I cursed under my breath; that was Scarred Face's voice. The worst part was that it came from the last cabin. That bastard had sneaked over there by himself. This was bad; something was definitely going to happen.
Mai Lao heard someone calling him and quickly waved us over. I exchanged a helpless glance with Jiao Bayi, and we had no choice but to follow.
At that moment, Scarred Face stood at the door of the last cabin. Mai Lao rushed over and asked, "What's going on? Why the panic?"
"Mai Lao, look at that coffin; someone has already opened it," Scarred Face replied, his tone filled with anger, as if he were blaming Mai Lao.
Mai Lao led us into the cabin and shone a flashlight around, saying, "How... how did this coffin get opened? Which of you did this?" His gaze swept over us, and I managed to keep my composure, shaking my head in feigned ignorance.
"I definitely didn't touch it with Big Guy. As for the others... who knows?" Scarred Face directed his suspicion at me and Jiao Ba, his eyes filled with doubt.
"Hey Scarred Face, why are you looking at us? We didn't do anything," I said darkly, staring back at him. Logically speaking, the first person to open the coffin was the Cat-Eyed Man in Black; Jiao Ba and I had merely taken advantage of the situation.
"You know best whether it was you or not. Disappearing in the middle of the night and then suddenly reappearing—don't think we're so easy to fool," Scarred Face sneered, his contempt growing more evident.
His words struck a chord with me; after all, I felt guilty and couldn't say much more. But what I did was for everyone’s sake—I hoped to unravel all these mysteries soon. Yet some things just couldn't be voiced; I had to swallow my frustration.
"Enough arguing; let's check what else is in the coffin," Mai Lao said as he started to move closer.
Jiao Ba immediately stepped forward to stop him. "Mai Lao, don't go near it; it's dangerous." He looked at Mai Lao with a determined expression, illuminated by the moonlight, making him appear quite manly.
"It's just a coffin; how dangerous can it be? I'm going to take a look," Scarred Face declared as he walked over. I wanted to dissuade him, but Scarred Face completely ignored me and circled around.
The black mist surrounding the coffin had dissipated, and the temperature in the cabin had returned to normal. Yet I couldn't shake off the feeling that this was like the calm before a storm; what lay ahead was unimaginable. My palms were sweaty, and my chest ached faintly.
Scarred Face reached the coffin and shone his flashlight inside. Turning back towards us, he said, "Look at how scared you all are; there's nothing here—just a rotting corpse. Let me see if there are any treasures left."
What? A rotting corpse? This was bad; that female corpse had broken through the talisman! Just as Scarred Face finished speaking, there was a muffled thud followed by a loud crash. Instantly, a thick black mist spread throughout the cabin, enveloping everything until we could see nothing at all.
Everyone was coughing from the choking smoke. Mike shouted, "Cough, cough... everyone, don't move around. Try to stay together."
I waved my hands in front of me as the black mist gradually dissipated. I saw Scarface standing with his back to me, still in front of the coffin, but his body was swaying back and forth lightly.
I hurried over and slapped him on the shoulder, saying, "Come on, Scarface, don't just stand there."
But as soon as I slapped him, Scarface's head fell off, blood gushing out like a fountain, and his body collapsed to the ground with a thud.
My face and clothes were instantly drenched in red. I stared blankly at what had just happened; it was a horrifying scene. Soon, Scarface's blood had soaked the floor, and his head lay at my feet.
I looked down at his head; his eyes bulged out, mouth wide open in shock. The area around his neck was a bloody mess, making my heart race with fear.
I wiped my face with my hand in a panic, but my heart was pounding wildly. It would be a lie to say I wasn't scared; Scarface's death was simply unbearable to accept. The feeling of terror still stimulated my brain, and most importantly, I had no idea how he had died.
I forced myself to remain as calm as possible; otherwise, I would have already broken down. My accelerated breathing was proof of that; I felt like a startled bird on the verge of losing control.
As the black mist continued to clear, moonlight shone back into the cabin. When the moonlight illuminated the coffin again, I was stunned once more—the coffin was empty; the female corpse had vanished.
I used my flashlight to confirm again that the corpse was indeed gone. Aside from a broken Paratrooper Knife blade, there was nothing else in the coffin. My head buzzed, and veins throbbed at my temples.
Still shaken, I stepped back several paces, cold sweat covering my body once again. A chill ran down my spine as I stared fearfully at the back of the coffin, not daring to blink. I was genuinely afraid that the female corpse would suddenly lunge at me.
"Oh my God, what... what is happening? How could this be?" Jenny's terrified voice came from behind me. The surrounding flashlight beams lit up the cabin brightly; they must have seen the bloody scene by now.
"My God! It's... it's Scarface! Scarface is dead! He... he's dead!" Big Guy's trembling voice echoed behind me.
I could imagine their first reaction upon seeing this scene—a profound fear that pierced through their souls, an agonizing dread from within. Scarface's death elevated everyone's fear to an extreme level; the cabin exuded an air of death that sent chills down our spines.
"Brother Yi, are you okay?"
It was the shout of Shunzi that reached my ears, followed by the sound of his footsteps. I quickly turned my head and yelled, "Shunzi, don't come over! Take Jenny and the others and get out of here, hurry! Mai Lao, you all need to leave now!"
I had no idea where the female corpse was, but I knew deep down that she must be close by. Once she started her rampage, none of us would escape unharmed. All I could do was buy some time, hoping to get Jenny and the others off the fishing boat first.
Just as I finished speaking, I felt something drop onto my forehead. It dripped steadily, as if water was leaking from above. I reached up to touch it; it was sticky and gooey, and I couldn't tell what it was.
Then I sniffed it, and that nearly made me vomit. The foul stench was reminiscent of a decaying corpse. What the hell was this?
At that moment, I heard Jiao Ba's trembling voice behind me. "Yi... Brother Yi, above your head! Above your head!"
Suddenly, realization struck me like a lightning bolt. I quickly looked up, flashlight in hand. When I saw what was above me, I could hardly believe my eyes. My God, the female corpse was right above the cabin ceiling! That sticky substance was oozing from her mouth.
More drops of that disgusting liquid fell onto my face. Holding the flashlight, I stared at the corpse above me. Her skin was no longer smooth; it had turned rotten, flesh hanging in chunks and blackened.
Her hair hung loose around her face, and her back was pressed against the cabin ceiling as if glued there like a magnet.
Her eyes glowed red, and her purple-black nails looked devilish, sending chills down my spine. Surrounding her was a swirling black mist that instantly dropped the temperature in the cabin, making us shiver uncontrollably.
I shouted with a trembling voice, "Run... run now..."
