I nodded slightly. "It's true."
"You... you've already let me go?"
I was silent for a moment, then nodded again. "Yes, I have let go."
Fang Bo smiled bitterly. "So, I have become your past."
"Fang Bo, I..." I wanted to comfort him, but I didn't know what to say.
"Xiao Lan, when did you get married? Who is he? How did you meet?" my mother asked in one breath.
I replied calmly, "During my time abroad, he was with me. He treated me well, and we loved each other, so we decided to be together."
In truth, when I first went abroad, I couldn't let go of Fang Bo at all. During that time, I lived in my own world, isolating myself and not interacting with anyone. Until one day, after I fell seriously ill, I came to a realization.
People must look forward and not dwell on the past. So, I decided to let go of Fang Bo and start anew. It was from that moment on that I slowly began to accept Sun Yang's kindness towards me.
I once asked Sun Yang why he treated me so well. He said, "Being good to you is my choice; it doesn't need any reason."
Sun Yang stayed by my side until I completely let go of Fang Bo. Then we fell in love.
In those years, I gradually emerged from the shadows of the past, and life became more fulfilling. However, I always missed my hometown and my family. Eventually, I made up my mind to return home.
I didn't tell my family; instead, I directly brought Sun Yang back to my hometown city.
The reason I chose this city is that, first, it is my hometown, and second, it is where Dong Chen and Fang Bo are. I need to come back to face them and confront the past. So, I returned.
I took Sun Yang to the the Dong Family, the the Qiao, and also to the engagement ceremony of Fang Bo and Dong Chen. But I didn't expect that Sun Yang would follow me here. Even more surprising was that he appeared right when I needed him the most. Sun Yang has been really good to me.
"Dong Lan, let's go home," Sun Yang said gently.
"Okay," I replied with a smile and nodded. I held Sun Yang's hand, said goodbye to everyone, and then left the hospital.
As I stepped out of the hospital, I glanced back. On the steps at the entrance stood Dong Hui. He was staring at me with a complicated expression. I waved at him and turned away.
In the following days, Sun Yang and I explored the city thoroughly, including visits to the the Dong Family. My parents kept trying to inquire about my life abroad, but perhaps because we had only recently reconnected, their concern felt somewhat awkward and distant. As for Dong Hui, he remained silent but no longer pressured me as he had before. Perhaps he had come to understand some things or felt that Sun Yang was more suitable for Dong Lan than I was.
A few days later, after leaving Moonlit Pavilion with Sun Yang, we ran into Fang Bo and his group of friends. Fang Bo had been discharged from the hospital. It seemed that these friends were there to pick him up.
"Xiao Lan, nice to see you again!" they greeted me.
I smiled and nodded, "What a coincidence."
"Since we have such a connection, how about we go out for a meal together?" someone suggested.
"Today Fang Bo is being discharged from the hospital; let's celebrate with him!"
"Yeah, let's do it!" everyone chimed in.
"No, thank you," I declined. "My boyfriend doesn't like crowds."
Upon hearing this, Fang Bo's friends were momentarily taken aback, then awkwardly smiled.
"Haha, that's fine; we'll get together another time!"
"Yes, let's have a meal together next time!"
I waved goodbye to them and left with Sun Yang.
On the way to the airport, I received many messages from friends.
They were all sending their blessings to me.
There were also a few photos of Fang Bo at the entrance of Moonlit Pavilion.
In the pictures, Fang Bo was beaming with joy, and his friends looked very happy.
I smiled lightly, deleted all the messages, and left this city with Sun Yang.
