My body stiffened slightly, and I turned back in disbelief, slowly sinking into despair after encountering Wang Xu's bewildering gaze.
"What were you doing?" Wang Xu seemed to be deliberately suppressing his emotions. He easily turned red when agitated, and at that moment, it looked like he was about to cry.
I suddenly felt guilty and forgot to think about why Wang Xu was here wearing casual clothes at this time.
"I just had dinner with Miao Miao and just got back." I wasn't lying about that.
Wang Xu sneered at my answer, glaring at me in anger. "Mu Miaomiao? You say you went out to eat with Mu Miaomiao, then who was the man driving? Where is Mu Miaomiao? Why wasn't she in the car?"

Wang Xu scoffed, showing no intention of leaving. He stared at me with dissatisfaction, as if trying to see right through me.
"Are you embarrassed by me? Is it because I couldn't afford to let you ride in a million-dollar car that you're embarrassed?"
Speaking of this, I felt uncomfortable too. Did I really enjoy living in a house that cost 1.2 million bought outright by Deng Xiaomei?
"Yeah, it's embarrassing," I replied bitterly. "I’m living in a mortgaged house; I’m really embarrassing."
It seemed that my words infuriated Wang Xu, and he didn't think of anything else. Upon hearing me say "embarrassing," he nearly went crazy and shouted, "Zhuang Jun, I never thought you would become like this! Tell me, who is that man? Are you cheating on me?"
I was so angry that I laughed, pointing at my own nose and questioning him, "Wang Xu, are you accusing me of cheating?"
Wang Xu's face turned red as he looked at me with pure hatred. "You've been caught; what else can you argue about?"
He suddenly appeared to have an epiphany and continued, "No wonder you've been so paranoid lately. I wondered why you became so strange; it turns out you've already found someone else and are just waiting to slander me so I’ll file for divorce, right?"
"What?" I stared blankly at the aggressive Wang Xu. "You said divorce? Is that really how you want to end things with me?"
At that moment, Wang Xu's expression suddenly fell. He paused, perhaps not expecting me to care so much about this, and explained, "Zhuang Jun, that's not what I meant."
"Then what do you mean?"
Even with so much evidence at hand, I still clung desperately to the last straw. I was terrified that my beautiful life would just vanish into thin air.
I was so afraid that I didn't even dare to think of those two words. Yet Wang Xu spoke them so easily; had he practiced saying them many times?
"You've been acting so strangely these past few days, and then suddenly you come back in a luxury car worth millions, just the two of you inside. What were you saying to each other before you got out? You looked so happy. How am I supposed to think about this, Zhuang Jun? I'm just worried and scared."
Wang Xu spoke with such sincerity that it almost made me believe him. He looked deeply into my eyes with the gaze of a lover.
I tried to calm my emotions; my mind was filled with too many thoughts, teetering on the brink of explosion. I couldn't find a way to release it, and I was very concerned.
"Then tell me first." At this point, my heart ached.
"What?" Wang Xu looked confused.
I reached out my hand and pointed behind him. In the dim light was a winding path made of gravel.
"Just now," I struggled to suppress the tremor in my voice, but tears still fell uselessly: "Who is the woman in black who walked past you?"
Wang Xu's face turned pale.
As I took a step toward him, he stepped back. I advanced, and he retreated, as if this had become the main theme between us during this time.
"Go home and change your clothes."
Wang Xu remained silent, pursing his lips.
"Why did you come out? You didn’t buy anything, just wandering in the park? With whom?"
At that moment, as I turned my head, I saw a woman hurriedly passing by behind Wang Xu. Who was she?
"You never take walks, saying work is exhausting. So why am I seeing you here? Why am I seeing you here?" I nearly shouted at Wang Xu, tears streaming down my face, overwhelmed by a sense of grievance that felt like it would crush me.
Why was Wang Xu behaving so unusually here, accompanying someone to do things he had never done before? I knew deep down but felt powerless.
"Wife, what are you doing? I just came out for a walk. Don't get upset, please don't get upset." Wang Xu rushed over to hug me. I struggled fiercely against him; his grip was strong and he wouldn’t let go.
"Wife, wife, let’s go home." Wang Xu held me tightly and dragged me back toward home.
I pressed against his chest, tears falling endlessly. From beginning to end, I craved this embrace, yet when he held me, it no longer provided the security it once did.
In the end, I found myself lost on the path of marriage and had lost my sense of safety.
Wang Xu opened the door and gently placed me by the bed. He kept holding me without letting go. He sat beside me, wiping my face with his hands in a haphazard manner while softly trying to comfort me.
I didn’t say a word; I pushed Wang Xu away and curled up on the edge of the bed. Wang Xu came over, pulled the blanket over me snugly, adjusted the air conditioning temperature, and then squatted down in front of me.
"Dear, I'm going to sleep in the guest room. You should rest."
Wang Xu stood up to leave, and I instinctively grabbed his hand. He paused halfway, looking at me in surprise.
I knew my actions must seem ridiculous right now, but the moment Wang Xu said he was leaving, all I could think about was where he was going. I was afraid that if he walked out of my sight, he would never come back.
"Don't go."
In the end, Wang Xu stayed because of me. As he showed a hesitant expression, I recklessly pushed aside the blanket he had covered me with, wrapped my arms around his neck, and leaned in for a kiss.
My actions were almost frantic; thoughts of wanting a child swirled in my mind. Tears blurred my vision, and the impulse within me became more transparent.
I needed to have a child with Wang Xu.
The intertwining of our bodies heightened my excitement. Unlike our usual encounters, this time my madness erupted with sweat and soft gasps, taking control of everything. Looking into Wang Xu's dazed eyes beneath me, I could clearly see his lingering affection for me.
I nearly bit my lip in anticipation. After a soft whimper, I melted into Wang Xu's embrace, pressing against his warm chest. The rhythmic beating of his heart gradually calmed me down.
If you keep secrets from me, I'll keep secrets from myself too. In this way, will we be the most suitable version of ourselves?
