When I finished speaking, the Bearded Man was momentarily stunned, but he quickly reacted. He turned his head sharply, and the female corpse was standing right in front of him, glaring with blood-red eyes. As he turned, the female corpse lunged directly at him.
The Bearded Man was incredibly quick; he grabbed a Marauder beside him and used him as a shield. A scream followed, and the poor guy was out of luck. The female corpse bit into his neck, just like before, blood began to flow, and the Marauder's body instantly shriveled up, his skin turning a deep black.
Meanwhile, the female corpse was regaining her beauty. Aside from her blood-red eyes, which looked just like when I first saw her, everyone present was stunned by the scene before them. Even I was taken aback. Despite the intense gunfire earlier, I knew she couldn't die, but how could she emerge unscathed? I couldn't fathom the extent of her power.
After she finished draining the Marauder, she grabbed his shoulders with both hands and violently tore him in half. Blood dripped from her mouth as her blood-red eyes scanned everyone in the room. I could see murderous intent in her terrifying gaze; she intended to bring us to our doom.
This time, the Bearded Man was no longer arrogant. They all began to retreat. The female corpse suddenly opened her mouth and let out a scream that sounded like a demon's, shaking the entire Wreck. I quickly covered my ears; her voice seemed to have some kind of magic that pierced straight through my heart. I felt as if I couldn't catch my breath.
The Bearded Man was dumbfounded as well. Terrified, he hurriedly fired his pistol wildly, and several other subordinates joined in a frenzied barrage. The female corpse's screams ceased, but everyone else was howling as if they had gone mad. Fear spread rapidly, and chaos erupted with shouts and gunfire filling the cabin.
Surrounded by darkness, everything unfolded in just a matter of seconds. When I regained my senses amidst their panic, I knew I had to make a run for it while they were in disarray. Shunzi and Jiao Ba were huddled on the ground with their heads down. I rushed over and pulled them up, shouting, "What are you doing? Let's go!"
The three of us quickly moved toward the cabin door. However, the water beneath our feet was too deep for us to run; we could only wade forward through it. Just as we reached the doorway, I sensed something was off—the water beneath us began to churn violently and intensified.
Jiao Ba suddenly shouted beside me, "Not good, Brother Yi! It's those damn Bloodsucker Worms! What do we do?"
Shunzi also yelled frantically, "Brother Yi! Let's charge out! We’ll fight them!"
In the dark waters below lurked countless Bloodsucker Worms. If we charged out recklessly, we would surely die: "Charge out? Are you crazy? Quickly close the hatch!" I shouted at the top of my lungs. The three of us grabbed hold of the Hatch and exerted all our strength against it, but it remained tightly shut as if resisting us.
"Ah~~ Brother Yi, something is biting me down there, save me Brother Yi!" Shunzi cried out in pain.
"Quick, close it tightly!" I was also losing my mind; if this continued, we would end up as companions to those Bones.
Once the Hatch was closed, Shunzi collapsed into the sea, thrashing and struggling in agony. I rushed over and grabbed him, pulling him up from the water with all my strength.
Jiao Ba quickly swatted away the Bloodsucker Worms clinging to him. Those cursed things had razor-sharp teeth; in just a moment, Shunzi was covered in blood, barely able to hold on. If I hadn't been supporting him, he would have drowned in the sea by now.
At that moment, Jiao Ba swiftly grabbed a Bloodsucker Worm and slammed it against the ship's Hatch. He repeated this several times until the Bloodsucker Worm was crushed, spewing out a mass of green liquid. It splattered onto Jiao Ba's hands, and he hurriedly dipped them into the seawater to wash off the mess.
I couldn't afford to worry about Jiao Ba right now; I had to quickly pull Shunzi away. But soon enough, Jiao Ba was surrounded by other Bloodsucker Worms. Without a second thought, I rushed over to help him. After making sure Shunzi was safe, I hurried to support Jiao Ba. The most frustrating part was that I didn't even have a knife; I could only fight with my bare hands and feet.
I charged in, kicking and hitting wildly. When I caught one of the Bloodsucker Worms, I slammed it against the Hatch with all my might. Unfortunately, I miscalculated, and the green goo sprayed all over my face. Instantly, my face felt like it was on fire, burning painfully as if engulfed in flames. I screamed out in agony.
"Brother Yi, quickly rinse it off with seawater!" Jiao Ba shouted nearby.
As soon as he finished speaking, I plunged into the sea, rubbing my face vigorously with my hands. The burning sensation gradually faded once I made contact with the seawater. After a fierce battle filled with bloodshed, Jiao Ba and I finally managed to temporarily deal with those Bloodsucker Worms. The cost was high: my arm was covered in blood, my face injured, and Jiao Ba's legs were drenched in blood with wounds that seemed quite deep.
Exhausted, I sat down in the water. Jiao Ba did the same. We leaned on each other’s shoulders as I gasped for breath and asked, "How are you? Are you okay?"
Jiao Ba replied lazily, "I’m not dead yet."
We helped each other stand up. In our frantic efforts against the Bloodsucker Worms earlier, we hadn’t noticed that the gunfire in the cabin had long ceased. Now everything around us had fallen into darkness again—so quiet it was frightening. The temperature inside the cabin was low; the seawater felt icy cold against our skin.
“Shunzi, where are you?” I called out tentatively, afraid to move recklessly.
“Brother Yi, I'm here! Where are you?” Shunzi's faint voice came from ahead. It seemed he was still alive, but judging by his tone, death was not far off.
Jiao Ba and I felt our way forward in the darkness. Just a few steps in, I kicked something with my foot. I crouched down to feel it; it seemed like a person. Could it be Shunzi?
I quickly knelt and helped him up, calling out, “Shunzi! Shunzi! It's me.”
“Yi... Brother Yi, I'm here.” My head buzzed. Shunzi's voice was still ahead of me; it wasn't the person I was holding. Who could this person be?
“Lao Ba, quickly look around for a flashlight,” Jiao Ba said as we both began to search the area. Without a light source, we were like blind men, unable to see anything.
“Brother Yi, I found one! It's here.” Jiao Ba reached out and handed me the flashlight. I hurriedly turned it on and shone it underwater. In front of me lay a shriveled, blackened corpse, its dead fish-like eyes staring at me with a twisted expression on its face. My heart tightened, and I stumbled back in shock.
But there was something behind me too. I turned and shone the flashlight again—another shriveled, blackened corpse. What on earth had happened? I raised the flashlight to look around, and my fear escalated once more. The black water mixed with blood carried a strong scent of decay. Bodies of Bearded Man's subordinates littered the entire cabin, their deaths horrifyingly grotesque. My God! What had just happened...?
