At that moment, I was completely stunned. How could Jiao Ba be lying in this coffin? His pale face looked as lifeless as a corpse, and the worst part was that he was staring at me with eyes wide open, unblinking.
I stumbled back two steps, a chill running down my spine, cold sweat instantly soaking my body. At the same time, I heard a strange sound behind me.
I froze for a moment, then quickly turned around, my Paratrooper Knife drawn swiftly. Unfortunately, before I could hurt anyone, a large hand clamped down tightly on my arm. Behind me stood a tall figure with conical cat-like eyes—it was the man in black.
He revealed an evil grin, and in the moonlight, I recognized a familiar face. My eyes widened as his body moved quickly; then, with a flash of cold light, the blade came rushing toward my neck. I felt a chill at my throat and suddenly everything went dark...
I jolted awake, quickly reaching to touch my neck—there were no wounds; everything was intact. Yet I was drenched in sweat.
Sitting up, I looked around. I was still on top of the fishing boat; nothing had changed. What had just happened was merely a nightmare, but it felt so real.
My eyes were slightly moist. I reached up to touch them and found traces of tears; it seemed I had truly cried. Everything that occurred in the dream was still vividly etched in my memory.
Everyone on the boat was dead except for Shunzi, whose whereabouts were unknown. The bloody and brutal scene replayed in my mind, making my head buzz.
Especially the last scene—the man in black was actually him. But what did it all mean? I clearly remembered observing the situation from the top of the boat; how could I have fallen asleep without reason? It seemed impossible given how urgent things were—how could I possibly have fallen asleep?
I carefully recalled the situation at that time. About an hour later, I seemed to have caught a whiff of something fragrant, and after smelling it, I felt like I had entered a dream.
It appeared that the problem lay with that fragrance. Could it be... that I had been poisoned? I should have realized that in this vast ocean, where could such a scent come from? That itself was suspicious; someone must have deliberately set a trap for me.
Oh no! What time is it? I quickly checked the time. Damn! It was already past midnight—I had been unconscious for over three hours!
I hurriedly looked towards the fishing boat of the Bearded Man, but there was no signal coming from that direction. It was eerily quiet, and the boat floated alone on the sea, exuding an air of mysterious strangeness.
I was starting to feel anxious; it had been over three hours. If someone had left the fishing boat, I would have no way of knowing. There was also no news from Jiao Ba's side, and I couldn't tell if he hadn't sent a signal or if he had already done so.
If there was no signal, that would be somewhat reassuring, as it would at least mean no one had left the boat. But if a signal had been sent, that would be bad news—it would mean someone had indeed departed, and I was still in the dark about it. Jiao Ba must be frantic by now.
Moreover, if that person boarded the Bearded Man's fishing boat, I feared for Jiao Ba's safety. Just thinking about what happened in my dream sent a chill down my spine; it was truly terrifying.
What should I do now? Just as I was feeling overwhelmed, I suddenly noticed a flickering light not far away on the Bearded Man's fishing boat. It was the flash of a flashlight.
This was a signal from Jiao Ba. The flickering of the flashlight was rapid, clearly an urgent signal. It seemed someone had already boarded the boat, yet there was still no movement on my end; I hadn't noticed anyone leaving.
Never mind; I couldn't dwell on that any longer. I quickly prepared to head down from the top of the boat when it suddenly struck me—this scene felt so familiar. Wasn't it just like what happened in my dream? Could it be that everything earlier wasn't just a dream but rather a form of precognition? My mind felt a bit muddled.
I glanced across again; the flashlight continued to flicker. I didn't have time to think further. Grabbing my flashlight, I jumped down from the top of the boat and headed straight for the Rest Cabin. The passage in the cabin remained silent; apart from the lights, there were no other sounds—exactly like what I had experienced in my dream.
My heart raced. Could this really be an omen? I quietly approached the hatch and slowly opened it. The room inside was pitch black; I hesitated to turn on the light because I feared seeing a scene identical to that in my dream.
I took out my flashlight and began checking each bed. When I saw someone sleeping on one of them, my racing heart finally calmed down. If I listened closely, I could even hear soft snoring—it seemed I had merely frightened myself; everything from my dream was just nonsense.
I checked each bed one by one; Jiao Ba's bed was empty, which was normal. But when I shone my light on Shunzi's bed, I froze in shock because it too was empty—Shunzi was missing!
The bedding on his bed was disheveled. I hurried over and reached out to touch it; it was still warm, indicating he had left not long ago. Coupled with Jiao Ba's earlier urgent signal, I couldn't help but suspect that this person must be Shunzi. The figure from my dream—the man in black—had that familiar face; it was indeed Shunzi.
I gasped sharply and quickly exited the cabin. To ensure nothing went wrong, I decided to check Jenny and their Rest Cabin. Just as I stepped out, using the dim light, I noticed someone seemingly watching me at the entrance of the cabin.
I immediately turned my head, and at that moment, I saw a shadow flash past the cabin entrance. The speed was so fast it was hard to describe, almost identical to the scene I had seen in my dream.
It took me a full two seconds to react before I quickly accelerated and chased after it. I even forgot to check the other cabins. After bursting out of the cabin, I found the deck completely empty.
According to the plot of my dream, this person should have gone overboard. I ran to the edge of the ship and looked towards the sea surface. Not far away, a figure was swiftly swimming towards the Bearded Man's fishing boat and was already getting close.
It was just like in my dream; this person's silhouette and speed were no different from that of the previous figure in black. The only thing I couldn't see clearly was their face. I looked up at the fishing boat across from me, where the signal lights were still flashing rapidly. I recalled the scene from my dream—the coffin contained Jiao Ba's body.
Thinking of this, I leaped into the sea, heading straight for the Bearded Man's fishing boat. No matter what, I had to do my best to salvage everything. I swam quickly, and upon reaching the fishing boat, I climbed up to the bow using the lifeline.
The wind on the deck was quite strong, making it difficult for me to open my eyes. I managed to take a look around; that coffin was indeed no longer there. My heart sank instantly. I glanced around again, and sure enough, there was nothing on the deck. I began to feel anxious.
The passage leading to the cabin was shrouded in darkness. I tried the switch, but it was broken. I immediately drew my Paratrooper Knife, turned on my flashlight, and moved cautiously along the passage. The strong beam barely illuminated the middle of the passage.
Both hatches on either side of the ship were wide open, and tension made my heart race. Instead of checking any of the cabins, I headed straight for the last one. However, as I reached the middle of the passage, I suddenly heard sounds of fighting coming from inside. Without hesitation, I sprinted toward it.
When I reached the last cabin, I shone my flashlight inside and was instantly dumbfounded—how could there be two figures in black...?
