Walking into the depths of the warehouse, Kyle and Diego carefully dodged the busy workers. The warehouse was filled with all kinds of boxes and goods, from everyday items to unique alien artifacts specific to the city of Core. Everything was neatly stacked in an orderly manner, providing them with excellent opportunities for concealment.
As they ventured further, a checkpoint-like area gradually appeared in their sight. A small guard booth was situated at a strategic point, with several heavily armed guards standing solemnly, their vigilant eyes scanning the surroundings.
Before reaching the checkpoint, Kyle and Diego paused for a moment. They had to be careful in their approach to avoid raising any unnecessary suspicion. Diego pretended to chat casually with the guard nearby, attempting to divert their attention, while Kyle carefully held the box containing Ray Jin.
Diego amiably said to the guard, "Hey, friend, it doesn't seem too busy on duty today, huh? Looks like it's just the usual routine work."
The guard glanced at them with a hint of caution on his face, but still answered, "Yes, it's just a routine inspection. What are you doing here?"
"We're here to handle some contraband," Diego replied, gesturing to the box in Kyle's hand.
Kyle then pretended to be a little nervous and added, "Yes, we found these suspicious items among the goods and need to take them to the security inspection room for further examination."
When Kyle and Diego stood in front of the inspection station, a security guard suddenly frowned and stared sharply at the box in their hands. He walked up, with a hint of doubt in his tone, and asked, "What's in this box? It needs to be checked."
Kyle and Diego locked eyes and quickly got into character. Diego casually replied, "Oh, this? It's just a bunch of documents slandering the empire, some scrap paper, and old files. Nothing interesting to see here."
Kyle added, "Yeah, just some old files that need to be destroyed."
Another security guard walked over, his gaze scanning Kyle and Diego, then pointing at the tags around their necks, he asked in confusion, "Are you from the People's Welfare Office?"
Diego quickly responded, "Yes, yes, we are indeed from there. We have some special tasks to handle today."
Just as Kyle and Diego were trying to quickly leave, one of the security guards suddenly intensified his tone and said, "Wait, you two, stop! We need to check this box."
Kyle and Diego exchanged a glance, feeling a sharp increase in their nervousness. Diego tried to stay calm and replied, "Oh, it's just some documents to be destroyed, nothing really special."
But the security guard's attitude became even more resolute. They stepped forward, and one of the guards said firmly, "No, we must confirm. Here, anything unusual cannot be ignored."
Kyle felt a pang of anxiety, but he tried to remain calm. He carefully opened the cardboard box, silently praying that Ray Jin wouldn't make a sound. Inside the box, along with Ray Jin, were some scattered papers and documents that looked like useless items.
When the guards inspected the boxes, one of them gradually became suspicious. He stared at the tags of Kyle and Diego, furrowing his brow, and asked, "Are you from the People's Welfare Office? Dealing with illegal documents? This sounds very unusual."
Another guard also began to express doubt, adding, "Yeah, we've never heard of the People's Welfare Office handling this kind of thing. Are you sure this is a legitimate operation?"
Kyle felt the pressure increasing, and quickly came up with an excuse: "Ah, yes, we just received instructions from higher up. To be honest, we are also very confused, but orders are orders, and we can only follow them."
Diego tried to lighten the mood, smiling and saying, "Yeah, sometimes we don't really understand the decisions from above, but we're just ordinary civil servants, we dare not ask too much."
The guards glanced at each other, clearly not entirely convinced by the explanation, but they didn't press further. One of the guards eventually nodded and said, "Alright, but you better be more careful in the future. This isn't something to be taken lightly."
Kyle and Diego nodded gratefully and quickly left the checkpoint, feeling fortunate about the narrow escape from the conversation. They continued toward their goal, reminding themselves to be even more careful with every step ahead.
Kyle and Diego swiftly shuttle through the warehouse, occasionally looking back to ensure they are not being followed by the guards. As they venture deeper into the warehouse, the surrounding light grows dim, and the massive shelves storing various supplies act as barriers, providing them with cover.
In a low voice, Diego says to Kyle, "Things seem more challenging than expected, but we've still managed to sneak in successfully. I'll go handle the power system now, you hurry and find my spaceship." His tone reveals both tension and determination.
Kyle nodded in understanding. They quickly walked to a tall shelf and temporarily concealed their figures. Diego nodded to Kyle indicating that he was going to leave. Kyle looked around to make sure no one was paying attention, then began searching for the T-173 Roamer model small cruiser as described by Diego.
Meanwhile, Diego quietly proceeded along another route towards the direction of the warehouse's power control room. His movements were swift and cautious, constantly alert to any activity around him.
Kyle, in the process of searching for the spaceship, his heart raced. Whenever someone approached, he pretended to be calm, making sure he didn't look too suspicious. He kept recalling Diego's description of the spaceship, hoping to find that small blue and gold cruiser in the near future. Every second in the warehouse seemed unusually long to Kyle, knowing that any small mistake could lead to the failure of the plan.
