As the morning light broke, Fang Lin Kong felt a heavy discomfort in his chest, a buzzing in his head as if he had just been violently struck seventy or eighty times. It felt as though blood might burst from his seven orifices and limbs. After a while, the inexplicable hallucinations began to subside.
He patted his head, clearing out some strange thoughts. However, he still felt uneasy. For the past couple of days, Fang Lin Kong had been in a foul mood, even losing interest in his favorite pastime of debating in class. He had become much more subdued during lessons, leading the teachers to mistakenly believe he had turned over a new leaf and was now diligently studying.
Since the incident at the swimming pool, Electric Ghost, Fire Quirk, and Kazama seemed to have suddenly lost their sense of purpose. Their days were filled with aimless wandering, and it felt as if they had forgotten about Fang Lin Kong altogether. The power he gained from the Gouli was growing stronger each day, manifesting in frequent hallucinations and bouts of inexplicable surges of energy. Yet no matter how much he asked, Electric Ghost and the others remained tight-lipped, refusing to share any information.
"Fang Lin Kong, come out for a moment! I need to talk to you!"
The bell rang for class dismissal, jolting Fang Lin Kong from his daze. It was Ding Qingya calling for him. Over the past few days, his relationship with her had inexplicably progressed at lightning speed. To outsiders, they appeared to be an ambiguous couple—arriving at school together every morning and leaving together every afternoon. Even during breaks, they often exchanged glances across the classroom or on the field, drawing envy from their peers.
"Why do you always look like that? Haven't been resting well? Come study at my place tonight! I'll treat you to something delicious," Ding Qingya suggested. Fang Lin Kong eagerly accepted her invitation. Given his personality, he would never pursue someone as outstanding and proud as Ding Qingya; it seemed too much effort for little reward.
He believed that catering to girls was not worth it, even if they were beautiful.
However, since their relationship had already taken an unexpected turn for the better, it would be foolish to act coldly and distance himself now. Girls like Ding Qingya were hard to win over, but since he was already close enough, Fang Lin Kong decided to embrace it. He ignored the teasing from others and let none of the gossip affect their bond.
"I'm fine! Oh! Remember to lend me your notes; I didn't copy them in the last class."
"Honestly! Make sure you pay attention in class next time."
Fang Lin Kong usually scoffed at such trivial conversations. He often led discussions into absurd tangents with just a few words when chatting with others. Yet now, he found himself enjoying this light banter immensely. Before he knew it, ten minutes of break time had flown by.
Reluctantly parting ways, they both headed back to their respective classes. Fang Lin Kong noticed Li Bing waving at him from around the corner.
Ever since Li Bing had saved him, Fang Lin Kong felt a sense of closeness towards her. So when she called out to him, he hurried over without worrying about being late for class.
Seeing Fang Lin Kong approach, Li Bing smiled slightly and said softly, "I came to find you because I wanted to remind you about something. A few skilled individuals have arrived in this city; they're affiliated with that White Whale Born I encountered last time. Individually, they're no match for me, but together... well, let's just say you'll need to fend for yourself. I can't help you anymore."
“White Whale Born? Are you with that guy?” Fang Lin Kong had never seen White Whale Born, and Li Bing had only briefly mentioned the two times he had encountered White Whale Born. He warned Fang Lin Kong to be careful. Now, with Li Bing coming to warn him so seriously, Fang Lin Kong felt overwhelmed.
“What should I do then? I might as well return this damn book to them; it’s useless to me. Nothing is more important than my own life.”
Seeing Fang Lin Kong's troubled expression, Li Bing chuckled and said, “I met a very strange person who can solve all your problems. I’ll take you to meet him later.”
Fang Lin Kong looked so distressed that his face seemed to be gathering into a frown. “I’m afraid I won’t have time tonight. Didn’t you just hear Ding Qingya invite me to her house? I have things to do.”
Li Bing couldn’t help but laugh and turned to leave.
“I didn’t eavesdrop on your conversation, but you won’t be busy all night, right? I doubt she’ll keep you overnight. Remember to find me; after all, you need to stay alive first before you can chase after girls.”
White Whale Born sat in the airport waiting area, looking impatient while occasionally flashing a smug grin. “This battle will be very interesting! I can’t wait! Isn’t that right, Little White Fish?” The one he was addressing was a peculiar little fish in the aquarium of the waiting area. As White Whale Born spoke, the little creature, which looked like a mini whale, seemed extremely agitated and jumped around vigorously.
“Haha! You’re really amusing, Little White Fish.” Ignoring the little fish’s protests, White Whale Born straightened his attire in front of the aquarium glass. Today, he wore a white suit that complemented his tall and handsome appearance, making him stand out in the airport and attracting the attention of many women.
