Chapter Four Zhang Family 0

“What does Zhang Family mean?” Wang Jinghan asked with wide eyes. 0

“Um…” Zhang Qiu hesitated for a moment; it seemed he had never mentioned this to outsiders before. With Wang Jinghan asking, he was unsure whether to tell her. It wasn't that this matter was a big secret or that he didn't trust her. Rather, it seemed that no one had ever cared about it, let alone brought it up. After thinking for a while, Zhang Qiu decided to tell her and asked, “Do you know Zhang Zuolin?” 0

“I know, the warlord,” Wang Jinghan blurted out. 0

Zhang Qiu smiled helplessly; many people's understanding of history came from snippets in textbooks, which were often just fragments for certain needs or taken out of context. When mentioning Zhang Zuolin, many people only remembered him as a warlord, nothing more. 0

Zhang Qiu said, “Zhang Zuolin and I were once family; my ancestor Zhang Honglin, they were brothers. Zhang Honglin's original name was Zhang Zuohua, which he later changed to Zhang Honglin.” 0

“Wasn't he from Northeast China?” Wang Jinghan vaguely recalled snippets mentioned in textbooks. 0

“He went to Northeast China later; his ancestral home is in our H Province,” Zhang Qiu explained. “Now you understand why my dad has clashed with so many people. Besides dignity, it's also because the blood of the Zhang Family flows in our veins.” 0

Wang Jinghan nodded thoughtfully. 0

“Actually, Zhang Zuolin wasn't as bad as what's written in textbooks. He immersed himself in the underworld, took down Sea Sand, gathered a group of brothers, and maneuvered between the two great powers of Russo-Japanese. Not only did he protect Northeast China, but he also became the highest leader. How impressive!” Zhang Qiu's eyes sparkled with admiration for his predecessor as he spoke. 0

“Isn't the highest leader Chiang Kai-shek?” Wang Jinghan looked confused. 0

“That was later. The government of the Republic of China was unstable, and leaders appeared one after another. Zhang Zuolin also served as a national leader for a time, holding the title of Grand Marshal of the Army, Navy, and Air Force of the Republic of China,” Zhang Qiu explained. 0

“Oh, I see.” Wang Jinghan resolved in her heart to buy a few books on history to read. 0

“It’s a pity; after Zhang Zuolin died, Zhang Xueliang lost Northeast China,” Zhang Qiu lamented. 0

"Do you still have contact with them?" Wang Jinghan asked a question that piqued her interest. 0

"We occasionally have contact with Zhang Zuolin's descendants. However, he is currently in the United States. I heard his father graduated from the University of California and is a renowned aerospace expert. Before retiring, he was a senior engineer at NASA, quite impressive," Zhang Qiu replied. 0

"That's great, you even have foreign relatives," Wang Jinghan said with a smile. 0

Zhang Qiu waved her hand and said, "It's just a matter of blood relation; we rarely keep in touch. It's been over a hundred years, and a simple life is quite good." 0

Wang Jinghan nodded in understanding. After all, it had been a hundred years; during her time working in the hospital, she had witnessed many farewells. Just a few days ago, an elderly man was brought in by his children, who then "disappeared." 0

The two finished their meal quickly. Wang Jinghan still needed to go to work, and Zhang Qiu had to attend school as well. Wang Jinghan called over the previous waitress. Zhang Qiu insisted on paying the bill and took the packed food in her hands as they both left. 0

Once outside, Wang Jinghan pointed to one side and said, "Let's go over there; there's a deli where we can buy some pork knuckles for my uncle." 0

"Okay," Zhang Qiu replied, following Wang Jinghan. 0

After buying two pork knuckles from the deli, they returned to the hospital. Since Wang Jinghan had to work, she didn't accompany Zhang Qiu any further. When they parted ways, Zhang Qiu said, "Let's add each other on QQ. I didn't have a phone or even a QQ number back in middle school." 0

"Sure, what's your number?" 0

"1174660," Zhang Qiu provided her number. 0

They added each other on QQ, and Zhang Qiu expressed her gratitude once again; Wang Jinghan had really helped her out today. 0

After parting ways, Zhang Qiu returned to her hospital room. Pushing the door open, she raised the items in her hands and said, "Dad, Mom, it's time to eat! I also bought some pork knuckles to supplement Dad." As she spoke, she set up the table on the hospital bed and placed the food on it. 0

"This child spends money recklessly. Haven't you two spent enough?" Zhang Zhi Hua scolded lightly, but inside she felt warm. 0
"Enough, enough, just eat," Zhang Qiu said with a smile. 0

"Son," He Mei looked at Zhang Qiu. 0

"What's wrong, Mom?" Zhang Qiu noticed that He Mei's gaze was different from usual. 0

He Mei smiled and said, "Your dad and I discussed it, and this girl seems nice. If you both want to be together, your dad and I won't oppose it. But you must not neglect your studies!" 0

Zhang Qiu was speechless and replied, "What are you talking about? She's just my classmate who came to see you after hearing you were in the hospital. What are you thinking?" 0

He Mei shook her head, "The way you look at her doesn't seem like just a classmate." 0

Zhang Zhi Hua added, "Your mom and I have been through this. We won't stop you, but you need to remember that your studies come first." 0

Zhang Qiu thought to himself, have I revealed something? Regardless of whether he had or not, discussing this with his parents always made him feel awkward. He hurriedly said, "Dad, Mom, just eat your meal." 0

He Mei and Zhang Zhi Hua exchanged glances and laughed. 0
