There are many unforgettable scenes in a person's life, whether joyful or sorrowful, yet all are profound.
The internal organs and the flesh of the chest felt as if they were being tightly gripped by a hand, making it hard to breathe, and the entire body was in pain.
It was a strange yet overwhelming sensation.
When she turned around and saw that scene, Xu Nuan felt as if the world had come to a standstill.
Gu Ze was half his body caught by the shark, its teeth already piercing into Gu Ze's soft abdomen, and the blood gushing out quickly stained his clothes red. Gu Ze's face turned pale from the sudden loss of blood, yet he still persisted in attacking the shark with a short knife, achieving little effect.
Xu Hang's eyes turned red as he tried to jump off the boat but was urgently held back by Xie Huai. Deng Yinyin also stopped looking after Tang Jingshu and wanted to jump into the water.
Xu Nuan suddenly felt warm liquid flowing from her forehead, accompanied by a heavy scent of blood.
However, it was just her illusion; she wasn't injured—the one who was hurt was that person.
In that moment, Xu Nuan decided to put aside all doubts about Gu Ze. Before she could even react, her fear of water propelled her into the sea.
Though she could only paddle awkwardly, she somehow found herself next to the shark. With her left hand holding the short knife, she plunged it into the shark's right eye, causing blood to erupt and splatter across her face.
The shark released its grip, and Gu Ze began to sink into the sea, blood spreading outwards.
In its frenzy from not being able to see, the shark thrashed its tail wildly, colliding everywhere at high speed. Xu Nuan and Gu Ze were both knocked away by the shark and ended up close to the boat.
A strong wind suddenly blew through, and Xu Nuan grabbed Gu Ze with one hand while trying to hold onto the edge of the boat with the other. However, the boat was pushed away by the wind, leaving her grasp empty.
Feeling her legs starting to cramp, Xu Nuan gritted her teeth, wondering how much longer she could hold on. Just then, a hand grasped hers; looking up, she saw it was Deng Yinyin.
"Hold on, I'll pull you up."
Xu Nuan noticed the bottle next to Deng Yinyin, filled with concentrated sulfuric acid. The potion that Gu Ze had was still in her pocket, and they were in this dire situation because of that shark. She couldn't swallow her anger without getting some revenge.
"First, pull him up."
Xu Nuan exerted herself to lift the semi-conscious Gu Ze. He was losing too much blood, and if they didn't take care of him soon, it would be disastrous.
Xie Huai rowed while Xu Hang came over to help, and together with Deng Yinyin, they managed to bring Gu Ze up.
Xu Nuan finally breathed a sigh of relief and pointed at the bottle, urging Deng Yinyin to bring it over.
She had no idea what would happen when these two substances mixed, but the shark was still thrashing not far from her, its mouth opening and closing aimlessly as seawater splashed in and out.
Gritting her teeth, Xu Nuan waved off Xu Hang, who seemed eager for something. She swam awkwardly closer to the shark and pulled out the potion from her pocket. She opened it along with the bottle containing concentrated sulfuric acid. As a wave crashed towards her, Xu Nuan raised her hand high to keep water from entering the bottle while the shark blindly swam closer.
Taking a deep breath, Xu Nuan poured the potion into another bottle. A foul stench wafted toward her as she hurled the bottle into the shark's mouth and then swam with all her might toward the shore.
Deng Yinyin was already waiting by the boat and quickly reached out when she saw Xu Nuan approaching.
As Xu Nuan climbed aboard, she caught a whiff of a pungent odor that was a mix of foulness and acidity. When she safely sat on the boat and looked back, she saw that the shark had stopped struggling, its body now lying upside down on the sea surface. The source of that terrible smell was emanating from it.
"Everyone come help! With this wind, we can drift away easily."
Xu Hang's deep voice made Xu Nuan turn around. Her gaze fell upon Gu Ze lying on the deck, pressing his abdomen and coughing continuously. His shirt had been opened, revealing a gruesome wound on his stomach with flesh rolling out and stained with blood. Xu Hang was applying emergency treatment while Xie Huai handed over bandages and other supplies from the side.
Xu Nuan suddenly felt parched, and after a moment of daze, she managed to ask, "How is he?"
Xu Hang's expression remained solemn and serious. "He hasn't injured any internal organs, but he has lost too much blood. The wound is too large, and he will need extensive rest."
In this game, 'rest' was a luxury.
Xu Nuan no longer looked at Gu Ze's pale and disheveled face.
Meanwhile, Xu Hang took the opportunity to assign tasks to her and the anxious Deng Yinyin, who was crouching beside Gu Ze.
"You go to Gu Ze's backpack and get that telescope. Deng Yinyin, your main task now is to take care of Tang Jingshu. Keep an eye on his wound to see if it's bleeding or inflamed. Ze will be fine with the two of us looking after him."
"Okay." Deng Yinyin reluctantly moved to the unconscious Tang Jingshu's side.
Seeing this, Xu Nuan rummaged through Gu Ze's backpack again. Not only did she find the telescope, but she also discovered a ring.
From its design, it appeared to be a Tail Ring. The style was ordinary; it didn’t reveal much about its material or purpose, but it was entirely a light green color, which seemed somewhat odd.
A Tail Ring was nothing special; Xu Nuan had one herself, which was a thermometer.
What attracted Xu Nuan to this Tail Ring was that she had seen Qin Yaojie play with a similar ring about a year or two ago—she couldn't quite remember. This ring was too plain, leaving her uncertain.
