Captain Shao closed his eyes, pondering for a moment before speaking. "Twenty years ago, I encountered someone like this. I never expected to meet another one after two decades. They lead us step by step into their trap; perhaps from the very beginning, they were targeting Liu Yinyan. Kidnapping Liu Fei'er was merely a means to ensnare Liu Yinyan." 0

"Liu Yinyan must have discussed something with them," Captain Shao stated firmly. 0

It was possible that Liu Yinyan had revealed to the kidnappers the details of the murder he had planned thirty-five years ago. 0

And currently, I was the only one who knew about it. 0

Thinking it over, the difficulty of kidnapping Liu Yinyan was immense; his butler was almost always by his side. In contrast, Liu Fei'er would be much easier to abduct. If the kidnappers were aware of this, would they consider making it public? 0

"Investigate! We need to look into Lin Da!" I told everyone. "The only way we can obtain clues is through Lin Da, and this is likely the main reason they want to bring him in. Lin Da's daughter is in the hands of the kidnappers, and Lin Da's love for her is something that people at the Police Station can only imagine." 0

Captain Shao continued, "So Lin Da will definitely not reveal this location. We need to extract information from him step by step; this is the game the kidnappers want us to play!" 0

I nodded seriously and said, "So let's hurry and interrogate Lin Da; we don't have much time!" 0

"Let's go," Captain Shao waved his hand. 0

I stood in front of Captain Shao and calmly said, "From a psychological perspective, when a kidnapper faces an individual, they are more likely to reveal their thoughts. However, if there are too many people present, an individual will instinctively enter a self-protective state. While humans are social animals, they are also uniquely capable of self-preservation." 0

"What do you mean?" Captain Shao looked at me. 0

I glanced at everyone and said, "If possible, let me interrogate him alone." 0

Captain Shao scrutinized me and replied, "Alright, then it's up to you. But you must understand that every hour that passes, Liu Yinyan will lose a finger. You need to act quickly; otherwise, they may very well die. If Liu Yinyan dies, it would be a tremendous blow to us—this is something you should know." 0

I nodded without saying anything further and quickly walked toward the interrogation room. 0

Through the one-way glass, I could see that Lin Da was no longer in a frenzy, but he kept looking around, constantly licking his lips, appearing somewhat restless. I smiled; I knew this was a sign of his craving for cigarettes. 0

As I pushed the door open and stepped inside, Lin Da noticed me and flashed a grin that revealed his yellowing teeth. 0

"Officer, why are you the only one here?" Lin Da deliberately glanced around. "Where are the others? Have you found new leads?" 0

I remained silent and walked over to the surveillance camera, turning it off. 0

Lin Da watched my actions without speaking, seemingly pondering something. I knew that this gesture provided him with a sense of security. 0

I sat back down on the chair, took out a cigarette pack from my pocket, and lit one. The faint smell of smoke began to fill the small interrogation room as Lin Da leaned forward, as if trying to inhale every bit of smoke into his nostrils. 0

But how could such a light scent satisfy Lin Da? 0

I slowly spoke up, "I hear you have quite an understanding of tobacco. Davidoff's English blend is hard to come by on the market; how did you get in touch with your boss?" 0

Lin Da snorted disdainfully. "Ever since I tried that scoundrel's tobacco four years ago, I just couldn't quit. You know, it's quite pathetic—when I was in prison, I thought about my daughter a hundred times, but I thought about that tobacco a hundred and one times. That's how this world works; if you want something badly enough, you'll find a way." 0

I nodded and flicked the ash off my cigarette. "Don't let my age fool you; I learned to smoke when I was just a teenager. Back then, I was so afraid of being caught by my dad that I'd hide in the bathroom to smoke. It wasn't until I turned eighteen that I dared to smoke openly in front of him." 0

"Do you know what habit I've picked up?" I continued while smoking. "Now, if I don't smoke while taking a dump, I can't go at all. But thankfully, I've managed not to develop a habit of needing to smoke every time I need to relieve myself." 0

Upon hearing this, Lin Da couldn't help but burst into laughter. "Officer, you're quite humorous! You're different from the other officers I've met. If it weren't for our different identities, I'd prefer to have more conversations with you." 0

I waved my hand dismissively. "But come on, when you buy tobacco, do those kidnappers make you run around everywhere? Have you ever thought about what would happen if you got caught?" 0

Lin Da's eyes were fixed on my cigarette. I knew that if I didn't smoke, it would be fine, but smoking in front of Lin Da was like eating fried chicken in front of someone who hadn't eaten for three days. Lin Da's face was turning green with envy as he swallowed hard and said, "It's just that they've been stricter lately, but there are still chances to get out; it's just that the time given isn't much, and they started off pretty lenient." 0

I nodded and pulled a cigarette from the pack. As I walked toward Lin Da, I casually asked, "Oh, then shouldn't you hurry back? Do you have a car?" 0

