"Is your boyfriend in this game too? Are you looking for him?"
Tang Jingshu was somewhat surprised. She had heard that Xu Nuan's boyfriend was an engineer at a well-known company, earning a high salary.
"Were you both together when you came in?"
Tang Jingshu couldn't help but ask. From the gossip she had heard, Xu Nuan didn't seem like a gold digger. Would she really risk her life for money in such a dangerous game?
If it were her, no matter how much she longed to elevate her family's living standards to match her boyfriend's parents, she would never wager her life.
"No."
Xu Nuan simply replied without explaining that the person was no longer her boyfriend. In this matter, Tang Jingshu was irrelevant.
Feeling a bit awkward and unsure of what to say next, Tang Jingshu suddenly noticed a familiar plant.
"This looks like Cassava. After soaking it to remove the toxins, it can be eaten."
Tang Jingshu's attention instantly shifted; having something to fill her stomach would keep her from overthinking.
Xu Nuan carefully examined the leaves of the plant and then took out a folding knife to dig up its roots. After inspecting them, she confirmed it.
"It really is Cassava."
The two of them began searching for Cassava, digging without a care for their appearance.
Xu Nuan noticed that Tang Jingshu really knew her plants. In this area, she could quickly name the palm trees, sisal, coffee, cloves, and more, analyzing their specific growth habits and uses.
Xu Nuan raised an eyebrow, curious.
"Did you major in something related to plants in college?"
Tang Jingshu shook her head with a smile.
"No, I studied advertising design in college. My knowledge about plants is purely a personal hobby."
Xu Nuan nodded, impressed. It was remarkable that someone could reach such a level of expertise just from a hobby. With that thought in mind, Xu Nuan casually asked,
"Have you thought about who might have taken your ID to sign this contract? You probably wouldn't want to stay in the game any longer."
Tang Jingshu found it a bit strange. After spending these days together, she didn't think the current Xu Nuan was the type to ask such enthusiastic questions; she had always seemed rather aloof. But strange as it was, Tang Jingshu offered her own guess.
"It should be my uncle. He's a bit of a gambler and likes to pester my mom for money."
Tang Jingshu spoke with a hint of helplessness and resignation, not really angry, still maintaining her gentle demeanor.
This information wasn't particularly useful. Xu Nuan pondered for a moment while continuing to dig for Cassava and pressed on with her questions.
"Before you were sent into this game, did anything special happen?"
Tang Jingshu felt an even stranger sensation in her heart but still replied.
"I didn't really pay attention. In fact, if I couldn't feel the things around me, I would think I was still dreaming."
Tang Jingshu's hand holding Cassava trembled slightly, and a faint sound escaped her lips.
"However, this is all real. It’s true that I was knocked out on my way to work. It’s true that I participated in this game. Whether I can safely get out is still unknown."
"Hey, Nuan," Tang Jingshu looked at Xu Nuan with a pleading gaze, as if grasping onto a lifeline.
"We can get out, right? You've managed to get through so many levels on your own. You have confidence, don't you?"
Faced with the fragile and helpless side of Tang Jingshu, Xu Nuan could only respond with silence.