Suddenly hearing the sound of an airplane landing, White Whale Born waved goodbye to Little White Fish in the aquarium and strode toward the arrival entrance.
After the plane landed, numerous passengers streamed out. Three men were particularly eye-catching—not only because they were foreign with blue eyes and blonde hair but also due to their oddly large luggage. Each bag was nearly two meters long and appeared extremely heavy.
The three men were all exceptionally strong, carrying their oversized packages as if they weighed nothing. Upon seeing White Whale Born waiting at the airport, they looked very pleased, waving enthusiastically. Once they exited the security area, they embraced each other warmly and began chatting amiably in the airport lobby.
Meanwhile, from afar in the aquarium, Little White Fish seemed very anxious, constantly thrashing about inside. The aquarium set up for beautifying the environment was quite large—five meters long and 1.7 meters high—making it resemble a crystal wall. The peculiar Little White Fish was so agitated that it quickly drew a crowd of curious travelers.
“Oh! This little fish isn’t a real whale, is it? So small! But look! It can spray water!” The onlookers were astonished by what they saw. Inside the aquarium, Little White Fish appeared genuinely emotional; every time it surfaced, it shot a stream of water high from its head.
“Don’t let me catch you! How dare you force me back into my original form and put me here for everyone to gawk at! I will never forgive you for this! How dare you impersonate me? Oh dear! My brothers!”
“I want to transform! Transform! Break free…”
With the self-talk of Little White Fish, a dazzling brilliance erupted from the Aquarium. The crowd watching was momentarily stunned by the sudden change before them. The water flow inside the Aquarium surged dramatically, increasing by dozens or even hundreds of times. With a loud splash, an immense wave burst forth from the large glass tank. In the blink of an eye, the entire airport waiting hall was engulfed by the roaring torrent.
"That guy, don’t pretend to be me and plot against my brothers!" The Little White Fish's body swelled rapidly, soon transforming into an adult man. Surprisingly, he looked exactly like White Whale Born, except he was completely naked and dripping with water, appearing somewhat disheveled.
Once he regained his human form, this White Whale Born immediately shouted, "Jamie! That’s not me, be careful not to be ambushed..."
The three Foreign Men who had just disembarked from the plane witnessed the chaos clearly. When they turned back with puzzled expressions, they were met with a flurry of furious fists raining down upon them. Caught off guard and ambushed, the three Foreign Men didn’t even have time to retrieve their belongings before being struck down and knocked unconscious.
The imposter White Whale Born maintained a brilliant smile throughout. By the time White Whale Born rushed over, the battle had already concluded. Sensing trouble, White Whale Born intended to escape through the water, but this time he miscalculated. Just as a wall of water began to rise around him, a giant foot appeared in his vision, growing larger until it slammed down on his handsome face, pinning him to the ground.
Though he grimaced in pain from being stepped on, White Whale Born still struggled and threatened, "How many times have I told you not to step on my face with your shoe? Next time I won’t let you off so easily."
"You shouldn’t have let me go last time; unfortunately, you’re just too weak." The victor mocked the defeated one with evident superiority. No matter how much White Whale Born struggled, he couldn’t remove that filthy foot from his face because it wasn’t just that giant foot weighing him down; a powerful and domineering Spiritual Energy Field also firmly restrained his limbs and dantian, leaving him unable to resist.
"Alright, stop struggling. Come with your brothers and me! I need your cooperation to resolve this matter."
White Whale Born shouted angrily, "What if I refuse to cooperate? What will you do then?"
Imposter White Whale smiled slightly and crouched down to say gently, "Little White Fish, then you can prepare to stay in the Aquarium with your brothers for a hundred years. I don’t kill or intimidate people. I’ll even play music for you every day!"
"You... why don’t you go die! I don’t want to listen to music..."
"Didn’t they say whales love music?"
"Nonsense! That was just human scientists’ ignorance. I hate noisy environments..."
The chaos at the airport continued until half an hour later when riot police arrived and gradually restored order. Before that, both parties involved in the disturbance had long since vanished without a trace. White Whale Born and his three companions had been humiliatingly captured.
"What a powerful guy! Even our Demon Hunter Leader would likely struggle to deal with four experts at the level of White Whale Born simultaneously. Why is there no information about this person in my data? There shouldn’t be such a powerful presence in this city!"
Oren Vikin, clad in a priest's black robe, stood tall. He had just entered his thirties, the age when a man is most mature and charming. After experiencing that brief battle, he couldn't help but take a deep breath. As a highly ranked Demon Hunter and a core member of the Demon Hunting Team, it was the first time Oren felt a loss of confidence in his own abilities.
Moreover, Oren sensed that his opponent was not unaware of him; they simply had no interest in acknowledging him. In other words, he was not regarded as a worthy adversary.
This realization left Oren feeling disheartened.
