“Sheng Chao, Wu Yue, what are you doing here?”
He Min shouted, his face clearly showing anger.
At this moment, they were still at the cliff section of the waiting area, having been stuck there for quite a while. The massive stones around them seemed almost alive, attacking anyone trapped within their midst. These stones were no less formidable than human fists; a direct confrontation would only lead to harm for the players themselves.
Initially, they had approached the situation with caution, hesitant to confront these mechanisms head-on. However, as time passed, they realized their space for movement was gradually shrinking. While their actions became more restricted, they remained oblivious to how these mechanisms operated.
Gu Ze and Chi Xiaoming were also feeling stuck. Despite being the most knowledgeable about the game’s mechanisms, they couldn’t grasp every detail of each challenge. This temporary stalemate caused their focus to wane; they initially thought everyone was still around them, but before long, they noticed that some had vanished without a trace. No matter how loudly they called out, all they heard in response was the sound of shifting stones. They lacked heavy machinery or any extraordinary abilities like those seen in movies; there was no way to directly shatter the ground or dismantle the mechanisms.
As time went on, they lost track of when others had left or reappeared.
Everyone was in a state of panic, worrying about the stone attacks while trying to contact others and keep an eye on those nearby. The chaos was beyond description—dust filled the air, and loud rumbling sounds echoed everywhere. If one didn’t shout loudly, even someone just ten meters away wouldn’t be able to hear them.
Bad news began to trickle in, starting with Deng Yinyin’s piercing scream.
“Xie Huai, are you okay?”
“Xie Huai, you’re bleeding a lot!”
“Can anyone come help… ah!”
Then came Deng Yinyin’s own cries; her voice was loud enough to convey her distress clearly.
As her screams faded, Xu Hang, who had been standing next to Gu Ze, suddenly disappeared.
Seeing this, Gu Ze sighed. A few minutes later, he vaguely heard Xu Hang’s voice—it wasn’t too muffled and revealed his true condition. Feeling anxious and ready to move towards him, Chi Xiaoming spoke up beside him.
“Xu Nuan is missing.”
Gu Ze’s breath caught in his throat. Turning around, he realized that Xu Nuan, who had been closely following them just moments ago, was also gone. At this point, Gu Ze lost patience with this maze-like place while Chi Xiaoming silently continued doing what needed to be done.
Someone was injured, someone left, and someone returned.
Just as Gu Ze was figuring out the mechanism that would likely lead him to Xu Nuan, he heard Qi Huan's scream.
To be honest, Gu Ze and the others had a decent impression of Qi Huan. A person's daily behavior can reveal their character, and once humans spend enough time together, it becomes difficult to hide their true nature.
Qi Huan's nature was not off-putting to them. Originally, Qi Huan intended to tackle the challenges alone but was persuaded by Xu Nuan to stay. Gu Ze silently supported Xu Nuan's actions, and after their heart-to-heart talk, both he and Xu Nuan gained a deeper understanding of many things. At this moment, Gu Ze couldn't help but pay some attention to Qi Huan, driven by the same concern as Xu Hang.
For someone as composed as Qi Huan to scream like that likely meant something more than just being attacked by a boulder. Realizing this, Gu Ze followed the sound while dodging the entanglements of falling rocks along the way. Although this mechanism had injured several people to varying degrees, in Gu Ze's eyes, it was not particularly impressive. He didn't express this opinion but instead pointed it out casually with an air of ease.
Chi Xiaoming quietly followed behind.
Before they reached Qi Huan's location, they heard the sounds of a struggle. Their expressions changed instantly; a single glance exchanged between them revealed their thoughts.
However, when they finally arrived, they had no time to teach the two uninvited guests a lesson. Instead, they formed a defensive stance around the injured Qi Huan when He Min rushed over and identified the intruders.
Gu Ze glanced at the agitated He Min, puzzled. Had she been in the group all along or had she returned after leaving?
He couldn't know for sure but noticed that Chi Xiaoming had also recognized He Min before turning his attention to the man and woman not far away.
Clearly, Sheng Chao and Wu Yue were startled by their sudden arrival and seemed to hesitate.
"Weren't you on good terms with Qi Huan before? Why would you hurt her?"
He Min remained furious, even overly so. In expressing her anger, she didn't look at Qi Huan, who was being supported by Chi Xiaoming, nor did she show any concern for Qi Huan's wounds on her arms and abdomen.
Gu Ze felt a bit impatient; not everyone's anger could move him. He charged forward and grabbed Sheng Chao while he and Wu Yue were still hesitating.
However, Sheng Chao was no slouch either. After a moment of surprise, he broke free from Gu Ze's grasp, and the two began to fight.
