Chapter Eight: Why Are the Police Looking for Me? 0

Every morning, children dressed in school uniforms can be seen walking in groups along the streets of Beilan County Town, heading towards Beiluan No. 1 High School like rivers flowing into the sea. 0

Zhang Qiu's home is not far from the school, and it takes just ten minutes to reach it by electric vehicle. At this early hour, there are few pedestrians on the road, and cars are even rarer, allowing him to accelerate without worry and reach school as quickly as possible. 0

Zhang Qiu parked his electric vehicle in front of the school and took out his Desert AU Backpack from the front basket. There was a time when he was particularly fascinated by military life, which led him to develop a habit of using a camouflage bag. His backpack often contained a textbook, a notebook, and a bottle of water. 0

As soon as he entered the teaching building, he was hit by a smell created by the crowd gathering without proper ventilation. Zhang Qiu wrinkled his nose but eventually got used to it after a while. Walking through the hallway, he noticed that many classes were nearly full. He silently celebrated that Zhao Guohong had followed the school's requirement to arrive by 5:50 AM. Unlike those classes where the homeroom teacher demanded everyone be there five minutes earlier—what a nightmare! 0

Once he sat down at his desk in the classroom, Zhang Qiu took out "64 Must-Know Ancient Poems for College Entrance Examination," spread a piece of paper beside him, and began to read and copy it. Before long, drowsiness washed over him. He wanted to ask his deskmate Wang Zhengxiang to cover for him and wake him up when the teacher arrived. However, he found that his deskmate had already fallen asleep before him. 0

Zhang Qiu smiled helplessly and tried hard not to doze off. But his mind was already foggy; it felt like he was dreaming. He could hear the teacher lecturing clearly in front of him, but when he realized he was about to fall asleep and suddenly woke up, he found that the Chinese teacher was sitting at the podium just watching them without saying anything or teaching. 0

Zhang Qiu continued to look ahead as his vision gradually blurred... 0

"Stand up!" 0

Zhang Qiu jolted awake and turned to see his deskmate already standing up while the Chinese teacher stood beside their desks staring at him. Zhang Qiu slowly stood up as well, keeping his head down and avoiding eye contact with the teacher. 0

The Chinese teacher tapped on the desk and said, "With your eyes wide open like that, it's almost time for college entrance exams—pay attention!" 0

Only a few scattered voices responded to her. 0

"Did everyone hear that?" the language teacher asked again. 0

"We heard it." This time, the response was much louder. 0

Zhang Qiu watched as the language teacher returned to her seat. The new language teacher was named Xu Qing Chu. He really couldn't understand why they had to replace the language teacher for the graduating class. The previous teacher had taught well, and most importantly, during self-study periods, he could sneak in a little nap. 0

After Xu Qing Chu sat down, Zhang Qiu exchanged a glance with Wang Zhengxiang and sighed about their bad luck. Standing for a while, feeling sleepy but unable to rest, was simply torturous. What made Zhang Qiu feel even worse was that without the chance to catch up on sleep during the early self-study period, he would definitely struggle through the first class in a daze. And coincidentally, the first class was Language Class. Zhang Qiu lamented, "Looks like I'm going to suffer in language class today." 0

After the early self-study period ended, Jiang Xue came to find Zhang Qiu to have lunch together. Zhang Qiu, feeling lethargic, said, "I won't eat breakfast today; I'm too sleepy. I need to rest for a bit." 0

Jiang Xue nodded and replied, "Alright, then I'll bring you back a steamed bun." 0

After Jiang Xue left, Zhang Qiu took off his outer jacket and laid it on the desk, resting his head on it for a short break. He felt like he had only slept for a few minutes when he opened his eyes and realized it was already time for morning reading. Suddenly, Zhang Qiu remembered a joke he had read in a magazine: "The most dangerous thing is turning off your alarm clock and closing your eyes again. This is currently humanity's only feasible method of time travel; just close your eyes for five seconds and you can reach the future." With the loud reading voices in the classroom, Zhang Qiu could no longer sleep and had no choice but to join in. 0

At the beginning of Language Class, Xu Qing Chu handed out three worksheets. Upon receiving them, Zhang Qiu skimmed through the questions; they were all specialized practice questions modeled after college entrance exam formats. 0

Xu Qing Chu said, "You will work on these three worksheets first. If you don't finish them, complete them after class; we will discuss them in the next lesson. Make sure to prepare well for the idiom questions; not only do you need to select the correct options, but you also need to understand their explanations. Alright, begin." 0

Zhang Qiu spread out the worksheets and started working on the first question while checking the dictionary as he went along. Suddenly, both doors of the classroom were pushed open simultaneously by several uniformed police officers. Zhang Qiu noticed that Director Zhao was also among those who entered with the police. 0

Xu Qing Chu was taken aback by the scene before her; she stood up and looked at Director Zhao, asking, "Director, what's going on?" 0

Director Zhao cleared his throat and said to Xu Qing Chu, "Comrade Police has something to discuss; they need to find a student. Please cooperate." He then gestured toward the police officers invitingly. 0

A police officer stepped forward, showed his identification, and looked at Xu Qing Chu, asking, "Zhang Qiu is in your class, right?" 0

Upon hearing this, Zhang Qiu was startled! Why was the police looking for him? 0
