Chapter Six: Reeds and Rushes 0

Zhou Xuanyu stood at the door, though no one knew when he had arrived. The students in the dance floor recognized him and began to whisper among themselves, but he remained unfazed. 0

His cool gaze swept through the crowd, seemingly landing on her but also appearing to miss her entirely. 0

Zhou Ziyan released her hand. "My uncle is here; I’ll go say hi." 0

She softly replied, "Okay," and stepped back outside the dance floor, watching as the two men embraced at the entrance. 0

Zhou Xuanyu raised his hand and patted Zhou Ziyan's shoulder, his lips forming the words "Happy Birthday." 0

Zhou Ziyan shamelessly extended her hands, asking for a gift. 0

Zhou Xuanyu smiled and pointed towards the parking lot outside. Following his finger, Junxi spotted a sleek silver sports car. 0

Zhou Ziyan was known for her obsession with cars, and Zhou Xuanyu's gift certainly catered to her interests. However, such a grand gesture felt overwhelming… too grand for ordinary students like them to comprehend. 0

Junxi averted her gaze. 0

The music in the dance floor grew loud again; the atmosphere from moments before felt far removed from what a lively party should be. 0

Waltz was simply too niche; only energetic dancing could draw in more people. 0

Junxi leaned back into the corner of the sofa, continuing to fiddle with the piece of cake she hadn’t finished earlier. 0

A large crowd gathered at the entrance, all drawn by Zhou Ziyan's flashy gift. 0

Zhou Ziyan eagerly hopped into the car, the engine's sharp roar cutting through the music. While everyone praised the spectacle, one person stood still, unmoving. 0

That pale figure, even hidden in the thick night and the throng of people, remained strikingly noticeable. 0

Zhou Xuanyu suddenly turned back. 0

Their eyes met, intertwined, then separated without a second of lingering; her palms began to sweat again. 0

"Junxi... Junxi... I have to go." 0

The long-missing Xue Waiwai finally appeared, her arm linked with the Department Representative from the nearby Mathematics Department, clearly intoxicated. 0

Junxi walked over to support her. 0

"How did you get this drunk?" 0

Xue Waiwai wrapped her arms around Junxi's neck and whispered, "If I don't get this drunk, how will a handsome guy give me a ride?" 0

Junxi frowned with concern. "How about I walk with you?" 0

"Wen Junxi, do you even understand?" Xue Waiwai whispered carefully in her ear. 0

The Department Representative looked a bit awkward; his handsome face flushed slightly, revealing a hint of clumsiness. "Don't worry, I'll make sure she gets back to her dorm safely." 0

The handsome guy had made his intentions clear, so Junxi naturally didn't want to play the third wheel. 0

As Xue Waiwai and the Department Representative left, pairs of men and women in the hall began to follow suit. The birthday party had turned into a de facto social gathering. 0

Junxi sat for a while longer, and as she noticed it was almost time for the dormitory curfew, she found a legitimate reason to leave early. 0

She walked over to Zhou Ziyan and the others. 0

"Zhou Ziyan, I have to head back." 0

"What’s the rush? Wait until this is over, and I'll give you a ride home. My uncle's new car deserves to have you in the passenger seat for its first trip." 0

Zhou Ziyan's tone was somewhat ambiguous, causing Zhou Xuanyu, who was standing nearby, to glance at her. 0

"No need. If I’m late, the Dormitory Matron won’t let me in. You know how she can go on and on like a monk..." 0

Junxi mimicked the Dormitory Supervisor's incessant chattering with exaggerated gestures, making Zhou Ziyan laugh. "Alright then, my uncle is just about to leave; you can ride with him." 0

"No thanks..." 0

"It's on the way," Zhou Xuanyu suddenly said. 0
