"No, this is our last time coming," Amy suddenly said seriously.
Nick, Puppet dad Jack, and Puppet Mother Laura all stopped what they were doing and looked at Amy.
"Why?" Nick asked in confusion.
"There's no specific reason, I just feel like something is off here," Amy said firmly.
Marionette Laura revealed a smile with a warning undertone and said, "Child, this world is just like this, full of unknowns and wonders. Perhaps you should relax a bit and not be too suspicious." However, Amy's intuition told her that this so-called "fantasy world" was not as simple as it seemed on the surface.
Amy glanced at Puppet Jack, only to see his expression still so stiff, as if something was weighing heavily on his mind.
"Nick, we should go," Amy finally made a decision.
Nick was a bit disappointed, but decided to listen to his sister's advice.
"Well then, goodbye," Laura escorted them to the door, her smile still bright, but with a hint of coldness.
Amy pulled Nick up and then walked tightly out of the small door. Her heart was beating very fast, as if it was about to jump out of her chest.
"Amy, don't you think this place is super cool? Imagine, we can stay here forever, eat the best food, play the best games!" Nick's tone was full of excitement and uncontainable optimism.
"Nick, don't you think everything is too good to be true? Sometimes, things may seem perfect, but there could be hidden traps behind it," Amy's tone revealed a hint of seriousness.
"Are you saying there's a problem here?"
"Yes, Nick. I can't explain it, but my intuition tells me we should leave here."
Nick looked at Amy, hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, if that's what you say, I'll follow your lead."
At the moment they returned home, Puppet Mother Laura turned around and looked at the space behind the door with an almost imperceptible smile.
"They will come back, they definitely will," she murmured softly.
And the mysterious little door quietly closed.
After having dinner at Puppet World, Jack and Laura escorted them back to that small door. After Amy and Nick stepped out, it was as if they had awakened from a dream.
"This is truly incredible!" Nick couldn't help but say excitedly.
Amy smiled, but felt a surge of unease and doubt in her heart. When Puppet Jack and Marionette Laura saw them off, the look in Laura's mother's eyes at that moment made her feel very uneasy.
The evening breeze gently blew past the ancient, eerie tree, and its branches seemed to be whispering some inexplicable things. Amy and Nick returned to their home in the real world, only to run into their parents who had just come back from the market.
"Strange? Why haven't you had dinner? We left the food we prepared for you in the fridge," their father Jack asked, looking puzzled.
"We're not hungry," Amy replied, noticing that her dad Jack was holding a big bag.
Mother Laura walked over, smiling, and said, "Look, we bought toys for you at the market." She handed over two puppets, exquisitely made with delicate colors that immediately caught the eye.
Nick immediately grabbed one, his face filled with excitement: "Wow, it's really beautiful!"
Amy has also received another puppet, and should feel happy. But when her gaze met the eyes of the puppet, an inexplicable chill ran through her. Those eyes seemed to hide something unexplainable.
"Thank you, Mom," she forced a smile.
Nick didn't care at all about the puppet, so he casually placed it on the bedside table and continued playing his video game.
Amy walked into her modernly decorated room, with soft carpets covering the floor and abstract art hanging on the walls. She walked to the desk and set down the puppet, still filled with doubt and unease.
Then, she took a piece of cloth and covered the puppet completely, trying to ease her mind.
At night, Amy lay in bed, thinking about Laura's pair of puppet eyes. She kept wondering what would happen if she and Nick actually chose to wear that pair of puppet eyes.
Amy thought of some terrifying possibilities: perhaps they would become puppets, never able to return home; or maybe those eyes had some kind of magic, able to control their thoughts and actions.
Suddenly, Amy's phone rang. She looked and saw it was a message from Nick.
"Amy, I can't sleep. I keep thinking about those eyes and what Laura said. What do you think we should do?"
Amy hesitated for a moment, then replied, "Nick, I've been thinking about it too. But my gut tells me we should stay away from that place and those eyes. I feel like something is off there."
"I trust you, Amy. Let's keep our distance then."
Amy put down her phone and lay back on the bed, but she still felt uneasy.
She wondered if choosing to stay away from that place would avoid all the danger. But some questions have no answers.
However, one thing Amy was sure of was that she would protect her family and not let them fall into any danger.
Late at night, Amy couldn't fall asleep. She took out her phone and tried to find information about a certain place, but she couldn't find anything. This made her even more uneasy.
Amy remembered those mysterious neighbors: retired Broadway actor Alan, retired clergyman Francis, retired band lead singer Michelle, do they also know all this?
"I can't go on like this, I must find out the clues behind all this," Amy thought to herself, then tightly grabbed her phone as if it were the only redemption.
