Newton was certainly not found by the others. Returning to the jungle, he utilized his abilities to create a temporary space underground to serve as a laboratory. Although the ore he obtained from the blacksmith was limited, it was sufficient for enchanting his firearms. He infused his large gun with both fire and ice effects, which could explode upon collision. Newton decided to name this creation "Crossfire." 0

However, this story is about an Alchemist, not an ammunition expert. Still, enchanting firearms could be considered a product of Alchemy. 0

Through the enchantments, Newton significantly reduced the recoil of his weapon, ensuring that he wouldn't be limited to firing just one shot due to his own physical strength. At this point, he finally felt he had some means of self-defense. 0

Bullets could be crafted at any time, but after enchanting them, they wore down more quickly in the chamber. If a standard handgun had an effective range of about fifty meters, then Newton's handgun would only have an effective range of twenty to thirty meters at best. 0

"Thinking about it, I still need to train my body." 0

Even though Newton now had a weapon, if he couldn't react in time and an enemy got too close, he would be left vulnerable. Fortunately, having spent considerable time outside had kept him in decent shape; at least he didn't have to worry about being too weak. The combat techniques he developed in his previous life also provided him with some assistance. 0

Once he was prepared again, it was time to hit the road once more. However, this time Newton sensed something was off in the town. Everyone seemed to be afraid of something, and there were hints of curiosity and mockery in their glances toward him. 0

"Knock knock knock." 0

Newton knocked on the door of a place that resembled a tavern. To his surprise, although it was daytime, there wasn't a single person inside. The door was opened by a girl who appeared slightly hesitant. 0

"Excuse me, are you the Mage who accepted the mission?" 0

Her question caused noticeable changes in the expressions around them; however, most were still filled with suspicion since Newton's age was quite apparent. 0

"No, I'm just a wandering merchant. If it's convenient, could I get something to eat?" 0

Newton continued speaking as if trying to appease the girl. 0

"I do know a bit of magic; if needed, I can help." 0

The girl's eyes clearly showed disappointment but she quickly pulled Newton inside. 0

"Hurry up and come in; it's dangerous outside." 0

However, the girl tugged at Newton, but she couldn't move him. After all, the backpack behind Newton was really large, and she was just a girl; how could she have that much strength? 0

Newton looked at the girl, who appeared quite embarrassed and could only open the door to let him in. 0

"Love, who is this? Is Mr. Mage taking over our mission now?" 0

The girl referred to as Love was the one who had led Newton inside. 0

"No, he's just a child traveling alone who wants to eat something here." 0

Love pointed at Newton. He greeted everyone, but instead of receiving any warm welcome, he was met with countless disdainful glances. 0

"Love, I know you're kind-hearted, but our town is in such danger right now. We don't even know if we will see the sun tomorrow. Keeping this child here is putting him in harm's way." 0

An elderly man sighed as he spoke. 0

"Kid, the old man isn't trying to chase you away. It's just that we've already been targeted by bandits. If you don't leave, you'll be in their sights too. Those two at the door are the bandits' lackeys." 0

"But he's just a child, and he's already come inside. If he leaves like this, it will be even more dangerous," Love argued back. 0

"Sigh, kid, once you finish eating, you should leave through the back. Don't take your bag; without it as a target, it'll be easier for you to escape," the old man advised Newton with a heavy heart. 0

"Old man, then why don't you all run?" Newton asked as he ate the simple meal Love had brought him. It was ordinary food, but for someone who had even gnawed on watermelon rinds like Newton, anything that could fill his stomach was good enough. 0

"Ah, I've lived here for decades; there's no thought of running away now." 0

The old man waved his hand, a hint of melancholy on his face. 0

Seeing this, Newton fell silent and began to eat his meal. 0

Newton ate quickly, and after finishing, he looked at Ai. 0

"How much is this meal?" 0

"Forget it, I'll go prepare some dry rations for you. You should leave quickly." 0

Ai walked inside. 0

"This is three hundred j." 0

Newton placed the money on the table, his eyes fixed on the old man. 0

"Child, even if you give me the money, it will just be taken by someone else. Take it and run." 0

