Yu Tian was grateful for the support he received. Everyone knew how important it was to study this phenomenon. He had intended to insert the detector to investigate, but no matter what he did, he couldn't make a hole. With no way to proceed, he decided to attach it to the surface and let Hong analyze it.
The results were promising; they had basically figured out the purpose of this object. It turned out to be a device for generating energy, and it was more advanced than any machinery on Earth. Its pure energy seemed to be created through replication rather than conversion.
As Yu Tian watched the energy levels on the computer screen multiply, he felt a mix of joy and helplessness.
Lin approached, seemingly understanding something while also appearing puzzled.
"Brother, how do we activate this thing?" Lin looked at Hong, eagerly awaiting an answer.
"It's quite simple. When we entered the cave and turned on the car lights, we indirectly activated it," Yu Tian explained. Lin nodded, and at that moment, Yu Tian truly felt the gap between civil and military prowess. However, this was just a guess, and he had no idea if it was correct.
Suddenly, Yu Tian noticed that the values on the screen had turned negative. "Hong, what's going on?" Yu Tian pointed at the screen.
"Let me think! This really contradicts the law of conservation of energy, which has been established for thousands of years. How could this happen?"
Just then, a piercing scream echoed from somewhere nearby. Yu Tian and Hong immediately became alert and quickly stood up. Hong switched off the computer while Yu Tian drew his Atomic Beam Gun from his waist.
They both rushed toward the source of the sound. At that moment, Lin appeared, but her face had lost all color and looked extremely pale.
As soon as Lin saw them, she ran over. Seeing her disheveled state made Yu Tian realize something was wrong, but he still had no idea what had actually happened.
"Little sister, what's wrong? You look so disheveled!" Yu Tian was about to say something, but Hong spoke first, and he had no choice but to stop.
"Brother, there are many white bones in that cave; it's terrifying!" Yu Tian felt a sense of relief, but at the same time, he was filled with confusion. "Could there be other creatures on this planet?" He quickly scolded himself, "In an environment like this, it's not surprising if there are living beings."
Lin and Hong looked at the dazed Yu Tian and asked, "Captain, what's wrong?"
Yu Tian snapped back to reality and smiled sheepishly. "It's nothing!"
He walked past them and moved forward. Under Lin's guidance, they entered the cave first. Yu Tian tucked his gun into his waistband and hurried to catch up.
As soon as Yu Tian stepped inside, Lin and Hong were already stunned. He himself was taken aback by the vast pile of beast bones before him.
Unintentionally, a vague feeling began to rise in Yu Tian's heart. At that moment, fragments long buried in his memory started surfacing incessantly, causing a sharp pain in his head. Yu Tian hugged his head and crouched down, struggling in agony. He unconsciously let out a heavy breath.
"Captain, what's wrong?" Yu Tian looked up and saw Lin's pale yet gentle face; those fragments suddenly vanished. He felt a hazy connection with Lin, but he couldn't quite articulate what it was.
They had turned around to face Yu Tian.
He stood up and patted their shoulders. "It's fine now!"
"Captain, I thought something happened to you! I'm glad you're okay!"
Just as he was about to joke with Lin, he looked up and saw a green claw covered in matted fur reaching out from among the scattered bones. A ferocious head followed suit. It was a monster, its sharp teeth bared as it drooled menacingly.
"Move quickly!" Yu Tian shouted as he pushed them out.
However, just as Yu Tian was about to rush out, a claw snagged his clothing. Despite being a martial arts instructor with the combat prowess of a cosmic warrior, he remained calm. With a swift roll, he freed himself from the claw and kicked at the creature, forcing it back a few steps. Another monster emerged from the bones, and Yu Tian thought to himself, "I can't keep fighting!"
At that moment, Lin's voice called out, "Captain, get in the car!" Without hesitation, Yu Tian dashed outside. Just as he got into the vehicle, a wave of pain surged through him again.
Yu Tian collapsed inside the car, but his mind insisted that he could not afford to fall unconscious. Summoning his last bit of strength, he shouted as strange red vines attacked: "Activate the magnetic field shield and the devouring flow!"
The surroundings darkened, and he lost consciousness.
Time passed—he couldn't tell how long—before he felt a throbbing headache and gradually regained awareness. When he lifted his head, he saw Lin resting beside him. A flicker of joy crossed Yu Tian's face. It turned out that even orphans had someone who cared for them! This thought filled him with warmth, and he resolved to change his reckless ways for her sake.
He carefully pulled back the covers, trying not to wake Lin.
After putting on a jacket, he stepped out of his cabin and walked slowly toward the control room. As soon as he entered, he spotted Hong deeply engrossed in his work; he had always been dedicated to his tasks.
"Hong, still working?" Yu Tian asked with concern as he approached him.
Hong turned his head. "Captain, you're awake?"
Noticing the dark circles under Hong's eyes, Yu Tian couldn't help but feel worried. "He's my teammate after all; he might have been the one who saved me!"
"How long have you been at it?"
Hong turned his head back, "Not long, just two days without sleep!" He smiled awkwardly.
Yu Tian's face froze. "Two days?"
"How long have I been sleeping?" Yu Tian couldn't remember the days and asked, "Hong, how long have I been out?"
Unbeknownst to them, Lin had also woken up and came out when she noticed Yu Tian was not in bed. Hong happened to see her and said, "Captain, you should ask your great Benefactor; she has been with you for three whole days."
From Hong's words, Yu Tian realized he had been asleep for three days. He was initially surprised, but who was this "great Benefactor"?
"Hong, who is it?"
"Who else could it be but the big fool behind you!"
"Behind me!" Yu Tian curiously turned around and saw Lin looking over awkwardly. A strange sense of gratitude welled up in Yu Tian's heart, and he recalled Dr. S's words: "Don't you still not have a girlfriend?" He didn't know why, but his racing heart answered his question. Turning back around, he felt a flush on his face; fortunately, Hong still hadn't turned to look.
Yu Tian let out a sigh of relief but realized he had forgotten something when he heard Lin's footsteps behind him; she shyly ran away.
Yu Tian never managed to say thank you. He balanced his thoughts and shifted his attention back to Hong.
Adjusting the driver's seat, Yu Tian sat down next to him.
