In Leo's eyes, there was a hint of longing and worry, and then he asked another question that was equally important to him: "What about the mercenary group? Where is everyone from Valkyrie?" His voice was filled with longing and concern for his companions, who were as important to him as family now that he had nothing.
Upon hearing this question, Douglas's face showed a hint of helplessness but also a warm smile, as if he had expected Leo's concern. He gently shook his head and with a hint of amusement in his tone, said, "I knew you would ask. Don't worry... they haven't abandoned you." This statement was like a warm breeze, dispelling a hint of chill from Leo's heart.
Douglas then revealed a detail that touched Leo: "It's because Emily kept urging me about your condition every few days that I came here to call for you these past few days." This statement not only brought a sense of comfort to Leo, but also made him feel the strong friendship and deep affection of the Valkyrie mercenary group. Even during his unconscious days, his comrades still cared for him, worrying about his safety. This emotion filled his heart with gratitude.
Knowing that he was so cared for and missed, Leo's mood couldn't help but improve. Although his physical recovery still needed time, the love and support from his comrades undoubtedly gave him more courage and strength, making him believe that as long as they were united, there was no difficulty they couldn't overcome.
Douglas seemed to have a telepathic connection with Leo. He picked up the nearby tablet and operated it skillfully. Before long, Emily's face appeared on the screen. Her eyes sparkled with surprise when she saw Leo sitting up in bed, and her expression instantly filled with joy and excitement. She happily shouted on the other end of the screen, even jumping uncontrollably. The joy seemed to transmit through the screen to Leo, filling the entire room with a warm atmosphere.
Seeing this, Leo couldn't help but show a shy smile on his face. He waved to the screen, feeling grateful for Emily's direct and pure joy. Emily noticed Leo's gesture and immediately asked with concern, "Leo, are you okay now? You must be feeling much better, right?" Her voice was full of care and urgency, but then she realized that speaking might still be a struggle for Leo, so she quickly added, "Oh, don't answer that. We'll come to see you later."
The screen slightly shakes with Emily's movements as she jumps up from her bed and turns towards Sarah in the upper bunk, calling out eagerly and excitedly, "Hey! Hey! Sarah, look!" Then, the screen seems to shake violently as Emily vigorously shakes the entire bed, filling the whole scene with energy and urgency.
On the other end of the screen, Sarah is pulled back from her own world by the sudden shaking and commotion. She impatiently removes one side of her headphones, intending to scold Emily for the unreasonable disturbance. However, when her gaze falls on the screen and she sees Leo shyly waving at them, all her displeasure instantly dissipates, and a smile involuntarily spreads across her face.
Emily's voice was filled with anticipation and concern. She happily said to the screen, "We'll come see you in a bit, wait for us!" Her words were like a warm stream, giving Leo great comfort and strength, letting him feel the concern of his comrades from afar. As soon as she finished speaking, Emily hurriedly ended the call, and the screen abruptly went blank, leaving Leo with a promise of a hopeful reunion.
Douglas ended the call and then put away the tablet. He then walked to Leo's bedside and skillfully operated the bed controller, slowly raising the bed to a 45-degree angle, allowing Leo to sit up halfway. This movement widened Leo's field of vision and made him feel more relaxed and comfortable. In this position, he could breathe better and converse more comfortably, which was a great help to his recovery.
After ensuring the call was over, Douglas did not leave immediately. Instead, he carefully checked Leo's wounds again. He gently unwrapped the bandages to inspect the healing progress of the wounds. At the same time, his eyes occasionally glanced at the IV drip to confirm the proper delivery of medication and the appropriate flow rate. Once he was certain that everything was fine, he seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, satisfied with his work.
Afterward, Douglas gently patted Leo's shoulder and said in a warm, almost fatherly tone, "Hey... rest well, young man. Your body is still young, so the recovery should be faster. Take it easy!" This statement was not only an encouragement but also expressed Douglas's hopeful confidence in Leo's future recovery. Douglas's care and support filled Leo with a warm feeling, providing some comfort to his spirit despite the lingering physical pain.
Douglas left the consultation room without lingering, slowly walking out and leaving Leo alone in the spacious yet somewhat empty room. The silence in the room allowed Leo's thoughts to drift, thinking about the upcoming recovery process, his comrades by his side, and his future path. In this lonely moment, Leo felt unprecedented challenges and uncertainty, but at the same time, Douglas's words gave him courage and hope, making him believe that with effort, everything would improve.
Alone in the consulting room, Leo's gaze alternated between the ceiling and the quietly playing television in the corner. The TV screen displayed various programs, from news reports to entertainment shows. Although these programs seemed somewhat boring to him as he lay in bed, they at least provided a way for him to pass the time during his recovery. The sound of the TV became the only noise in the consulting room, breaking the surrounding silence and temporarily allowing Leo to escape from his own pain and uncertain future.
