Chapter Two: Reeds and Rushes 0

Junxi stepped out of the Hengfu Group building and saw Xue Waiwai standing across the street, biting into a bread roll and waving at her. 0

The green light shone. 0

She joined the hurried crowd crossing the street, and Xue Waiwai ran over, shoving a bottle of water into her hand. 0

"How's it going? Do you feel confident?" 0

Junxi twisted off the cap and tilted her head back. Cold water rushed down her throat, and the moment of silence from earlier flashed through her mind again, making her heart race with anxiety. 0

"It's uncertain," Junxi replied. 0

This answer seemed to be what Xue Waiwai expected. She shot Junxi a glance. "See? It's all your fault for messing around. It could have been as simple as Zhou Gongzi saying a word, but you had to make it so complicated." 0

Junxi took another sip of water. "It's easy to slip in through the back door, but it's not easy to establish a foothold. I don't want people looking at me through colored glasses in the future." 0

"You just have too much pride." 0

"Enough about me. What about you?" 0

Xue Waiwai was out for an interview today. She was interviewing at Zhongyuan Group, directly across from Hengfu Group. Hengfu Group and Zhongyuan were the two rival giants of Qingcheng, separated by just a street yet maintaining a relationship as distant as if they were sworn enemies. 0

During a casual meeting in their dormitory, after both of them shared their job aspirations, the other sisters had teased them: "From now on, you two should keep your meetings a secret. Otherwise, people might think you're spies..." 0

That joke still echoed in her ears, and now, in the blink of an eye, it was time for them to go out for interviews. Time really did fly. 0

"Me? It's so crowded! I've been waiting from morning until afternoon without even eating. I'm starving!" Xue Waiwai pinched her waist and continued munching on her bread. 0

"Forget the bread. I'll take you out for something delicious." 0

"Come on, where are you going to get the money to treat me?" 0

"Isn't it from the tutoring money I just earned? Let's go! I should have treated you to a nice meal long ago!" Junxi pulled Xue Waiwai's arm and started walking forward. 0

"I'm not going! I'm not going!" Xue Waiwai planted her feet firmly in place. 0

"Why not?" Junxi pinched her playfully. "You don't need to save money for me." 0

"Who said I'm saving money for you? Don't you remember today is Zhou Gongzi's birthday? Soon there will be countless delicacies and fine drinks sent our way. Why should we waste our stomachs and spend money on mundane food? You might be foolish, but I'm not!" 0

Xue Waiwai's serious expression made Junxi laugh. 0

Indeed, today was Zhou Ziyan's birthday. He had hinted at Junxi to prepare a gift a month ago; how could she have forgotten about it? 0

"By the way, you mentioned yesterday that Zhou Ziyan changed the location of the party?" 0

"Yatian. I heard it's all upscale villas there!" Xue Waiwai said as she draped her arm over Junxi's shoulder, speaking earnestly. "With graduation approaching, Zhou Gongzi is starting to show his true colors. You should just give in to him, or else he might get snatched away by another woman, and you'll have nowhere to cry!" 0

"But I and he..." 0

"I know, I know!" Xue Waiwai interrupted Junxi eagerly. "You two are childhood friends, you're pure and innocent, you have nothing going on! You big silly girl!" 0
