Chapter 40: The Dew Has Yet to Dry 0

The morning meeting continued uninterrupted until the afternoon, with Zhou Xuanyu and the executives of Hengfu Group having their lunch in the conference room. 0

At one o'clock in the afternoon, the meeting concluded. 0

Xiaolin Fang watched as Zhou Xuanyu was surrounded by a crowd, hurriedly pressing his temples as he made his way back to his office. 0

Most likely, the results of the meeting were not ideal. 0

She hesitated to disturb him at such a time, but there was no choice; Galen had sent an urgent document from abroad that required the president's personal review and approval. Eager to respond to a client, Galen had repeatedly emphasized over the phone, "Time is of the essence." 0

With a heavy heart, Xiaolin knocked on the door. After receiving a response from Zhou Xuanyu, she pushed the door open. 0

He was busy dealing with the pile of documents on his desk, all of which had accumulated due to the morning meeting. 0

"Mr. Zhou," Xiaolin called out. 0

"Speak," Zhou Xuanyu replied without looking up. 0

"Manager Gao sent a document from Italy and is waiting for your approval." 0

Zhou Xuanyu tapped on the desk, signaling Xiaolin Fang to place the document there. 0

Xiaolin opened the file and set it beside him as he had instructed. Finally, she cautiously added, "Mr. Zhou, Manager Gao hopes you can respond immediately." 0

Zhou Xuanyu nodded slightly, his hands never pausing until the ink from his pen flowed smoothly across the document, signing his name... Zhou Xuanyu, each stroke executed with effortless grace. 0

"Call Manager Gao." 0

"Yes." 0

Xiaolin snapped back to reality, putting away her infatuated expression, and dialed Galen's number on the phone. After two rings, the call connected, and she handed the receiver to Zhou Xuanyu. 0

Galen knew why Zhou Xuanyu was calling, so before Zhou Xuanyu could say anything, she proactively began reporting on her work from the other end of the line. 0

Zhou Xuanyu held the phone between his shoulder and ear, listening to Galen while continuing to sign his name on documents. 0

Galen carefully went through the contents of the documents with Zhou Xuanyu, exuding confidence about closing this deal. 0

Zhou Xuanyu appeared somewhat distracted, but the questions he occasionally paused to ask were quite constructive. 0

Xiaolin stood by, taking advantage of the moment to unabashedly observe Zhou Xuanyu. 0

They say serious men are the most handsome; thus, a man who is already striking becomes even more captivating when he is focused, leaving no room for others. 0

Once Galen finished her report, Zhou Xuanyu's expression relaxed. He put down his pen, spun around in his office chair to face the cluster of buildings outside the window, and joked, "Manager Gao, since the translator is conveniently absent today, I’ll trust you to sign off directly. You can't sell me out." 0

Galen's laughter was so hearty that Xiaolin could hear it from where she stood. She thought to herself that Galen, usually a tough woman who wouldn’t easily be swayed, was clearly no match for someone like Zhou Xuanyu. 0

He was charming across all ages; Zhou Xuanyu was truly formidable. 0

After hanging up the phone, Zhou Xuanyu cautiously verified some key points before signing his name on the document. 0

"Wen Junxi..." he casually mentioned as he handed the document back to Xiaolin. 0

Xiaolin froze for a moment, thinking he was about to reprimand her. She quickly explained for Junxi: "Wen Junxi couldn’t come to the office because of family matters. She wrote her leave request yesterday. Since you were busy, I hadn’t brought it to you for approval." 0

"She requested leave yesterday? Family matters?" Zhou Xuanyu frowned; he hadn’t heard her mention it. 0

Xiaolin nodded. 0

"She said she was going to Yigao to attend a parent-teacher meeting for her brother." 0

"A parent-teacher meeting..." Zhou Xuanyu repeated the term, which felt somewhat unfamiliar to him. 0

She could barely take care of herself with her injured leg, and yet she was going to attend a parent-teacher meeting? 0

"Junxi's background seems quite sad. I noticed that her parents' information is all blank in her file. She only has that one brother; no wonder she's so concerned..." 0

"You should leave now." 0

"Yes." 0

Xiaolin stuck out her tongue, realizing only after being interrupted how gossipy and unnecessary her words had been. As she turned to leave, the reflection of Zhou Xuanyu's thoughtful profile appeared in the floor-to-ceiling window. 0

"Xiaolin Fang." He called her back. 0

"Yes?" 0

"Cancel my appointments for this afternoon." 0

"Uh? Sure..." 0
