Chi Ming concealed his true strength.
This was a fact that Xu Nuan discovered after observing for a while. She did not understand the reason behind it, but seeing Chi Ming gain the upper hand by hiding his abilities made her refrain from voicing her thoughts. Moreover, witnessing Dong Keyong, who had previously threatened her and even killed Shen Shen in front of her, in such a pitiful state brought her immense satisfaction.
It was a sense of relief after avenging those who had harmed her. Even if it was through someone else's hands, Xu Nuan quickly established a mindset that no matter the means, she would drag these people into hell. Some of them sought to escape through secret passages, while others aimed to enjoy their rewards leisurely. Initially, Xu Nuan would not have stopped them. However, upon realizing that her momentary carelessness had led to such dire consequences, she resolved to do everything in her power to prevent these individuals from escaping. After all, she had never intended to play this game fairly, nor did she have any reason to leave it.
Xu Nuan was merely watching the tigers fight from the mountain when someone decided to disturb her.
“Nuan.”
She dared not turn around. Even though she could hear the voice filled with guilt and sorrow, along with a sense of regret, she still did not dare to look back.
She could not meet that man's eyes; once ensnared, she feared that one day in the future, she would have to relive the experiences of these past few days. Once was enough; any more and she could not guarantee that her affection would not turn into hatred.
“This is none of your business; you should leave quickly.”
She tried hard to ignore the bitterness rising in her heart as she spoke those words against her will. In truth, when Shen Shen had trapped her, she had hoped for these people to come and rescue her. But since it was merely hope, it could never become reality.
“Nuan, what’s going on?”
Next came He Min's voice, who added, “We can help too.”
“No need!”
Xu Nuan firmly rejected them again and took a few steps toward Chi Ming's direction. At this point, it was evident that Dong Keyong was in a state of decline. Chi Ming bore almost no injuries while Dong Keyong had several wounds inflicted by Chi Ming, and the rapid loss of blood made Dong Keyong's movements increasingly sluggish.
As Xu Nuan noticed Dong Keyong glancing towards the low cliff from time to time, a bad premonition gripped her heart. Anxious, she wanted to rush over and block Dong Keyong's last escape route. After taking a couple of steps, she hesitated and turned back to look at He Min.
"Do you know that person?"
He Min, who had initially thought Xu Nuan was reconsidering, brightened up at first. However, upon hearing Xu Nuan's question, she stared blankly at Chi Ming for a moment before shaking her head.
"I don't know him. He seems to be one of the First Batch of Players, but he looks like..."
"Shut up!"
Xu Nuan impatiently cut off He Min before she could say anything further. If Chi Ming found out that they had already met Chi Xiaoming and knew about his situation, he would surely turn from an ally into an enemy. It would also make it harder for her to deceive Chi Ming.
He Min was taken aback by Xu Nuan's abrupt and impatient attitude, a hint of hurt flashing across her face. Realizing this, Xu Nuan could only turn her head away and repeat herself.
"You all should leave! That person can handle this matter!"
Even though she knew that each of the five had a multitude of questions for her, she had neither the time nor the mood to answer them. Just standing there was already a challenge; her mind was dizzy, her body sluggish, and her organs protested loudly. She had persisted this far only to deal with Dong Keyong's entry into the Supply Station.
She couldn't give up at the last moment. With determination, Xu Nuan turned away again, desperately suppressing any hope that Gu Ze would rush over to stop her thoughts as she moved toward what seemed like an inevitable outcome.
In the end, Gu Ze did not rush forward to stop her, and despite He Min's hesitant expression, she did not take another step forward.
They had made their choice, hadn't they?
She had long since made hers.
The wound in her heart was torn wide open, allowing hail, rain, and fierce winds to pour in, yet it could not be filled. Instead, it left her feeling cold, hollow, and lost.
Xu Nuan had no mood to appreciate or describe the spectacular fight that Chi Ming was engaged in. By the time she got closer, Chi Ming had already pinned the heavily injured Dong Keyong to the ground, his knee pressing against Dong Keyong's abdomen to immobilize him. One hand gripped Dong Keyong's neck while the other plunged a short knife into one of his arms.
It was a bloody transaction.
Even after such a fierce battle, Chi Ming's expression remained largely unchanged; he still exuded the charm of a cheerful business elite. However, he had tilted his head slightly, his long bangs obscuring his eyes, making it difficult for Xu Nuan to discern his emotions.
Suddenly, she realized this was a familiar scene. Long ago, when she had been unaware of her feelings for Gu Ze, she often hurt him too. He would lower his head and lean against a tree in silence, and at that time, she could never see his emotions clearly but continued with her own affairs without a care.
As she unconsciously sighed, Xu Nuan snapped back to reality at such a critical moment. When she lifted her gaze, Chi Ming happened to look up at her, revealing a bright smile as he pulled the bloodied knife from Dong Keyong's arm.
"I see you have deep hatred for him; why not let you deal with him?"
Chi Ming tossed the knife toward Xu Nuan, who caught it skillfully as it dripped with blood. She heard gasps behind her but chose not to speak.
"Good suggestion."
Xu Nuan smiled faintly and met Chi Ming's scrutinizing gaze with calmness. She quickly walked over to Dong Keyong without sparing him a glance and drove the knife straight into his heart.
This time, Dong Keyong truly breathed his last. Xu Nuan had eliminated another threat; however, she couldn't feel joy. This was the second person who had died by her hand in such a manner. While she didn’t believe her conscience would condemn her, she still felt no happiness.