Xu Nuan didn't believe in coincidences; the questions this Tail Ring raised were more than she had anticipated.
Xu Nuan lingered too long in front of Gu Ze's backpack, drawing the displeasure of Deng Yinyin.
"Can you just grab the binoculars without rummaging through everything else?"
Deng Yinyin shifted closer to Xu Nuan and noticed her holding a ring. She immediately spoke up.
"Curious about this ring? A few of us have one too. It's old-fashioned and not very pretty. Do you like it?"
Deng Yinyin quickly pulled out a similar ring and waved it in front of Xu Nuan.
"You all… have one?" Xu Nuan frowned and guessed, "Did the company give them out?"
"Uh," Deng Yinyin twitched her mouth, "Why would the company give out such tacky things? We got these at Hidden Level, during that Gorge stage. We hadn't run into you yet back then. Tsk tsk, you look like you really want it, but too bad you weren't with us when we were clearing that stage."
Deng Yinyin was always straightforward, speaking without a filter, but Xu Nuan didn’t mind.
"I see." Xu Nuan suppressed her thoughts, put the ring back, picked up the binoculars, smiled at Deng Yinyin, and walked to the other end of the boat to start searching for islands.
With no one talking, Deng Yinyin pouted and moved back to Tang Jingshu's side.
At this moment, Radiant Glow was full, and the evening sea looked like a painting.
Colors burst through the clouds in the distance, gradually spreading with the shimmering waves, while the clouds reflected on the Sea Surface added to its beauty.
The wind gradually calmed down. Xu Hang and Xie Huai finished bandaging Gu Ze and instinctively picked up the oars to prepare for rowing. However, before they could start rowing, they needed to choose the right direction, so they both instinctively looked toward Xu Nuan, who was holding the binoculars.
"Do you see any islands?"
Xu Nuan shook her head. If she had seen an island, she would have already voiced her excitement.
"Then which direction should we paddle?"
Xie Huai hesitated. "Besides, we haven't eaten in a long time."
Xu Hang remained silent, his face stern as he glanced at Deng Yinyin, who was dozing off beside Tang Jingshu.
Xu Nuan also fell silent, reflecting on the results of their current predicament.
Two of them were injured and unconscious, the two who could dive were unable to catch any prey, and those who couldn't dive could only paddle without finding any islands.
No food, no direction, and it was getting dark.
Perhaps having experienced many desperate situations before, Xu Nuan felt surprisingly calm. The boat rocked slightly, making it hard to stand, so she decided to sit down and joined Xie Huai's side in the paddling effort.
"Let's make a choice," Xu Nuan said lightly. "Should we paddle towards the stronger current or the weaker one? I observed earlier that to my left the current is strong, to my right it's weaker, and straight ahead the current is moderate."
Xu Hang, with a serious expression and darkened eyes, suddenly looked up.
"Turn right and paddle."
Xu Nuan nodded. She didn't understand the situation on the sea surface, so following Xu Hang's lead seemed like a wise choice.
The colors grew darker, and after Deng Yinyin woke up, she realized she couldn't be of any help and fell back asleep, leaving a coat for herself, Tang Jingshu, and Gu Ze.
Without food and still needing to row, Xu Hang and the others accepted this situation, pulling out their flashlights to illuminate the surroundings as they continued onward.
The moon over the sea was no different from that on land; it was merely the scenery around them that evoked different feelings.
The thin moonlight, the harsh beam of the flashlight, the sound of waves, and soft snoring filled the air.
Xu Nuan freed one hand to cover her mouth as she yawned.
Xu Hang, who was a meter away, spoke up.
"You should rest too. Xie Huai and I can manage."
Xu Hang's gaze shifted to Xie Huai, noticing he had already dozed off. The motion of his paddling had nearly ceased, prompting a sigh from Xu Hang.
Noticing this action, Xu Nuan turned her head and smirked slightly.
"I'll pass. Let him sleep for now; we can switch later. Otherwise, you won't be able to handle it either."
Xu Hang nodded and tried to wake Xie Huai a few times before returning to his serious demeanor, not intending to say more.
Xu Nuan shrugged and fell silent again.
She was both tired and hungry and didn't feel like talking. Yet, Xu Nuan admired her own endurance; she had managed to hold on for so long, surpassing her previous limits.
Extreme situations are meant for breakthroughs.
Xu Nuan's only surprise was that Gu Ze had collapsed.
Thinking of Gu Ze, Xu Nuan glanced subtly at him lying on the deck. Gu Ze was in a deep sleep, breathing heavily, but his complexion had finally regained some color, no longer looking so frightening. He didn't have a fever either, so overall, the situation was not too bad.
She curled her lips into a slight smile, imagining that if Gu Ze were awake and uninjured, given his personality, he would likely be taking turns keeping watch with Xu Hang.
As soon as this thought crossed her mind, Xu Nuan shook her head to dispel it.
She couldn't entertain such thoughts, she reminded herself.
Crisis always strikes when one least expects it.
Xu Nuan and Xu Hang had been rowing in the predetermined direction for quite a while. Just as she was about to wake Deng Yinyin and Xie Huai to switch shifts, the previously calm sea surface suddenly turned tumultuous. Xu Nuan and Xu Hang found it impossible to control the boat.
"Is a storm about to hit?"
Xu Nuan shouted towards Xu Hang amidst the wind.
