The soldiers surrounded Cyrus with great excitement. One of them raised his sword and shouted, "Bear-killer!" Soon after, another soldier joined in, exclaiming, "Ultimate warrior!"
These words quickly spread throughout the camp, with each soldier expressing great admiration for Cyrus's courage and strength. To them, someone who could defeat a raging bear and emerge victorious was undoubtedly their hero.
Pluto stood aside, observing everything with satisfaction. His gaze fell on Cyrus and he nodded slightly, as if to say, "Very good, you've done well."
In Pluto's mind, his evaluation of Cyrus was no longer just that of an excellent soldier. He saw Cyrus's calm and precise judgment, as well as the extraordinary courage he displayed in moments of crisis. More importantly, Cyrus not only earned the respect of the soldiers, but also won their hearts.
This kind of appeal is immeasurable for a legion. Pluto knows that this may be an important factor in leading Legio IX out of danger on this perilous expedition.
He is even more certain about Cyrus, thinking to himself that this young soldier will play an indispensable role in the days to come.
Legion commander Pluto walked up onto a makeshift wooden platform, his authority and confidence naturally quieting the surrounding soldiers. He stood there, surveying the area, ensuring that every soldier had their attention focused on him. He took a deep breath, then raised his arm and made a gesture.
"Listen up, soldiers!" His voice rang out loud and clear, echoing throughout the entire camp.
"We will be camping near this village for three days. These three days are an extremely important period for us. I hope you can take this time to rest well, adjust your condition, and make comprehensive preparations for the upcoming battle."
He paused for a moment, his gaze sweeping over the soldiers' faces, making sure his words were heard by everyone.
"I must emphasize," his voice became more serious, "that in these three days, I do not want to hear of any soldier committing any rude or invasive behavior towards this village or its residents. We are representatives of Rome, and we must show our civilized and disciplined side."
Then, he drew his sword from his waist, raised it in the air, allowing the sunlight to shine on the blade, reflecting a dazzling light.
"If anyone dares to violate military discipline, or behave inappropriately towards the villagers," he tightly gripped the hilt of his sword, pointing the tip of the sword towards the sky, "then this sword will be the last thing he sees. I will not hesitate to punish him severely, regardless of his identity or rank."
After saying these words, Pluto sheathed the sword back into its scabbard, then once again scanned all the soldiers, ensuring that his message had deeply resonated. Then, he slowly walked down the wooden platform, pondering the unknown challenges that lay ahead, knowing that the real trial was yet to come.
After the morning assembly concluded, Cyrus was once again summoned to the tent of Legion commander Pluto. He walked into the tent and saw Pluto standing in front of a map, contemplating military arrangements and upcoming actions.
Pluto looked up and saw Cyrus, a rare smile appearing on his solemn face. " Cyrus, you did well this morning. Your rallying cry that lifted the warriors' morale not only invigorated their spirits, but also pleased me greatly."
Cyrus suddenly felt a warm surge, "Thank you, centurion. I just did what I should do."
Pluto walked over and looked at Cyrus seriously, "Have you ever thought about using your influence and starting from the leadership level?"
Cyrus was somewhat surprised. "Are you saying..."
"Yes," Pluto interrupted him. "After yesterday's battle, we lost nearly four hundred warriors, including some officers. Currently, Legio IX is in need of reorganization and adjustment. I want to promote you to centurion and have you lead a team of warriors."
This is a huge responsibility, and also a challenge. Cyrus quietly pondered for a moment, then nodded firmly.
Pluto looked at Cyrus's determined gaze, feeling a sense of relief in his heart. He stood up, walked over to Cyrus, and patted him on the shoulder.
"Very well, Cyrus. I will explain this personnel transfer to the deputy later. But before that, you need to gather your team first."
"Yes, Legion commander Pluto," Cyrus responded immediately.
Pluto smiled slightly, "You are now a centurion, Cyrus. Go to the assembly area and gather your troops, or else good soldiers will be taken by other centurions."
Cyrus felt immensely honored, while also realizing that this would be the first step in becoming an important supporter of Pluto. He knew deeply that this decision would not only change the trajectory of his life, but also potentially affect the future fate of Legio IX.
"Thank you, Legion commander, I will definitely do my best to live up to your expectations."
"I believe you will, Cyrus," Pluto smiled again, then turned back to his map to continue planning the next move. Meanwhile, Cyrus walked out of the tent with a hopeful and expectant heart.
Once out of the tent, Cyrus quickened his pace and ran towards the assembly area. He knew clearly in his heart that this was a crucial turning point in his life, as well as an opportunity to prove himself. However, more importantly, he understood that this decision would not only affect himself, but also the entire legion and the importance to Pluto.
At this moment, he was no longer just a soldier; he had become a centurion, a new leader.
