Chapter 42: The Mountain Has Trees 2
Sponsored?
Junxi shivered. This was something she had actually experienced.
When Minya fell ill and had no one to care for her, she cried out for Junxi in the middle of the night. Shen Yunchong had once driven his Hummer straight to the dormitory late at night. The roaring engine of the Hummer woke many sleeping girls, and when he couldn't reach Junxi on the phone, he stood outside the girls' dormitory shouting her name...
Late at night, a man and a luxury car.
That scene, looking back now, still felt heart-stopping.
The next day, rumors spread like wildfire at Zijin University. Everyone said that Wen Junxi from the English department was being sponsored by a wealthy man from outside the school, who was restless and causing chaos in the girls' dormitory late at night... Junxi only heard about that vividly fabricated story a month later. By the time she learned of it, it was already past the best moment to clarify; she didn't want to exacerbate things further and simply laughed it off.
However, from that point on, people around her began to look at her through tinted glasses, and the meaningless gossip behind her back never truly ceased.
Junxi always believed that how others viewed her didn't matter; those who understood her didn't need explanations, and those who didn't understand her needed none either.
It wasn't until later, during a scholarship evaluation when a student voting section was suddenly added, that she realized just how wrong she had been.
Though the sponsorship rumor was entirely unfounded, its impact on her was indeed significant.
If only the Shen Yunchong of that time had half the attentiveness and consideration for her that Zhou Xuanyu has now, she wouldn't have missed out on that scholarship that was supposed to be used for her brother's tuition...
But then again, how many men in this world can be like Zhou Xuanyu?
The entrance of Yigao was crowded with cars, as parents arrived one after another for the parent-teacher meeting. Zhou Xuanyu's car was stuck at the school gate, unable to move forward or backward.
"I can just get out here," Junxi insisted, unbuckling her seatbelt without hesitation.
"Don't move," Zhou Xuanyu said, holding her arm firmly. "I'll take you inside."
With that, he locked the car doors, completely cutting off her escape.
Private cars were generally not allowed into Yigao, yet Zhou Xuanyu's vehicle passed through without any hindrance.
She was quite curious, and it wasn't until they entered the parking lot and someone rushed over to greet him that Junxi remembered Zhou Xuanyu was also a graduate of Yigao.
His graduation was no ordinary one; it was a remarkable achievement worthy of being recorded in the school's history.
Zhou Xuanyu was the first top scorer in the college entrance examination since Yigao was established over fifty years ago. While it's often said that heroes shouldn't dwell on past glories, it seemed unnecessary to mention it. The key point is that all these years later, Zhou Xuanyu's accomplishments and reputation in Qingcheng have only grown stronger.
Since returning from France, Zhou Xuanyu had mentioned his alma mater on various occasions. His words had enough influence to rival a television station running an advertisement for an entire day. As a result, Yigao had secured numerous sponsorships thanks to Zhou Xuanyu's name, alleviating many of their concerns.
With such a dazzling figure returning, the school was eager to welcome him back; how could they possibly stop him from entering?
"Mr. Zhou, the principal knows you're coming and specifically sent me to greet you," said the man speaking to Zhou Xuanyu, who wore glasses and appeared quite refined, though his words carried a hint of insincerity.
Zhou Xuanyu nodded and turned to support Junxi.
"Director Guo, you can go ahead with your work. I'll head over by myself in a bit."
Director Guo glanced at Junxi, seemingly wanting to say something more, but Zhou Xuanyu had already pulled Junxi away.
"I can manage on my own," Junxi whispered.
It seemed Zhou Xuanyu didn't hear her, tightening his grip on her arm instead.
Jun Xuan's classroom was on the third floor. Zhou Xuanyu helped her ascend step by step; at this pace, it truly belittled his long legs. However, he showed no signs of impatience.
Junxi held onto his arm for support, occasionally glancing up at him. He pressed his lips together, thoughtfully shielding her from the bustling crowd in the hallway, his expression filled with tenderness.
For the first time, she felt that even pain could be so sweet.