The old man was somewhat angry; why wouldn't this child listen? 0

"No." 0

Newton picked up one hundred j from the table again. 0

"Equal exchange; that is my principle." 0

With that, Newton shouldered his bag and walked outside. 0

"Child, go out through the back door!" 0

But Newton seemed to ignore the old man's words and pushed the door open to leave. 0

"Child, you know this place can only be entered, not exited, right?" 0

Newton had initially thought that the guards were still at the entrance, but who would have expected that they were actually robbers? 0

He pulled a handgun from his pocket, aiming it at the two lackeys. 0

"Bang!" 0

With the sound of a gunshot, two blood holes appeared in their heads. 0

"Only two people to guard this place? Is this a joke?" 0

Newton had killed before in his lifetime. In his quest to learn about the occult, he had sought out various ruins and inevitably encountered mercenaries and tomb raiders. The first time he faced such danger, he barely escaped with his life. After that, he became quite ruthless; when confronted outside, it was truly a matter of either you die or I die. 0

He took out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag. He felt a twinge of regret—not because of the killing, but because who knew when the rest of them would arrive? Would he really have to wait? What if they didn't come today but tomorrow? Or worse, what if he had to wait a lifetime? Newton suddenly felt like he might go insane. 0

"Whoosh!" 0

It was clear that in a town like this, it was impossible for just two people to guard the entrance. From the distant woods, a crossbow bolt shot out. Newton quickly placed his backpack in front of him. He had intended to use it as a shield; although its exterior was fabric, it was lined with chainmail for lightweight yet high defense—especially against arrows. Of course, it also served to protect the contents inside from damage due to impact or collision. However, considering the weight issue, he had only constructed one side with chainmail; otherwise, he wouldn't be able to carry it. 0

"Thud!" 0

As expected, the crossbow bolt was blocked by the iron layer in his bag. 0

"Alchemy!" 0

Newton placed his hands on the ground, and a Vulcan appeared before him, accompanied by a chain of bullets and an RPG that materialized on the ground. 0

“Whoosh!” 0

A projectile exploded in the air like fireworks. Seeing this, Newton felt a sense of calm wash over him. He crouched down and began assembling weapons—specifically, all firearms. 0

“Zai, what are you doing?” 0

Ai rushed over, holding a package, her face filled with anxiety. 0

“You—okay, I know you want to help us, but those are a bunch of thieves! You’re no match for them. Even if you can handle one or two…” 0

“Whoosh!” 0

Before Ai could finish her sentence, the sound of galloping hooves echoed as a group of riders approached Newton. 0

“Zai, who are you?” 0

Scarface glared at Newton, his face twisted in anger as he looked at his two fallen subordinates on the ground. 0

“Did you kill my men?” 0

Newton couldn’t be bothered to respond. He aimed the Vulcan directly at Scarface while Ai tightly grasped his sleeve. 0

“Zai, I’m asking—” 0

Before Scarface could finish, Newton pulled the trigger. 0

The Vulcan, or Metal Storm, fired thousands of rounds per minute, and the barrel quickly heated up. Newton ceased firing, frowned, and tossed the Vulcan aside; it exploded mid-air. He pulled Ai behind the backpack to shield them from the flying debris. Then he retrieved the RPG from the ground and peeked out from behind the backpack, firing it at the wailing bandits. 0

"Boom!" 0

Watching the Bandits who were now more exhaled than inhaled, Newton rubbed his wrist and shoulder. After all, the Fire God had a frame that could slightly reduce the recoil, but that RPG had truly knocked Newton flat on the ground. Meanwhile, Ai was stunned, staring blankly at Newton. 0

Newton took the package filled with rations from the other party's hands. He glanced inside to see it stuffed with herbs and other materials. Looking at the package in Ai's hands, he sighed helplessly and strapped it to his chest. As he looked at the large bundle on his back, he suddenly thought that this could be considered armor. 0

"Equipped package armor, Defense +." 0

Newton added a notification sound in his mind and couldn't help but chuckle. Then he turned to Ai and said, "Thank you." 0

He intended to leave. 0

"Ah!" 0

At that moment, Ai finally came to her senses. 0

"Wait, you..." 0

Newton didn't say much more; he simply waved his hand and disappeared into the forest. 0
