"Let's go, get in the car," Xu Tao said softly. 0

A group of people gathered around the railing by the overpass, staring at the massive mushroom cloud in the distance, feeling the heat wave blowing towards them. 0

"Go? Are we really just going to run away like cowards?" Guo Luxing clutched the railing tightly, his fingers pressing so hard that white creases formed under his nails. 0

"What else can we do if we don't leave? Waste time? Wait for more monsters to come, or for that giant creature to arrive? By then, it will be hard for us to leave," Zhang Shi said as he turned and got into the car, the sound of the engine drifting into everyone's ears with the gentle breeze. 0

Yu Shiming walked over and patted Guo Luxing on the shoulder. "Come on, this is life, not an action movie. You could charge in like Chen Rui, but I don't think I can look up to you like I do with him." 0

Everyone returned to the car, and the convoy continued toward the airport. 0

0

"Can I push them to speed up a bit? The progress is too slow right now; we won't make it in time for the flight," Chen Rui said, sitting on the only sofa in the Support Team, legs crossed and holding a freshly brewed bottle of black tea as he spoke to Wang Conghui. 0

"First, that's not my responsibility. Second, once the dream begins, there's no way to change the timing; doing so would be equivalent to waking them up directly," Wang Conghui replied without turning around. 0

"That makes things troublesome." 0

"However, I can let them see the Air Force a bit earlier; maybe that will motivate them to move faster." 0

"Then I'll count on you," Chen Rui smiled. "Who made this black tea? Have they never brewed tea before?" 0

"If you won't drink it, I will," Wang Conghui said, unable to resist turning around and pretending to snatch the cup away. 0

Chen Rui looked at the situation and handed over a teacup. "It seems like it was brewed by your old lover; honestly, it's not that great. Wait, no, it's not an old lover, it's a dream lover. Hahaha." 0

"Get out of here! Where would I find a dream lover? This tea was brewed by Peng Hao; he makes tea quite well with me, Ye Han." With that, Wang Conghui took a light sip. 0

"Really... not bad at all..." Wang Conghui placed the teacup on the computer desk and turned back to focus on the crystal screen. "It's true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder." 0

"Indeed." Chen Rui sighed meaningfully and got up to walk toward the front of the airport. 0

... 0

On the overpass, three vehicles continued to drive toward the airport at a leisurely pace. Due to Chen Rui's 'heroic sacrifice' leading to near annihilation of the Squid, they were still following the plan that prioritized caution as they approached the airport. 0

A buzzing sound came from above, causing everyone, including the driver, to instinctively look up. After all, during these times when monsters were rampant, everyone's nerves were as taut as a stretched string, ready to snap at any moment. 0

However, instead of the anticipated swarm of Squids or other monsters in the sky, there were formations of fighter jets loaded with ammunition, along with low-flying gunships and transport aircraft. 0

The appearance of the Air Force made everyone involuntarily sigh with relief; since landing in Beijing, they hadn't seen any humans, let alone such a reliable military presence. 0

The leading fighter jets and attack aircraft quickly flew out of sight, while the gunships had evidently reached their maximum speed. The transport aircraft flew at cruising speed. Overall, this group consisting of fighter jets at the front, transport aircraft in the middle, and gunships at the rear had almost completely revealed themselves to everyone. 0

Everyone had never anticipated such a welcome sight of military forces; it felt like a shining savior making its grand entrance. 0

"They're too fast! Even the gunships are traveling at over three hundred kilometers per hour; we need to catch up," Xu Tao said. 0

"Are you crazy? Comparing cars to planes? And especially in a damaged vehicle? I really don't trust your driving skills," Xu Yao expressed her concern. 0

"Don't worry, just catch up with them, no, stay close to them," Zeng Zhi said, her expression serious and her tone resolute, as if she were a queen issuing military orders to her subjects. 0

However, Zeng Zhi did not emphasize the key point: the planes were indeed flying along the Overpass, which meant that this group of aircraft was likely heading to the same destination as they were—the airport. 0

The reason for so many Air Force Units heading to the airport could almost be guessed directly: there were unusual creatures in that direction. 0

But hardly anyone considered this point, or perhaps everyone subconsciously avoided it. In a place where monsters roamed freely, there was truly nothing more reliable than being near the military, even if that place might be the enemy's home ground. 0

Soon, the three vehicles spotted the airport, and what stood out even more was the strange spaceship hovering directly above it. 0

It was almost certain that the enemy capable of mobilizing such a large military presence was present; that thing hovering above the airport could essentially be regarded as the enemy's Mothership or brain. 0

The Mothership resembled a giant marine creature native to Earth: a whale. 0

Though it looked like a whale, its size compared to an adult Blue Whale was like comparing an aircraft Mothership to a speedboat; the Mothership was so large that it could nearly cover the surface of Duguo International Airport. 0

