Chen Weidong suddenly grabbed my hand, “Xuanbao, you have to believe me, I don’t like her.” I shook off his hand and said, “Chen Weidong, you don’t need to explain anything to me; your feelings have nothing to do with me anymore.” “I’m leaving now.” After I finished packing, I said goodbye to him.
Gu XIng and a few colleagues wanted to come over to my house to hang out. I didn’t refuse; it was a good opportunity to gather together. I also invited Ma Yuan to help since I'm still a novice and not very good at cooking. Gu XIng switched the alcohol I wanted for drinks, and when the others saw this, they exchanged glances and stopped trying to persuade me.
The meal was lively, everyone laughed and joked around. I had no idea that these people from the office could be so lively in private. Gu XIng also took off his aloof mask and joined in on the fun with everyone.
Looking at them, I smiled, feeling a happiness I had never experienced during this time. Time passed quickly, and they left one after another. I accompanied them downstairs, reluctantly saying goodbye.
On the way home, I caught a glimpse of Chen Weidong in my peripheral vision. He didn't look back and went straight home. I went to the hospital to get the biopsy report; the results were good—it was benign. However, it was a bit large, and surgery was recommended.
In the hospital corridor, I saw Chen Weidong again. Our eyes met, but I was the first to look away and turned to leave. Goodbye, Chen Weidong; it seemed like it didn't hurt as much as before.
After the surgery, Gu Xing took great care of me. I noticed that the people around me were acting strangely, subtly trying to matchmake me with Gu Xing. I felt a headache coming on and retorted casually, "He comes over every day; he's just a jerk too."
Everyone fell silent, their gazes toward Gu Xing carrying more meaning. I didn't mention the surgery to them and just found a random caregiver. However, when I woke up from the operating room and saw Gu Xing sitting beside me, I was startled.
"What are you doing here?"
"Why didn't you tell me about your surgery? I was worried; I'm going to keep an eye on you from now on."
"Aren't there still many things at the company? I brought my laptop so you can work."
I was speechless. " President Gu, a boss who exploits his employees like this won't succeed."
During my hospital stay, Gu Xing took me downstairs for walks every day. He bought roasted sweet potatoes from somewhere, and when he brought them back, the aroma filled the air. I couldn't help but swallow hard.
He handed me half of it, saying, "Try it."
I took a bite; it was soft and sticky, delicious.
He laughed at me, "You act like a child, getting so happy over a sweet potato."
"Mind your own business."
I shot him a glare and noticed the faint smile at the corner of his mouth, momentarily taken aback.
He didn't often smile, but when he did, he looked really good.
When we reached the door of the hospital room, Secretary Zhang was standing there. Upon seeing us return, her eyes lit up.
It seemed she was waiting for me.
Gu Xing seemed to want to say something, but I patted him on the shoulder and said, "You should head back first."
Secretary Zhang looked at me, her face filled with sorrow.
"Miss Li, I know it's unfair to you that I'm with Wei Dong, but I really like him."
"Can you stop clinging to him? We're very happy together."
If I didn't know she was the mistress, her performance would make me think she was the legitimate wife confronting the mistress.
I forced a smile and said, "Secretary Zhang, I've known Chen Weidong for sixteen years and we've been in a relationship for ten years; we were planning to get married."
"You've seen me."
"I even sent you videos and photos."
"This was all planned by you, wasn't it?"
Secretary Zhang's face turned pale instantly, her eyes filled with panic.
"You've seen me and know my relationship with Chen Weidong, so you accepted those photos and videos and used them to climb into Chen Weidong's bed."
"Secretary Zhang, I've already broken up with Chen Weidong. You've gotten what you wanted; don't show up in front of me again."
Secretary Zhang froze for a moment, her expression turning vicious. "You better mean what you say."
After speaking, she turned on her heels and walked away.
