We were already quite familiar with this Dark Sea Area, and without the obstruction of the Sting Horse Colt, our mindset was calm and relaxed, far removed from the tension we had felt in the past.
It didn't take long for us to reach the entrance of the Wreck. We opened the Hatch and headed straight for the last cabin. During this time, the toxin from the Corpse Grass affected us once again, but after experiencing it twice before, we seemed to have gotten used to it; that sense of hallucination quickly faded away.
The entrance to the dark layer was still open. Last time, we hadn't had time to close it while fleeing. Mike gestured for us to follow him as he led the way through the narrow passage. One by one, we moved deeper inside.
Mai Lao took the lead, while I brought up the rear, with Jiao Ba ahead of me. As we approached the wooden door, Jiao Ba suddenly turned around and quietly signaled with his left hand, 'Stay close to me and don’t leave my sight.'
I didn’t understand what he meant, but I knew it wasn’t a joke.
After opening the wooden door, we entered a chaotic burial ground littered with Bones. The moment I stepped in, I felt uncomfortable all over, as if the souls of the dead were swirling around me.
We continued deeper into the area, and the gate to the forbidden zone became increasingly clear. When we reached it, Mai Lao stopped first. The gate was firmly shut. I remembered that last time it had almost trapped me; how could this heavy iron door close on its own?
I decided to use my Underwater Light to scan around but found nothing unusual. Then Jiao Ba quickly moved to Mai Lao's side, and they began communicating with gestures.
Jiao Ba seemed to be telling him that once this forbidden gate opened, it could close at any moment. However, he didn’t know how long it would stay open, so someone had to remain outside. He also informed Mai Lao that only one of the three coffins contained a corpse and that everyone needed to stay close and not move recklessly.
Mai Lao agreed with his assessment. We briefly discussed who would stay behind and ultimately decided that Shunzi and Li Xin would wait outside. Naturally, they were reluctant at first, especially Li Xin, who insisted on coming along. But Mai Lao was firm and wouldn’t allow any objections.
The two had no choice but to suppress their frustration and patiently wait at the door while we moved to open it. With a screeching sound and a powerful cold gust hitting us, the gate of the forbidden zone opened once more.
My Underwater Light flickered unexpectedly like last time but quickly returned to normal. At that moment, I felt a surge of anxiety; from outside, all I could see was darkness within.
I exchanged glances with Mai Lao; he nodded and waved his hand as he entered first. Jiao Ba and I followed closely behind along with the others. This time we stayed tightly grouped together for safety, ensuring we could keep an eye on each other.
The forbidden zone was still freezing cold; it felt as if my blood was about to freeze solid. It was like an icehouse inside. We all kept moving our bodies until we slightly acclimated to our surroundings.
Once again, I saw those golden jewels sparkling around us in the forbidden zone. I knew they were merely illusions, yet they seemed to possess some kind of magic that irresistibly drew us forward. This time, the hallucinations felt even more intense than before.
I shook my head vigorously; I absolutely couldn’t let the Corpse Grass's influence cloud my mind—otherwise, even if I had a hundred lives, I wouldn’t be able to walk out alive.
I turned my head to glance at Big Guy beside me but was startled to find him missing; where had Big Guy gone?
I hurriedly looked around with the Underwater Light. Not far to my left, the Big Guy was unknowingly drifting toward those deadly golden objects. I instinctively wanted to shout at the people ahead, but deep underwater, I couldn't make a sound.
Suddenly, I had an idea. I quickly turned off the Underwater Light and then turned it back on, flashing it repeatedly. This tactic proved effective; before long, Mai Lao and the others stopped moving.
I didn't have time to explain anything and swiftly swam to the left. Seeing me move, Mai Lao and the others quickly followed. The Big Guy was getting closer and closer to me, just as he reached out to grab the gold.
In a rush, I reached out and grabbed his neck, pulling him back forcefully. I expected him to struggle fiercely, but he didn't. He was as still as a corpse, not moving at all.
I loosened my grip on his arm and flipped his body over. At that moment, I noticed that his eyes were glazed over, completely vacant, resembling someone on the brink of death.
I immediately grabbed his shoulders and shook him vigorously, but he still showed no reaction, staring blankly at me. What the hell happened? He seemed fine just a moment ago!
At that moment, Jiao Ba hurried over. He grabbed the Big Guy's Breathing Apparatus and cut off his oxygen supply. It startled me; was he trying to kill him? But a few seconds later, I saw the effect.
The Big Guy's body twitched a couple of times before he suddenly woke up. Jiao Ba then released his grip and gestured to him, 'Are you okay? Stay close.'
The Big Guy nodded dumbly, but his purplish face looked quite abnormal. I patted his shoulder, signaling him to stick close to me.
Seeing that everything was fine, Mai Lao urged us to move quickly. Time was limited; the main gate could close at any moment, so we had to seize every second as we swam toward the depths of the forbidden area.
This time, Jiao Ba led the way at the front. As he began to swim upward little by little, I knew we were almost there. With the help of several strong lights, the image of a coffin gradually came into view.
Soon enough, Jiao Ba stopped in front of the coffin. Mai Lao gestured to him and asked, 'Is this it?'
Jiao Ba nodded and gestured back, 'It should be.'
Mai Lao asked him again seriously with urgent gestures, 'Can you be sure?' His expression seemed strange; although he appeared anxious, he looked remarkably calm.
Jiao Ba gestured again, 'Don't worry; it can't be wrong.'
Mike waved his hand, and we spread out around the coffin, floating on either side of it. The last time we came to this forbidden area, I hadn't had a chance to examine it closely before we hurriedly escaped.
This time, I used my Underwater Light to observe carefully. The coffin was pitch black; when illuminated by the light, its dark color appeared particularly ominous. Its size was almost identical to that of the coffin from the Qing Dynasty Shipwreck we had encountered before.
The appearance showed no signs of change at all. Due to the significant impact that the Coffin Corpse had on me before, I remembered it vividly. This coffin was intact, never opened, with the nails firmly secured in the lid.
The only difference now was that it was suspended in mid-air, supported by a few wooden beams the size of bowls beneath it. I was surprised that after hundreds of years, these beams had not decayed; this truly broadened my understanding.
I reached out and touched the lid of the coffin. It was icy cold, and a powerful chill instantly surged into my palm, racing through my entire body. I quickly withdrew my hand to recover.
Mai Lao gestured to Jiao Ba, asking, "Shall we proceed?"
Jiao Ba signaled back, "Let's do it."
We each placed our hands under the coffin. When I made contact with it again, the cold quickly spread to my arms. There was no choice but to grit my teeth and endure it.
We exchanged glances and nodded at each other before simultaneously exerting our strength upward. The coffin was indeed heavy, but with so many of us, we managed to lift it quickly.
Then we hurriedly dove underneath the coffin. Except for Mai Lao and Jiao Ba, each of us took a corner and braced ourselves against it with our shoulders.
Jiao Ba stood at the front directing us, "Follow me."
Just as we were about to move, a loud crash echoed through the air, and suddenly, the forbidden area underwent a dramatic transformation...