Although he had arrived on the same flight as the three associates of the White Whale Born, Oren had no intention of confronting the officials of the International Demon Alliance directly. As he stepped out of the airport, someone was already waiting for him.
"Mr. Oren, welcome to this city. Although the air quality in northern cities is poor, the sunshine is quite refreshing," unexpectedly greeted him Ding Chifeng, the leader of the Chifeng Army, who had once besieged Fang Lin Kong and his companions.
"Indeed, you are well-informed about my investigation into the transformation of beastmen. I hope Mr. Ding can cooperate with me and avoid any unpleasantness," Oren replied. As a Demon Hunter from the Demon Hunting Team, he had a duty to maintain order against abnormal phenomena and monster crimes worldwide, ensuring that this dark balance did not disrupt human life. His visit to China was also on official orders.
Ding Chifeng snapped his fingers, and a Hongqi sedan quietly approached. He did not respond to Oren's inquiry but simply introduced, "The two gentlemen in the car are my brothers Zhang Xiaofeng and Xiong Yisheng. I believe you already have their information, so I won't elaborate further. Please, Mr. Oren; I have already booked your hotel."
Seated in the car were none other than Tiger King and Bear King. Out of dissatisfaction with Oren's presence, Tiger King snorted coldly and said, "Oren Vikin, coming here alone shows some courage. We won’t make things difficult for you; our Chifeng Army is indeed involved in transforming beastmen. When you report back, we look forward to seeing the Demon Hunting Team come in full force! Hahaha!"
Tiger King lacked the composure of his leader Ding Chifeng and couldn't help but mock Oren as soon as he got into the car.
Everyone knew that investigating Cloud Cloud was merely an excuse for the Western Demon Hunter Alliance. Not to mention whether the Demon Hunting Team, affiliated with Western religious alliances, had the right to investigate matters in China; even if there were criminal activities by monsters within China, Western paranormal organizations had no authority to enforce laws here.
Neither the Demon Hunting Team with its influence across Europe nor the Exorcist Guild from America could extend their reach into China.
However, international cooperation had become more frequent lately. The Demon Hunting Team claimed they were investigating why technology for transforming beastmen had flowed into China and hoped relevant parties would cooperate.
As a local organization, the Chifeng Army dared not neglect their duties towards the International Demon Alliance and would not openly oppose powerful foreign forces like the Demon Hunting Team. Yet minor frictions were unavoidable.
"The Chifeng Army has expanded its influence by purchasing illegal technology to enhance its members. If there is solid evidence, I doubt your domestic superhumans will let you off easily," Oren coldly remarked, feeling quite irritated inside.
He was merely using this excuse; his true purpose was related to the already controversial Gouli Heaven's Tome. However, due to formal procedures, the Demon Hunting Team had delayed sending personnel until now.
"There’s news that Kunlun has sent disciples, and they entered this city yesterday." Ding Chifeng showed no concern for Oren Vikin's threats. Such tactics would only lead to unpleasantness and ultimately come to nothing, and Ding Chifeng was not afraid of that.
Oren Vikin's complaints to the authorities would likely yield no results. Unlike the tightly organized supernatural beings in Europe and America, there was no single authoritative institution in their country. Several major sects held their own power, and amidst their mutual squabbling, any punishment would merely be a formality.
Ding Chifeng's calm demeanor and the shocking news he had just shared made Oren Vikin wary. He asked in a low voice, "Who is it?"
"Eastern Thunder!"
"Oh! Ten Directions of Hell, Eastern Thunder!"
A chill ran through Oren Vikin at the mention of the name, though his tone remained unchanged. However, Ding Chifeng knew he had successfully shifted Oren's focus. Ten Directions of Hell was a nickname for Eastern Thunder, subtly praising his formidable skills, comparable to the King of Hell. Even on an international level, this young master from the Chinese Taoist Sect was well-known.
In the future, the Chifeng Army would need to develop. Entering the international arena meant encountering various monsters and supernatural organizations; establishing good relations now would be beneficial. Ding Chifeng was cautious in dealing with Oren Vikin; he didn't want to ingratiate himself but also didn’t wish to offend. He discreetly kicked Zhang Xiaofeng under the table, reminding his brother to keep his mouth in check. It wasn’t worth making enemies over trivial disputes.
"The Gouli Heaven's Tome has stirred quite a few people!" Ding Chifeng thought to himself, recalling how he had been thwarted under Li Bing last time. He immediately ordered his subordinates not to interfere with this matter any further. However, regardless of which faction entered, they should provide assistance as much as possible. Being astute, Ding Chifeng quickly realized that the Chifeng Army lacked the capacity to participate in such high-level actions. If things went awry, their limited resources could easily be wiped out, leading to catastrophic losses.
The four of them sat in silence in the car as they quietly left the airport, each lost in their own thoughts.
