The thugs continued to rudely rummage through Leo's box, casually discarding some ordinary clothes until they found the document of his forced retirement. They curiously gathered around, reading the contents of the document.
"Oh, look here!" one of the thugs read aloud, "This guy actually dared to hit his boss, how audacious!" His voice was filled with malicious mockery.
Another thug next to him also came over, looking at the documents and laughing, "Haha, look at this, they said this guy is not capable in combat and not suitable for the army!" His words caused a burst of laughter.
The thugs looked at each other with contempt and mockery in their eyes. They were completely indifferent to Leo's plight, instead treating it as a joke to discuss.
In the midst of the mocking laughter of the group, Leo felt as though the laughter around his ears was like knives stabbing into his heart, making him feel suffocated. He felt an unprecedented sense of humiliation and powerlessness, having once given everything for the Interstellar Federation, only to end up in such a state. His heart was filled with pain and anger, but he couldn't make a sound, only able to helplessly watch these thugs mocking his past.
At this moment, the thugs discovered a bag filled with banknotes, which contained Leo's retirement pension. Their eyes gleamed with greed as they joyfully counted each banknote.
"It looks like I'm really lucky today!" a thug sneered, playing with the hard-earned money with dirty hands.
Leo watched as this group of people shamelessly plundered everything he had, and his inner anger was almost bursting out of his chest. His body was almost numb from the beating, but when he saw these thugs squandering his money so wantonly, he emotionally crawled towards them, reaching out to try to take back what was rightfully his.
"That's mine... it's what I earned on the battlefield..." Leo's voice was low and hoarse, filled with despair and unwillingness.
One of the thugs kicked Leo's hand fiercely, mocking him coldly, "Battlefield? You're just a kicked-out waste!"
Leo struggled on the ground as the thugs began to punch and kick him, each blow filled with cruelty and mockery. One of the thugs even picked up a rusty iron pipe from the ground and mercilessly struck Leo's body with it. Leo was almost unable to breathe, each breath filled with intense pain.
"Hey, look at this, this waste is still a military officer!" one thug laughed, tossing Leo's military uniform aside.
Leo curled up in pain, watching as these people flagrantly violated his dignity and accomplishments. He felt an unprecedented sense of shame and despair, as all his efforts and sacrifices seemed meaningless in this moment. His vision blurred, consumed by boundless pain and anger.
The thugs found a small black platter at the bottom of the cardboard box. At first, they thought it was useless junk, until one of them exclaimed in surprise, "Hey! This is a military-grade portable projector! We can sell it for a good price!"
The gangsters surrounding Leo became excited when they heard this, and began to discuss how to sell their discovery to each other.
When Leo heard them mention the last memento Mike had left for him, he felt a strong anger burning in his chest. He used all his remaining strength to stand up, trembling as he shouted, "Don't... don't you dare touch that thing, you scum! You're not allowed to touch it!"
The thugs heard Leo's roar, turned around, and showed a mocking and contemptuous expression. One of them mercilessly spat at Leo and sneered, "Oh? Is this thing important to you? Then we must take it away even more! Judging by your reaction, it must be something valuable."
Another thug took the projector with a smirk and began to play with it, completely disregarding Leo's feelings. They mercilessly taunted Leo, showing no concern for his current predicament.
Leo clenched his fist, despite his exhausted body, and staggered towards the thug holding the projector, throwing a punch. However, the thugs easily dodged his attack, their faces showing mocking and sneering smiles.
"Oh! Is Second Lieutenant getting serious? Come on, Second Lieutenant!" one of the thugs taunted, continuously provoking while holding the projector that was crucial to Leo, mockingly swaying his body to imitate Leo's movements.
"I am those alien stink bugs!" they laughed, clearly enjoying the sensation of teasing Leo.
Leo was panting heavily, his eyes filled with anger and frustration. Every attempt to retrieve the projector ended in failure. His body was reaching its limit, and faced with the taunting and mockery of these thugs, Leo's heart was filled with anger and despair.
The thugs found pleasure in Leo's powerless resistance, continuing their mockery and insults. Leo felt his dignity being trampled, his former bravery and honor seemingly worthless in this moment. His fists trembled, but he was powerless to mount any effective counterattack. In this dark alley, he felt an unprecedented sense of loneliness and helplessness.
Just as Leo gathered his last bit of strength, preparing to launch another attack on the thug holding the projector, an unexpected turn of events occurred. A thug behind him cunningly extended his foot and viciously tripped Leo. Losing his balance, his body crashed heavily onto the cold, hard ground, emitting a dull thud.
In an instant, the thugs around took the opportunity to mercilessly attack the fallen Leo. Their fists and kicks rained down on him, accompanied by their mocking and contemptuous words. Leo tried to protect his head and vital areas with his arms, but the thugs' violent assault still caused him intense pain.
The thugs' attack was unrestrained, as if they had completely forgotten that Leo was a living person, treating him only as an outlet for their brutal nature. Leo's body was dragged around by the punches and kicks, his clothes torn, and fresh blood seeped from the scrapes on his body, staining the ground.
In the midst of this chaos and pain, Leo felt an unprecedented sense of powerlessness and despair. His thoughts gradually became blurred, and the pain and humiliation caused his consciousness to sink into darkness and silence.
