The rear guard shuttled through the complex terrain of the forest, enveloped in the interplay of leaves and sunlight. Legion commander Pluto wore a serious expression on his face as he gripped his sword, its blade emitting a faint cold light. 0

"Report, Legion commander!" panted the scout as he ran back, "There are signs of battle ahead, with one to two hundred casualties. Centurion Maximianus seems to have pursued vanguard deeper into the area." 0

"Damn Maximian!" Pluto said angrily when he heard the report. "I warned him not to act recklessly, but he always wants to show off." 0

Turning to the soldiers behind him, he said, "Gather five hundred warriors and prepare to go to the front fort. The rest of you, go support our injured brothers and then continue on to the village." 0

A General responded loudly, "Yes, Legion commander!" The soldiers immediately began to move, their morale high. 0

Before long, 500 elite Roman soldiers had assembled. Pluto stood at the front of the formation, took a deep breath, and then led them quickly towards the direction of the smoky fortress. 0

Marching forward, Pluto felt extremely restless, but he also knew that this was a moment to test his leadership and judgment. He had to take proactive action, not only to rescue vanguard, but also to ensure the safety of the entire legion. 0

"I hope you haven't acted recklessly, Maximian," he silently prayed, while quickening his pace. 0

In front, thick smoke is approaching. Pluto tightly grips his sword, sensing that a tough battle is about to come. 0

Entering the area shrouded in thick smoke, Pluto gives a simple gesture to his subordinates. Five hundred soldiers immediately split into multiple small teams, each finding advantageous tactical positions, awaiting Legion commander's next command. 0

"If vanguard is still there, we must find them as soon as possible," Pluto thought to himself. He knew that every moment of delay could make the situation worse. 0

He took a deep breath and then ordered, "Advance!" 0

Pluto tightly grasped his sword, made of a special metal, and directed the soldiers in front to cautiously advance into the forest. The soldiers of the Roman Ninth Legion were experienced warriors, but their tension and unease were particularly evident in the dense foliage and darkness. However, no one understood the weight of that tension better than Pluto. 0

His mood grew increasingly restless, and each step felt like walking on a tightrope. It was not just because of the unknown in the forest, but also because of a lesson that he could not forget. 0

He recalled the year 61, on the land of Britain, the war to suppress Boudica. At that time, he was just a regular officer, just beginning to show his leadership abilities. Their legion commander, an ambitious and impulsive man, decided to pursue the enemy after an initial victory. 0

Pluto still remembers the lingering arrogance and overconfidence. They marched through what seemed like an endless forest until suddenly, Boudica's counterattack came fiercely and unexpectedly. They fell into an ambush, arrows rained down, and the soldiers were thrown into chaos, suffering heavy losses. The unit he commanded suffered severe blows, and many excellent soldiers lay forever on that land. 0

At that moment, he understood the principle of not pursuing a desperate enemy, and deeply realized that on the battlefield, rationality and composure are more important than any weapon. 0

"Legion commander, there's movement ahead," the voice of his deputy broke his reverie. 0

Pluto tightened his grip on the hilt of the sword and nodded. "We're ready, but let's not take it lightly. We don't know what we might encounter, so reason and calmness will always be our best weapons." 0

He reminded himself inwardly that this time, he wouldn't let past mistakes repeat themselves. No matter what they might encounter in this forest, he would remember that lesson and face the upcoming unknown with the highest vigilance and most rigorous decision-making. 0

Cyrus's heart was pounding as if it were about to leap out of his chest, and the firelight cast a shadow of another world on his glistening face. He turned to see the savage attacking the Roman legion's vanguard like a pack of wolves, with a fervor unlike any enemy he had encountered before. Their eyes burned with almost manic flames, and even though they were riddled with arrows, they seemed infused with an unstoppable force. 0

Cyrus forcefully pushed back a savage who was trying to approach, and as his heart raced, he quickly sought out Centurion Maximian. In this extreme predicament, only the centurion could inspire and lead them out of this chaos. 0

However, when his gaze fell on Maximian, a wave of icy despair washed over him. Maximian was being cornered by a burly man, who wielded a massive hammer like a god of destruction descending upon the earth, relentlessly attacking Maximian, who was kneeling on the ground. 0

At that moment, Cyrus understood that if they lost the centurion, the entire vanguard would be plunged into irreparable chaos. He silently vowed not to let that happen. 0

Cyrus gritted his teeth, as if all the fear and exhaustion were being suppressed deep within him. He tightly grasped the short sword in his hand, a wild force surging from deep within his body. At that moment, he burst out of the crowd like a released beast, heading straight for the burly man. 0

"Roma!" he shouted, his voice filled with despair and determination. 0

Cyrus clenched his teeth nervously and, taking advantage of the chaos on the battlefield, he sneaked around to the back of the burly man. He launched a sudden attack, his sword slicing through the air like a venomous snake and deeply piercing the waist of the burly man. However, the burly man roared wildly like a beast and without hesitation, turned around and swung a heavy punch towards Cyrus. 0

"Boom—!" 0