"Not a damn thing!" Lin Da replied. 0

I stuffed the cigarette into Lin Da's mouth and lit it. He sank back like a tired white-collar worker coming home to relax on his bed, his face radiating satisfaction. In his moment of comfort, the cigarette fell from his mouth and onto the floor. 0

I bent down to pick it up. While I was at it, I glanced at Lin Da's shoes. He was wearing a pair of black cloth shoes with white spots; if you didn't look closely, you wouldn't even notice them. 0

After putting the cigarette back in his mouth, I returned to my previous position and continued asking, "Dongxing City is on the eastern side; which part are you from?" 0

Lin Da's expression changed. 0

"South?" I guessed randomly. 0

Lin Da looked at me as if I were an idiot, the cigarette bobbing in his mouth. "South? What do you mean by the north side of the eastern South? What does that even mean?" 0

"Thanks," I said, turning to leave the interrogation room. 0

"Hey!" Lin Da shouted after me. "What are you doing? Come back!" 0

As I stepped out of the interrogation room, Captain Shao and the others were watching from outside the glass. Seeing me come out so quickly, Gu Chen looked puzzled. "What did you find out? Your conversation sounded all over the place; did you uncover any clues about tobacco?" 0

I nodded quickly and said, "When I walked in earlier, I asked him about the tobacco. His answer indicated that he could only come out for a very short time, and he didn't have a car. So he might have taken a taxi, a bus, or ridden a bicycle." 0

"We can rule out the taxi," I continued. "If he's afraid of leaving evidence by driving, then taking a taxi would expose him even more. If he had ridden a bicycle, Gu Chen would have definitely noticed it, but he didn't. This means he must have taken the bus. When I went to the Tobacco Shop with Gu Chen, I noted down the bus number." 0

Gu Chen looked at me and said, "Really? I didn't notice." 0

I went on, "Well, that Tobacco Shop is an underground business located in a relatively remote area. There are no subway lines there, only Bus Routes 10, 6, 13, 27, and 32. The general direction of these routes is either south or east; only Route 13 comes from the west." 0

"That's right," Captain Shao replied. 0

I nodded and continued, "When the tobacco fell, I observed his shoes. They had faint white spots on them; although they were subtle, this indicates that he might have been near the seaside. The sea breeze carried moist seawater that stuck to his shoes, and after drying, the salt residue became visible." 0

"Additionally," I added as I walked outside, "when Captain Shao was circling around with the kidnapper earlier, he mentioned something about eating vegetables. The kidnapper seemed a bit irritated and said he had Braised Fish." As I spoke, I pointed outwards. "These points combined suggest that the kidnapper must be by the sea or at least near the coastline." 0

Gu Chen nodded and said, "Smart! But with such a long coastline in Dongxing City, where do we start looking?" 0

I continued, "That's why I asked him if it was to the south or east. At that moment, his expression changed. When I suggested south, he suddenly regained his composure and became calm again. This indicates that my option was wrong; the location should be to the east of Dongxing City." 0

"Map!" I exclaimed. 0

Guan Zengbin immediately fetched a map and spread it out on the table. I continued, "Mary, stop checking the surveillance; there's no time left. Right now, mark out the routes for Bus Routes 6, 10, 27, and 32." 0

With that, I pointed to a spot on the map where the Tobacco Shop was located. 0

Soon enough, Mary had marked all the bus routes on the map. 0

Both Route Ten and Route Thirty-Two pointed towards the eastern side of Dongxing City, but neither went directly to the seaside. This meant that Lin Da must have transferred to a bus midway. However, this was still a vast area, and to conduct a thorough search would likely take an entire afternoon or even a night, by which time Liu Yinyan and the others would already be dead. 0

"This! Should we interrogate Lin Da again?" Gu Chen looked at the large area on the map and said, "We don't have that many personnel." 0

"It's useless," I sighed. "This method can only be used once at most. No matter what we ask now, Lin Da will definitely not speak." 0

Everyone fell silent. Captain Shao sighed and said, "Then let's search. Even if there's only a glimmer of hope, we must find this place. How much can there be near the sea? Excluding densely populated areas and bustling places, I refuse to believe we can't find it!" 0

Captain Shao's words reminded me of something. Suddenly, an idea struck me, and I quickly spoke up, "Mary, did you record the conversation with the kidnapper?" 0

"Of course," Mary replied. "That's standard procedure. What's wrong? Was there an issue with the conversation?" 0

"It's not about the conversation!" I snapped my fingers. "Dongxing City is a major metropolis, known as the city that never sleeps—it's terrifyingly bustling. But did you notice? When the kidnapper made the call, it was eerily quiet around him. This indicates that he was either in a soundproof environment or completely alone in silence!" 0

Mary nodded. "But one thing you might have missed is that without professional headphones, you probably didn't hear it clearly; there was actually a low-frequency hum mixed in." 0

"Can we isolate the kidnapper's voice and just keep the background noise?" I asked. 0

"Absolutely!" Mary grabbed her computer. "Just give me a moment." 0