Missiles launched from Fighter Jets exploded continuously against the Mothership, and the bright flashes made everyone instinctively want to close their eyes. The three drivers struggled to control their speeding cars, desperately avoiding a catastrophic accident. 0

After being bombarded repeatedly, the Mothership finally began to move. However, it would be better to refer to it as 'whale'—it clearly made a tail-swinging motion and floated in the air, defying Earth's gravity. 0

"Stop!" A massive roar made Xu Tao slam on the brakes. The two vehicles behind him smartly swerved their steering wheels and braked as well, narrowly avoiding a rear-end collision. 0

Once they steadied themselves and took a closer look, they realized they were facing a group of soldiers armed to the teeth. Every member of the team was equipped with General Machine Guns loaded with ammunition, and they all carried Portable Air Defense Missiles on their backs. Their belts were crammed with various types of Grenades. 0

A figure resembling a captain rushed over. "Please give us a ride; take us next to the whale." 0

"Whale?" Xu Yao asked. 0

"That's the one," the captain said, pointing at the enormous creature above, the enemy Mothership. 0

Xu Tao's expression turned troubled. To be honest, at this point, he no longer wanted to live in fear; he longed to charge alongside this team toward the final boss or face death. 0

"We agree," Liu Xiwen shouted, leaning out, needing no prompting from Xu Tao. The two vehicles behind had already understood what was happening. 0

"I have no objections," Zhang Shi added, rolling down his window and giving a thumbs-up. 0

The captain did not exhibit the rich emotions typical of movie characters; he simply waved his hand lightly, and the soldiers behind him trained themselves to board the vehicles. 0

The captain took the passenger seat in Xu Tao's vehicle. Xu Tao couldn't help but smile. "You really don't know how to say a kind word, do you?" 0

"I could forcibly requisition your vehicle. In fact, these vehicles might not even belong to you. Staying here is safer than moving forward; I'm merely acting according to your wishes. So why should you feel grateful?" The captain's philosophical response left Xu Tao feeling a bit dizzy. 0

Xu Tao chuckled bitterly. "Are you really a soldier? I feel like you're more of a philosophy professor." 0

"I'm not a professor, and soon I won't be a soldier either." The captain paused but didn't finish his thought: because we are all about to become martyrs, that is, dead. 0

"It is an extreme honor to accompany future heroes," Xu Tao said as he started the vehicle, continuing toward the airport or perhaps hell. 0

"You will be a hero too; there will surely be a page for you in the epic," the captain joked. 0

"I'm not asking for a page; just having a line would be fortunate enough for me. Why did you land here?" Xu Tao accurately pointed out that they were Airborne Troops. 0

"Our landing zone is actually around here, but we had to land early because of Herschel." 0

"Herschel?" 0

"It's that flying monster, resembling a Squid." 0

0

"Who came up with this ridiculous name? Herschel? Why not call it Sadako instead?" Chen Rui nearly spat out the mineral water he had just taken a sip of, almost hitting Xiong Kai. 0

"Isn't it those idiots from the plot department? Weren't you supposed to be checking on the passengers? Why are you back here?" Xiong Kai retorted. 0

"What’s so interesting about the passengers? Just confirming their physical condition is enough. It's way more entertaining to watch them here, like watching a movie, and it's so realistic." 0

"You, huh." 0

"What’s wrong with me?" Chen Rui asked, puzzled. "I'm a serious and responsible young man, positive and successful, the head of the Action Team. What’s wrong with that?" 0

"Nothing much, but it seems like the plot is still lagging behind." Xiong Kai's fingers danced across the keyboard. 0

The sound of the mechanical keyboard echoed throughout the Record Office. 0

"What have you done?" Chen Rui asked disinterestedly, continuing to stare at the monitor. 0

"I brought out the giant beast as well. The outcome might be worse, but at least we can catch up on the plot." 0

"Such brutality, I hope they don't have a mental breakdown or something." 0

"They shouldn't, after all, it's been over a year and their stress tolerance should have increased to a basic level. They shouldn't have a mental breakdown, right?" Xiong Kai stretched lazily and moved his neck. "I'm really tired." 0

"You've worked hard!" Chen Rui patted Xiong Kai on the shoulder. 0

"You can't be serious about being gay, can you? Keep your distance from me. Although you're good-looking, I'm not into men." 0

"Get lost!" 0

... 0

A loud bang and tremor signaled the approach of an extremely dangerous creature. Without needing to look, everyone knew what it was; just not long ago, they had played a life-and-death game with this giant. 0

"All members, prepare for battle," the captain said into the intercom. He rolled down the window, resting his gun on the ledge and aiming at the massive beast that was about to enter their firing range. 0

"We're getting close to the whale! What do we do next?" Xu Tao shouted at the captain. Due to the open window, the sound of the wind made it impossible for normal speech to reach each other's ears. 0

"Get underneath the whale; just get close but don’t be directly beneath it. Everyone, be alert and fire at will!" With that, only the sound of gunfire echoed around the convoy. 0
