The lingering glow of the sunset sprinkled onto the teaching building of the university, casting a golden light on Jack's figure. He had just walked out of a classroom where an unusual general education course had just ended - Wilderness Survival. This course not only focused on theoretical learning, but also emphasized practical skills and scenario simulations, allowing students to learn and apply their knowledge in real environments.
Today's lesson was particularly practical, discussing how to maximize the use of natural resources to sustain life in various harsh environments. The professor began by teaching basic survival skills, such as how to find safe drinking water in different environments like forests, deserts, or snowy areas. Then, he demonstrated several common edible wild plants and the poisonous ones to avoid, engaging the students in a small plant identification exercise.
Jack is particularly interested in this knowledge. He not only excels in theoretical learning, but also demonstrates outstanding talent in practical operations. He is able to quickly grasp how to build a simple shelter using stones and tree branches, and even rapidly created a fire pit that can be ignited in a simulated environment. During the wilderness first aid segment, he showed remarkable calmness and adaptability, and was well-versed in handling simulated trauma and first aid methods for natural disasters.
At the end of the course, Jack was preparing to leave the classroom, but the professor stopped him. There was a hint of recognition and curiosity in the professor's eyes.

He took out his phone, intending to choose a song to relax his tense nerves. Just as he put on his Bluetooth earphones and was about to open the music app, a sudden news alert interrupted him. The phone screen displayed a disturbing headline: "World Summit Negotiations Collapse, Southeast Asia Situation Tense and Escalating."
Jack's brow furrowed. The news detailed the power struggle among major world powers in the Southeast Asia region, with the regional conflict gradually evolving into a geopolitical chessboard. Representatives at the negotiation table had differing opinions on how to resolve the crisis. Clearly, this summit did not achieve any effective solutions. Jack knew well that this deadlock meant global instability, possibly leading to even larger-scale conflicts.

The atmosphere at the negotiation table grew increasingly tense, with representatives from various countries arguing incessantly, unwilling to make any concessions. Jack felt an inexplicable sense of oppression. Jack thought to himself that those pundits on political talk shows on TV are just fear-mongering for ratings, and their remarks seem particularly out of touch in this peaceful and stable era.
To him, what seems truly laughable is those who earnestly believe that the world will descend into chaos and a major war. After all, globalization has tightly linked the destinies of all countries, and any large-scale war would have disastrous consequences for all nations. In this interconnected world, reason and cooperation are the mainstream, and war and conflict are merely historical legacies, unlikely to become a reality in modern society.
Jack let go of his worries and continued walking in the campus corridor, filled with anticipation and hope for the future. He believed that no matter how the world changes, peace and progress will always be the main theme of human social development.
