World War II, marking a large-scale regional conflict during the Cold War.
This war ultimately ended with North Vietnam's victory and the retreat of the United States, leading to the unification of Vietnam. During the war, many strange rumors and stories emerged.
One peculiar report I came across during my research is about a humanoid flying creature known as the Winged Woman, which was reported during the Vietnam War.
As the name suggests, the Winged Woman can be simply described as a woman with wings. In various media, it is also referred to as the Black Winged Woman, Glowing Woman, Black Winged Being, and others.
There is only one sighting report concerning this creature.
In a historical case review of UFOs dated June 10, 1972, there is an investigation report from American UFO researcher Donald Worley. The report collected witness testimonies in a question-and-answer format.
The incident occurred on a night in July or August of 1969, around 1:00 to 1:30 AM, near the defensive perimeter close to Da Nang in Vietnam.
At that time, truck driver Morrison, who was part of the First Marine Division, along with two comrades, was on guard in a bunker when they suddenly felt something unusual. All three instinctively looked up at the sky and saw a figure slowly approaching them.
Morrison's exact words were: "She radiated a kind of glow. At first, we couldn't tell what it was. She began to move closer to us, and suddenly we saw wings like those of a bat, but they were significantly larger than an ordinary bat."
When it got close enough for them to see clearly, it appeared to be a woman—a naked woman with black skin and a black body. Her wings were also black; everything about her was black, yet she emitted light—a green glow in the pitch-black night.
Worley then asked Morrison some additional questions.
To summarize, this being resembled a bat but simultaneously possessed human female characteristics. It emitted a faint green light that allowed it to be seen even in darkness and stood approximately 6 to 7 feet tall.
Its wings are large, extending from the shoulders down to the knees, and beneath the wings are arms similar to those of a human.
The creature is covered in fine fur, with both hair and skin being black. However, unlike Black individuals, its hair is not curly but straight, resembling that of a Caucasian. The female characteristics, including those of the chest and legs, are very pronounced.
Witnesses describe her as a rather mature woman, yet she is completely naked. Her flying speed is not fast; she seems to float in the air. According to Morrison's description, this creature blocked out the moonlight for about ten seconds. When the creature was approximately ten feet away from them, they heard the sound of its wings flapping.
The entire sighting lasted about three to four minutes until the creature flew toward their camp and disappeared from view.
During this time, they did not smell anything unusual or hear any calls. In their panic, several even forgot to draw their weapons.
After the incident, the three contacted the next outpost in the direction the creature had flown to ask if they had seen anything in the sky, but received a response of no; they were asked what they were talking about.
The next day, they reported the incident to their deputy commander and superior officer but were ignored.
According to Morrison, the three confirmed among themselves that they had nearly reached a consensus on the characteristics of the creature they saw.
This incident stands out among many supernatural events during the Vietnam War for two reasons: first, all witnesses were adults, lending significant credibility to their perception of the creature; second, it differed from previous sightings of flying unknown entities—such as Swan Man, Owlman, and Ahu—in that it was uniquely observed with such obvious human traits.
In the extraterrestrial animal art villa where British paranormal researchers Janet Bord and Kleinbold reside, this sighting was compared with other unidentified flying entities.
The original text states that while some reports describe certain humanoid beings as human, in reality, none of the witnesses truly saw any human features.
In light of this, we suspect that the so-called Birdman should more accurately be referred to as Humanoid Bird, and we cannot definitively determine its gender.
However, the sighting incident definitely does not belong to this category.