Sheng Chao was slightly shorter than Gu Ze and not as muscular, but his skin had a healthy glow, suggesting he had been exercising regularly. Initially, Gu Ze held back during their sparring, not wanting to go all out while also keeping an eye on the dazed Wu Yue. However, it didn't take long for him to be provoked by the look in Sheng Chao's eyes.
Gu Ze had no idea what kind of job Sheng Chao had before entering the game, but he was certain it wasn't a job with any moral limits. Otherwise, Sheng Chao wouldn't be looking at him with a glint of cunning and calculation, as if he had found treasure.
Gu Ze felt like a piece of meat being eyed by a dog, where the dog's main goal wasn't to eat the meat but to make a big deal out of it. Though this metaphor might be somewhat inappropriate, it perfectly expressed the thoughts of Gu Ze, a man who was highly sensitive to his surroundings.
With that in mind, Gu Ze decided to stop holding back. He swung a punch that struck half of Sheng Chao's face with lightning speed. Sheng Chao was no pushover either; he immediately retaliated with a punch aimed at Gu Ze's abdomen.
Gu Ze quickly dodged backward. When he saw Sheng Chao sneakily pull out a knife, he let out a cold laugh and bent his knee, forcing Sheng Chao to bend over as well, causing him to lose his aim with the knife. However, Gu Ze had no intention of letting him off easily; he extended his long leg and swept it toward the pained Sheng Chao, forcing him to kneel.
This position was extremely humiliating, but it was the result of their significant power disparity. Sheng Chao felt unwilling to accept defeat and was about to strike again when Gu Ze firmly pressed his neck down against the ground.
The fight didn't last long and wasn't particularly thrilling, but Gu Ze's swift resolution left Wu Yue, who had been frozen in shock, realizing she needed to fight back. Yet she remembered she was a woman and had certain advantages.
"You... you can't hit a woman, can you?"
Wu Yue's words came out breathlessly, yet there was a hint of hope in her voice. But when she met Gu Ze's cold gaze, she understood how naive her expectations were.
"Wu Yue, I'll take you on!"
He Min was still seething with anger as she charged at Wu Yue. The two women instantly became entangled in a fierce struggle. A fight between two women was entirely different from that between two men; they seemed to forget any fighting techniques and just threw themselves into the brawl using their hands, feet, and teeth. The scene quickly turned bizarre.
This wasn't He Min's usual style; she wasn't one to easily lose her composure. However, after observing for some time, it became clear that He Min and Qi Huan did not have a good relationship.
This woman is problematic!
Gu Ze slightly reined in his smile and glanced at Chi Xiaoming, who shook his head in response. A flicker of cold light passed through Gu Ze's eyes.
The fight between He Min and Wu Yue continued; their movements were so comical and somewhat exaggerated that both Gu Ze and Chi Xiaoming lost interest in watching. After all, capturing Sheng Chao was enough for them.
Gu Ze struggled to pull the writhing Sheng Chao back when he heard the injured Qi Huan softly explain, "Wu Yue... she once interfered in the relationship between He Min and Yu Hao, so..."
This was an unexpected development. Gu Ze exchanged a glance with Chi Xiaoming, and they both looked at He Min with a bit more seriousness. They turned their heads away, unaware of the bitter smile that suddenly appeared on Qi Huan's lips. When she saw Sheng Chao looking at her, she bit her lip and fell silent.
When it comes to matters of the heart, most women tend to lose their rationality. Gu Ze and Chi Xiaoming considered this as a reason for He Min's furious behavior. However, they never anticipated that He Min would actually be defeated by Wu Yue, who seemed so timid.
Such a sudden turn of events caught them off guard. Just as Gu Ze pondered what to do next, Xu Nuan returned, charging straight at Wu Yue without hesitation.
"Wu Yue, let Amin go!"
Xu Nuan's return and her aggressive approach were completely unexpected. At that moment, Qi Huan suddenly let out a few muffled sounds, diverting Chi Xiaoming's attention. The weakened Sheng Chao took this opportunity to strike.
This attack caught Gu Ze off guard. He loosened his grip on Sheng Chao, but with his quick reflexes, he managed to dodge the blow.
Seizing the chance, Sheng Chao swiftly ran toward Wu Yue. At that moment, Xu Nuan had her back turned to them. Gu Ze realized something was wrong and quickly followed suit.
However, this time Gu Ze miscalculated; Sheng Chao's target was not Xu Nuan. After running a few meters forward with all his strength, he abruptly turned and dashed into the stone circle. Meanwhile, inexplicably, Wu Yue released He Min and dodged Xu Nuan before following him into the stone circle.
The change came too swiftly, and Gu Ze felt an increasing sense of unease. Yet when his gaze landed on Xu Nuan's concerned smile towards He Min, he reluctantly decided to hold back and wait for a new opportunity.