Though unhappy, the corners of her lips still curved upward as she looked up at Chi Ming, whose eyes seemed satisfied yet clouded with a haze.
"The transaction continues."
Chi Ming smirked, directly pulling out the short knife, shaking off the blood on it before sheathed it at her waist and took a few steps outside.
Seeing that Chi Ming had her back turned, Xu Nuan, frustrated by her lack of weapons, let her gaze drift towards Cliff for a moment, preparing to run over and escape. However, before she could do so, she needed to ensure that Gu Ze and the others would not clash with Chi Ming.
What Xu Nuan did not account for was that not only He Min had a deep impression of Chi Xiaoming, but the others also remembered that person well. Among them, Deng Yinyin was seeing Xu Nuan kill for the second time. Perhaps stimulated by the moment, she shouted out loud without regard for the situation or the skills Chi Ming had just displayed.
"This person looks a lot like Chi Xiaoming!"
Xu Nuan's eyelids twitched, and her heart skipped a beat. Reflexively, she tried to run towards Cliff, but Chi Ming was clearly faster and blocked her path, standing near Cliff with a smile directed at her.
"So you already know my identity. You are quite bold to dare collaborate with me at this moment."
Having missed the best opportunity to escape, Xu Nuan could only take a few steps toward Dong Keyong's body, hoping to find another chance while occasionally signaling He Min and the others with her eyes to leave quickly.
Undoubtedly, at this moment, these people were still her weakness, and she did not want Chi Ming to realize this and gain leverage to threaten her.
He Min and the others did not leave; they watched Chi Ming nervously. Chi Ming smiled at Xu Nuan while she clenched her fists in response to Chi Ming's gaze.
"It seems you never intended to cooperate properly from the beginning. So how should I punish you?"
Chi Ming's words made Xu Nuan's heart tremble, but unfortunately, she had no strength left, no weapons, and no bargaining chips to protect herself.
"You think too much," Xu Nuan forced herself to appear calm.
"Isn't our cooperation not over yet?"
Chi Ming's smile held a hint of danger, not entirely directed at Xu Nuan.
"I can't believe I didn't see through you from the beginning; that's my mistake. But that doesn't mean I won't reclaim the bargaining chips. You better be prepared."
The anger of a powerful person is hard to resist, and it might even spill over onto those nearby. Considering this, Xu Nuan, despite realizing she was unarmed, rushed toward Chi Ming. However, Chi Ming had anticipated this and had no intention of restraining Xu Nuan at that moment. The five onlookers observed that his strength was not particularly impressive, and even if they joined forces, they might not succeed. He never engaged in actions without confidence.
Xu Nuan watched in frustration as Chi Ming jumped off the already low Cliff, effortlessly flipping in the air before landing safely and quickly disappearing from her sight.
In a moment of desperation, she decided to jump off the Cliff as well. At that moment, Gu Ze, who had been vigilant all along, rushed over and wrapped his arms around her waist, preventing her from moving.
Already feeling weak, Xu Nuan couldn't break free from Gu Ze's hold. His proximity made her uncomfortable; it felt as if her heart was a large pot boiling with mixed emotions, churning and bubbling, causing her heart to ache and tingle.
"You didn't stop me earlier; what good does it do to block me now?"
Xu Nuan bit down hard on Gu Ze's arm that was blocking her path, feeling the flesh through the fabric. She couldn't admit the expectations she had harbored earlier. Clearly, Rationality and she resolving Dong Keyong and diverting Chi Ming was the best choice. Yet there was a corner of her heart that longed for Gu Ze to stop everything and prevent her from falling deeper into this madness.
Why did Gu Ze not intervene earlier but chose to show up now?
Was Pan Ran regretting? Suddenly realizing something? Or did he think Xu Nuan was vulnerable and needed comfort?
Regardless of the reason, Xu Nuan didn't need it. She bit down with all her strength, tasting blood through the fabric, but it did nothing to alleviate her pain or help her escape the turmoil of conflicting emotions.
Rationality and madness continued to entwine around her; she didn't want to be bound by feelings and lose the determination she had worked so hard to regain.
"I know you are plotting something. If you had stood up at that moment, that person would have realized it was Chi Ming, right?"
She bit Gu Ze's arm with all her might, venting her emotions, while Gu Ze let out a muffled grunt but leaned closer to her ear to explain, his voice hoarse, indicating he hadn't rested well.
How could he not have rested well?
Xu Nuan remembered the argument they had before parting ways, how many hurtful things Gu Ze had said, how he had insulted her dignity. Regretting it now was pointless.
"You were never here! Don't be here now either!"
The tears she had held back for nearly four days suddenly burst forth at that moment, cascading down like a torrential rain. When she needed Gu Ze the most, he was absent. When she was on the verge of breaking down, Gu Ze did not come looking for her. She had managed to pull herself together, which meant she no longer needed Gu Ze.
Was that really the case?
A voice inside her whispered so.
Every time she lost consciousness, it was Gu Ze's figure she saw. Each time a nightmare approached its end, it was also Gu Ze who appeared. In moments when she wanted to give up, despite feeling filled with resentment and hatred, there remained a glimmer of hope. If only she could see Gu Ze again; if she could survive, then she could see him once more.
"Gu Ze, I hate you!"
With tears flooding and emotions surging, Xu Nuan bit and hit Gu Ze, wanting to break free from his grasp and jump down to find Chi Ming.
