When Vivian stepped into the room filled with arcs and wails, the tense atmosphere seemed to ease slightly with her arrival. Red-eye Rein retracted the dancing currents in his hand, and the man who had been mercilessly tortured finally got a brief respite. His heavy breathing echoed in the silent room, as if proving to the world that the flame of his life still burned.
Rein turned his gaze to Vivian, his deep red eyes seeming to penetrate the heart. His voice was indifferent but with a hint of amusement, "Oh... Poison, have you caught the little troublemaker who trespassed into our territory?" In front of the ruler of this post-apocalyptic world, every word seemed to hide a myriad of meanings.
Just as Vivian was about to respond, an unexpected voice came from the other side of the room. It was a deep male voice, calm yet unquestionably authoritative, "No... they didn't, that person... has returned to the outskirts." This sudden interruption added to the already tense atmosphere.
All eyes immediately turned to the source of the voice, where a beam of firelight shone through the window behind, illuminating a man sitting behind a distant sofa. His figure appeared particularly mysterious in the firelight, sitting relaxed yet exuding an undeniable presence, as if the entire room's air was under his control.
Rein's expression changed slightly, showing recognition and respect for the equal dialogue partner. From his attitude, it was not difficult to see that this man held a very high position within their organization. Vivian also immediately closed her mouth, knowing that in front of this man, any explanation or report would be unnecessary.
This mysterious man, his presence, his words, once again proved the complex power structure within the organization, as well as the complexity and variability of human nature in the face of doomsday.
Mud maintained silence during the confrontation between Vivian and Rein, his gaze not daring to linger in the room for too long, especially when Tanshao's voice suddenly sounded. He could clearly feel every tremor of Vivian's body conveying her inner anger. Mud knew that silence at this moment was the best choice, as any unnecessary words could become a new point of eruption.
Tanshao, a figure shrouded in mystery in The Curse of the Wild. Despite being blind, his radar detection ability made him an indispensable presence within the organization. His addition not only greatly enhanced The Curse of the Wild's control and predictive ability over the surrounding environment, but also allowed them to more accurately capture the so-called "supplies" in the wasteland of Rado City, whether they were goods or unfortunate survivors who entered their line of sight.
Mud is full of awe and a little bit of dread towards Tanshao. Tanshao's joining has clearly changed the internal power structure of The Curse of the Wild, and in some aspects, his opinions can directly influence Rein's decisions. This ability is undoubtedly rare and powerful for a blind person.
In this post-apocalyptic world, everyone is searching for their own place, and Tanshao has found his position through his unique abilities. But for Mud, this position seems too close to the core of power, and therefore, every time Tanshao intervenes, Mud feels a little uneasy.
Vivian trembled as she stood in front of Rein, her eyes filled with conflict and unease. She took a deep breath, trying to make her voice sound firm and without weakness, "Boss... we didn't catch the intruder... but we caught his dog..." Her words carried a hint of hope, wishing to somehow appease Rein's anger.
Rein's gaze was cold, and he slowly walked over to the pile of Steel Bone Wild Dogs that Chuchan was dragging. The eyes of these wild dogs were filled with fear and unease as they huddled together, trying to find some warmth in this cold organization. Rein simply looked at them indifferently, as if evaluating the value of these dogs.
Afterwards, Rein turned around, his steps heavy and powerful, each one feeling like a heavy blow to Vivian's heart. He stopped in front of Vivian, his gaze sharp as a knife, as if he could see through her soul. "Tell me... my good girl Vivian," his voice low and threatening, "why didn't you catch the intruder? Wasn't there only one person?" Rein's right hand slowly lifted, his index finger lightly sliding over Vivian's chin, a dangerous touch that made Vivian's heart race. She knew that in front of Rein, any failure was intolerable.
Vivian forced herself to remain calm, but her voice still carried a tremble. "He... he is more powerful than we imagined, he is not an ordinary survivor... he has abilities, and his dog is not ordinary either," she tried to explain, but her words were filled with helplessness. In front of someone like Rein, any explanation seemed feeble and powerless.
Mud felt the pressure that Vivian was under, and suddenly spoke with a tremble, trying to explain the chaos at The Midtown Tower. "Boss... we... we encountered too many Wild Spider Beasts at The Midtown Tower... we... we were suddenly surrounded, the situation was too chaotic... Thorn also died... we..." Before he could finish, Rein acted faster than Mud's words, taking a step forward and grabbing Mud by the neck, abruptly cutting off his explanation.
Rein's arm tensed, his fingers gripping Mud's throat like a vice, causing Mud's face to quickly turn red with fear and confusion. He weakly struggled, trying to free himself from Rein's control, but Rein's strength far exceeded his efforts, making Mud's struggles seem futile.
The surrounding air congealed with Rein's anger, creating a heavy and oppressive atmosphere. Vivian and the other members dared not speak, only able to silently watch the scene, fully aware of Rein's cruelty and ruthlessness, knowing that any failure could lead to deadly consequences.
"Are you saying Thorn died?" Rein's voice was low and threatening, "You let a human and a few dogs escape, and let Thorn die there?" His words conveyed disbelief and fury, his eyes burning with anger, making it impossible to meet his gaze.
Mud struggled to respond, but his throat was tightly gripped, only able to emit a faint moaning sound. In this moment, Mud deeply experienced the fear of life and death, and also understood that within The Curse of the Wild, any failure was not tolerated.
